It seems we are having a collective hot weather nightmare.

Went out to do 25.5k but cut it short at just over 22.

Part of the problem was feeding/fuelling in the heat. I had two water bottles on my belt - one with water and the other with a gel mix. Mrs O even had a water bottle on her bike. I was aware that it was hot but didn't want to take on too much liquid in case I sloshed. As a result, I didn't take on enough - go figure.

    Still, it's a learning experience.

11 slow miles today. BRF was hurting badly so we took it very easy.  Need to get her some help

Still floating on cloud nine after the tennis. But also aching all over after a 1k sea swim, 20k cycle and 10k run. Did the run in 49 minutes, so happy with that as it was hot, hot, hot. Beer o'clock in 5 minutes.

All recovered nicely.  Urine colour returning to normal.  Legs feel pretty good now.

it was so FLicking hot out today. Glad i stayed in all arvo and watched the SUPERB tennis!

Well done everyone who braved the sun the last few days and ran in the heat. Treat yourselves to a choccy cupcake.

So Holy fudge seems like i'm doing Valencia - just took a look fancied it and now i'm goin on another adventure! Better brush up on my pigeon Spanish - it's not too bad, I have a Valencian work colleague - she'll be pleased i'm going out there! It's 7 weeks after Berlin so am not planning anything spectacular - won't have a time goal, just want to enjoy it - the atmosphere looks good.

Orbutt - for a lon time she has had hip pain when running - perhaps hamstring? It burns badly, and recently seems worse.  First time I've ever known her to cut a run short.  She used the OROD when she got home and said that hurt like hell - so perhaps she's onto it.   Worst part of it is that it discourages her.

  • Options

Dannir - has she had her gait checked out? It might be imbalances in the way she runs that are causing her hip problems.

Ooooooftwell Cardiff training kicked off today.  When I say "kicked off" it wasn't so much a kick as a half arsed dribble really.  I was out at 7 am and the plan said tempo run.  I was at least 20 seconds/km off my pace for the tempo bit and there was seemingly not a damn thing I could do about it.  Not an auspicious start...image

Repeat of this on Wednesday - I'll be out earlier for that one.

1st session of Dublin training done. Only 4 miles. Takes a couple of weeks to get to the proper stuff. But enjoy the easy sessions whilst they last.

    bit warm though!

RR - barber for me Friday! Need to shed some weight for ITLR...

I just had the strangest training evening ever!! Started off to run to running club- I always take the long way which is 10k- but a couple of miles in I can feel stomach issues brewing so take the short cut back home - total 5k, then looking at time I think I can't run to club so decide to take my bike, only to realise a few hundred yards from home that the tyres are soft( I knew there was something not right from the outset, just took me a wee minute to realise what probably due to my rush to get going!) anyway head back home sort tyres then 5k cylce to club followed by 8k run then 5k cycle  home! Holy Moly!!!

And I am entering the dark side at 12.45 on Sunday......open water and wet suit.........image

Ooft it's hot. Just ran what I thought was 6 miles only to finish red faced and sweaty and realise it was only 4. This does not bode well.... Has anyone invented some kind of device that will shower cold water on your head as you run? If not then someone definitely should.

kaz literally anyone else would've given in and had a nice sit down instead!

Yesterday on the Heath HS I was running and thinking to myself it's so friggin hot (apologies for the image I'm about to create) that I would just love to stop, strip doon to my bare naked pale body and get hosed down with icy cold water. There was not a part of me that wasn't boiling. How do people train like that ffs?

I really don't know. I suppose you'd acclimatise eventually if the sun stayed around long enough. But it's true man (and Scottish man especially) was surely designed to lie around eating ice poles in the shade above 22 degrees, not to run about!
