JJ very difficult times for you and Mrs JJ. That overwhelming feeling of helplessness in the face of such inevitability is very heard to bear. Remaining injured is not an option as the back is interfering with normal life
Columba 8 miles - you done well despite the keen wind!!
We had a hard frost overnight and early morning was dry, bright and very cold. Just about to go out for a run and could not find my normal running shoes in the utility room. Looked around and my gaze alighted on the Adidas Adizeros - should I risk them with all the excess weight?? Stuck them on and went out into the cold. 3.1 miles done in 23:58. No HR as Garmin immediately lost connection and it only returned in the last 1/4 mile.
1m 7:53 2m 8:01 3m 7:42 .1m 0:22

Then a session of my "spiritual" exercises trying to activate and work local muscles which I cannot even feel or locate and some bigger ones which I certainly could!!!
TS - spiritual exercises most appropriate as it's Lent.
Aws - I couldn't do that. Running makes me hungry.
TS / JJ - in the last couple of hundred years we've become so good at controlling Life in so many ways that complete helplessness in the face of the inevitable is quite alien to us.
JJ My thoughts are with you and your family, it is such an emotional time for you all.
Columba Thank you for the proper explanation of the use of weed suppressant. Well done on your blustery 8 miles ran the other day.
TS Woohoo I was correct in my assumptions that you could run a 5k in 24 mins or less at this moment in time. I knew you could. I have read your post above a couple of times, the 1st time I read it I wanted a translation but the 2nd time around the only bit that has foxed me is this
"Direction related restriction and compensation to maintain function is identified and related to pathology. The local stability muscles demonstrate evidence of failure of adequate segmental control in terms of allowing excessive uncontrolled translation or specific loss of cross-sectional area at the site of pathology".
When you are trying to do your more spiritual recruitment of muscles would it help to have a book in front of you showing a page of the muscle you are trying to activate. Then both your conscious and unconscious can take note of what you are trying to do. Just a thought. I know when an area in my body is being massaged and is refusing to let go, if I concentrate on that particular muscle, it's shape and origin and insertion it does eventually help the muscle to let go.
Tracey I think when I have had a dramatic weight loss I found it took about 4/6 weeks for it to show in my running, it did make me faster.
Impey Great to see the 10's shinning through.
I went to the RS yesterday and had to abort my session 2/3rds of the way through the session. I thought that might happen. Last week I hurt my R foot somehow, possible by my laces being too tight. I have run mostly ok since, except on Sunday when my foot hurt more. I wore some boots the previous day to walk a couple of miles or so and these most certainly aggravated whatever is going on. The best bit was that Mike the Physio was able to take a look at my foot. He examined my foot and said he was not overly concerned and that I was to put my foot into a bucket of water and ice-cubes several times over the next 24 hours. On Friday I am due at the RS again to take part in the filming of a promotional video for the School and he said he would take another look at it then and do some cross friction work on the tendons on the top of my foot which he thinks have been irritated by my foot wear.
I did the icing a couple of times last night, oh, it is quite a painful experience! This morning I think the discomfort/pain is more isolated.
I have been enjoying the swimming each evening on BBC1's Red button. Like TS says we seem to have some great talent in the ladies team. However, the rest of the world needs to do their trials too before we get too excited. Best of all was seeing Becky A qualify for the Olympic team in such a cracking time and to see her relief and excitement at qualifying.
tired out g'son by extensive letter identification via jigsaw so he is having a nap. G'daughter is also asleep after her exertions following mastering crawling so a little me time.
Columba you are quite correct - a lifetime identifying and resolving problems and controlling matters leaves one spectacularly unprepared for matters when no amount of effort can affect outcomes
aws No translation service available I'm afraid - and that is just the summary of the paper!! 14 and 18 seem to feature very prominently in your run!!
Ceal ouch to the foot ( and the ice!!) - that's what you get for being a Miss know it all !!
Jules showed me the muscles to be targeted in her Grey's Anatomy and I have that mental picture to focus on - getting there after a couple of attempts. I will send you the whole paper so that you can concentrate on it whilst your foot is in cold water - I have been using a cold towel around my forehead when reading it!!
Typical mad March day here today - black sky, driving rain and roaring wind. The first bits of blossom on the cherry trees look like pink stars against the blackness of the sky beyond, but it must be spring. Our pond was heaving with frogs on Monday but the hard frost yesterday froze it over and I think it has cooled their ardour a bit!!
The weather here is shifted from -17 to +12c in 24 hrs. It doesn't do the road surface a lot of good or house foundations.
ceal, Painful when your feet start complaining but the ice bath does seem to work well. good luck with it and the video, a movie star no less. I am sure it will impress the grandchildren.
I did 7 hill sprints today, it was going to be 8 but I lost count. The hill is about 100m and very steep but I managed a 4:30 per km pace. I don't think I was trying hard enough as it felt fairly easy.
A very quiet day on here yesterday. But of course JJ is otherwise occupied at the moment.
Mick6 Your pace up the 100 m hill is a good one, you say you don't think you were trying very hard!! I think you have just discovered how strong you are. . What a change in temp for you, bizarre.
TS I hope you are having a day similar to ours today, the sky is clear, there was a frost last night and it looks like the sun may make an appearance very soon. We had a day similar to yours yesterday, all I can remember about it is rain, rain and more rain. It was dark, dreary and dirty looking outside all day yesterday.
I suffered frequent dips in the ice bucket with my foot yesterday. I felt like I was about to suffer with frost bite by the end of the day. I think it feels a lot better today. I am having my car serviced later and will run back from the garage, 4 miles with a mile climb at the end of the run and see how it feels.
I have taken the car and ran home. Horror of horrors there was a section of the A264 that didn't have any pavement. It is quite a busy road but luckily the peak time for traffic had passed and I ran as fast as I could on that section but I was very pleased to reach the safely of the continuation of the pavement. The non pavment bit was around 5 mins running.
I ran 3.11 undulating miles in 26.46 mins, av pace 8.37 mmilling, HR didn't register until about the 3rd mile when my body warmed up enough to get a signal. I didn't feel like lifting my top to spit on the HR contacts in front of the passing traffic! I walked for one minute then ran the rest of the way home up a fairly steep hill.

