Too late to get one of the 'Toll' gizmos though Dave so you'll be woken every time you go through a motorway toll to either collect a ticket or pay!
They are brilliant if you travel in France regularly! Like travelling first class! No queues and straight through the tolls.
Only problem for me is that I have my youngest lad (No.2!) flying SleazyJet Friday afternoon! I may not have a sherpa and I'll have a two bed apartment for only one occupant!
It's a shame this didn't happen last week as a couple of friends travelled from Paris to Montelimar €12.00 on the train because the train conductors were on strike! Drivers were still 'driving' the train, only no one was collecting the fares!! Only in France!
If there is a problem with transport from the airport to town let me know. I have a large people carrier and free parking with the apartment I've rented. English mobile (+44)07812099889, French +33780420612
There's a car park right next to the ibis and you can get a daily or weekly pass. Google for it.
Refund policy on ibis will depend on how you booked. Some rooms rates are fully refundable but more expensive. If you booked the cheapest rate at the time then it was probably non refundable. You'd need to check your own booking.
Does anyone know the exact situation re bikes on French trains, Eurostar and TGV.
Depending on this, my plan B option looks like the Eurostar from St Pancras, Ebbsfleet or Ashford and TGV to Nice. About 10 hours and £200ish.
Really don't fancy the drive, its not so much the getting there but coming back, especially when theres a perfectly good return flight booked that wont be affected by the strike?
If it does go balls up i have a contigency plan claim back what i can on insurance cancellations and entries are still open for Challenge Almere in September
If your flight is cancelled, you dont have a return flight. If you dont use the outward portion, the return doesnt exist. So you need a plan B for both journeys.
We both leave work at 5pm Wednesday. Something like the midnight ferry from Dover, Nice by late afternoon Thursday.
Left the OH sorting Europ Assist for the car and trying not to think about how we get back for work next Weds
Fire up the Quattro (scrub that, When I had the Quattro at 20 mpg, I couldn't even consider this sort of stupidity at least with the diseasal I get 49 mpg)
Leaving Monday, Means I miss the chance to get pi$$ed with you gang (well who ever is there)
Suzie is looking at leaving Nice late Monday, so she can sleep Monday afternoon, and drive through the night, With the hope I will be sober by the time I'm needed to take over !
It's tricky cos she has a clinic on weds morning, so can't really turn up late !
I emailed Easyjet about an hour ago and the auto response said they'd get back to me in 5-7 days .... however, I've just had a reply, impressed!!

Thank you for contacting us for this matter.
Usually, when we have to cancel our flight for reasons beyond our reasonable control, we inform our passengers at the earliest. The French air traffic controllers strike was recently confirmed to be for 6 days and most probably your flights will be cancelled. Unless the strike is called off I do not see any reasons to hope for your flight to departas scheduled.
Having checked your booking reference EM8L5VN, I confirm that now there have been no updates on your booking. However, you will be receiving system generated e-mails and 'Text-SMS' within the next 2 to 3 hours.
We work hard to make sure that all our customers have a smooth and pleasant journey, whatever their needs. Sometimes situation are beyond our reasonable control and it is always our last decision to cancel our flights. "
We're due to fly Friday morning so we can get away with a near 24 hour delay or if we get cancelled a drive to Dover for Friday afternoon and then a drive through the night in time to register, rack and go to bed!
As there's no World Cup games on Friday I'm hoping they'll go back to work for the day, although our plane will probably be stranded somewhere in deepest darkest Europe anyway
Latest news is that one of the unions has called off the strike, hey are now saying only about 20% of flights to France will be expected BUT its mostly south of Fance that is affected, or at least thats what I make of this article
I checked the SNCF website for Bikes... if they are in a bike box/bag they count as your "hand baggage" and can be taken on the train with you... there is limited baggage racks at the entrance to the carriages...

I am planning to park at the airport if I have to drive, bus 98 or 99 gets you back to the city centre I think.

Let me guess, when the strikes on, that £200 fare will be £500 when I need to book it.
At least there are other options, its not like Nice is a million miles away.

Aren't there issues with rail strikes too??
I have heard hotel receptionists and Ironman marshalls are striking too
I hadn't considered that the return flight wouldn't be cancelled, therefore no refund

OK, It's 1075 miles from Chester to Nice.

See you in Nice
Well, it looks like I won't be racing
Can't find passport, can't get a new one or a temp one.
if I cancel today I can use my flights for my trip to HO and cancel the hotel at no cost.
The alternative is to hang on and see if they turn up at a cost of around £250 in alternative travel for this week.
That's really crap Avalaf
Dave - if you come back. Monday you'll be ok for work Weds. Leaving Tues will get you back but tired!
rubbish Avalaf....

Rail strike appears to be pretty much over too

No news from BA yet, strange Easyjet seem to be taking advanced and punitive steps to cancel when the situation seems very fluid.
I think as Barley says, the trackers and updates won't come out until late today. The easyjet tracer hasn't hanged at all since 8am.
I'll look again properly after 14:00
if we get there, we get there.
At least if we don't get there we'll find it easier to sort entry to Austria from the comfort of our own home/office
Thats true.
Definitely driving to Austria.
