Sooooo I am a lurker on the forum, and just signed up for an IM 2013 mentor....now just have to decide which race to enter....what are you wise old owls' thoughts on Lanza as a first IM??
I would say that Lanza is doable as a first Ironman, though depends on where you are now and how you adapt to training, how committed you are, whether youve got manageable outside distractions (support from family/loved ones, work etc) which could distract you from training.
Lanza is one of the harder Ironman courses and can be very hard if conditions conspire against you. i.e. some years it can be very windy. That said you cant control the conditions at any event.
Lanza is a sea swim and a bike course that could take you maybe 30 mins longer than easier courses. Clearly it will present more of a challenge than some 'easier' ironman courses but then its got a 17 hour cut off. As a newby id rather be shooting for 17 hours at Lanza than the 15 hour cut-off at IM Germany.
What have you been up to at recent events, what are you used to training wise?
Id say maybe a month, im not sure how many places have gone, last time I saw it was something like 1050? I think Lanza has a limit of 1500? so maybe 2, 3 months left but for a guaranteed place id not wait far into August.
ive not parted with any cash yet... i need to leave the credit card out and the website open some evening when im out for a few pints. 1242 registered so far......
I hope so, but it really depends on cash flow and whether i'm doing the remedial massage course....it takes up a lot of weekends, none of which we're supposed to miss, but I may have to miss one, so will pick which weekend depending on VLM or enduroman (will be crewing if required) clashes. If free i'd love to go though You thinking of supporting too?

Rubberduck also called Meldy "wise"......definitely lost the plot...
he's a perfect candidate for Lanza then if he's a little mad!!
And what are you doing lurking in here Mr Cat? Tempted????

Opps - sorry Yellow...and I was just going on what M..eldy said and she knows everything apparently, being a witch and all .
And the camera was being held at an angle when that photo was taken...its perfectly flat really - honest!

If Meldy's a witch can we not employ her to sort the wind-situation.....