1.33 miles av pace 9.21 mm, av HR 133, MHR 144 (hill)
My foot felt just fine whilst I was running although I was aware of the laces on the top of my foot. When I took my shoes off and walked in the kitchen I did experience the sharp pain again, just briefly, so I have iced the foot again, this time whilst sitting in the sunshine.
Aws - there were a couple of 10s in there; you must be pleased (I know I would be).
Ceal - foot in ice not much fun at all. Not surprised you're groaning. Hope it's better soon.
Your advice to TS about visualising the relevant muscle reminded me about the yoga classes I used to go to, where we were told to do things like "breathe into your back". All we could do was breathe, and think about our backs.
Mick6 - -17 to +12 in 24 hours? Is that some kind of a record? You must have been rushing round the house turning down the heating.
Ran before breakfast today, on the strength of a cup of tea and a banana. 2 miles warm-up, then 20 x 30sec hill reps. Took a sports-type drink with me and wedged it in a bush at the bottom of the hill I was running up. Took off jacket and gloves after 10th rep, left them in the same bush. There was a keen cold wind, but the bit where I was actually running the reps was fairly sheltered, being at the bottom of a dip.
ceal, It is easy for me to forget how busy and narrow the roads are in the UK but I am sure I could have found a safer way to do a pickup. If you foot doesn't bother you while you are running I suspect that it will clear quickly. I wonder if the undulating hills have anything to do with your injury.
Columba, 20 hill sprints!!! wow I thought I was doing okay with 7. I don't think it was a record as this is quite common but the 12c on March 7th is.

Danny and Carol are a lovely couple and Kierrah spent a lot of time in their house with her friend Bethany who live next door to them. She told Kierrah that she had lost our number.
