yep, that's a fair point.  No danger of traffic on that damn wall ( image )..... It wasn't helping him much anyway, he was lurching along at about 2 mph in some pain!  I only noticed the iPod because I tried to give him some encouragement!

I never ever race with music as I like to take in the company and atmosphere..........that said next weekend i'll be running the full 13 miles on my own no doubt well behind the field.................but I still wouldn't have music as I will be taking in the sceneryimage

well said KK..... I really don't think that a bunch of on-line super sleuths is going to beat the resources of the local Plod.  Fingers crossed that they now come up with something.

Passes virtual grapes through to Squishy.... image

    Me again.

I'm  a race referee and the rules on MP3 players are clear.  They are banned for the duration of the race (including transition).  A referee would warn the person concerned and if they refused to remove it, they could be disqualified.

Mike or any of his assistant referees would have had to see the person concerned and have been able to warn them for any action to have taken place.

As far as Pacesetters are concerned, Mark lives in France and won't reply to his emails until he gets home, and Iain is probably going to take a couple of well deserved days off so don't expect a quick reply.

I hope you both recover your lost items.

cheers Fat Squirrel - I wasn't looking for devine retribution on the poor chap - he was obviously suffering and maybe this was helping to keep him upright!  I was just puzzled to see someone with an iPod on.... I also saw someone at Cowman with an iPod shuffle clipped to the back of their hat when running...... it is so rare to see triafletes using music in races that it becomes a bit obvious when someone is listening to an MP3 player.  Running races on the other hand is the complete opposite! It's hard to find anyone to talk to who isn't wired up!

That said, I think I'm right in saying that at Lanza IM you can use MP3 players...... guess you need to read the pre-race briefing notes!  Now that would be novel for me..... image

    Hi folks,
I had a good couple of days. It was pretty damp on Friday but the cast of macbeth recovered with hot chocolate and impressively huge bits of cake in the harbour cafe. We were really lucky with the weather on the day - so much better than it could have been. Friends and partners supporting were brilliant as ever. Blimmin' sore calf now after some cramp (or maybe a strain, I am not sure) on the run. It slowed me down a bit but probably only 2-4 minutes. 5:06 and 17th woman overall. Proper report later in the week but I can report that Meldy was really hot in bed on Saturday night. DrM and mellifera's audioporn will be available in an adult shop near you soon.

Tritalk support was great too. There was a great atmosphere and for me it really adds to the fun of the event.

beanz - were you on the finish line? If you were the nice lady that remembered to stop me leaving with my chip, many thanks - I had completely forgotten about it.

Paul L - nice to speak to you at the end. I remember you on the bench last year.

Tim - many thanks for the support.

Fat squirrel - glad you had a good race. I am not sure you description narrows it down any image

Squishy - Is there no limit to the lengths you will go to for a new bike? I hope you mend quickly - both from the physical damage and the shock. You were very funny on the main part of the ripple - "I'm not lovin' it" but smiling!

Crashie - nothing to add that I haven't said already but I hope you recover from the experience quickly too.

Foggy - my thanks for babysitting the gimmers! And for taking charge of the armwarmers. Sorry I didn't get to speak to you more.

PSC - lovely to meet you and the Mrs. Very well done getting a shot of *that* trisuit. it gave me and a few of those I was passing a good giggle.

Will have a look at some pics now. Thanks very much for taking them.

Morning all, Managed to get back to see a big yellow ball in the sky which I’ve since found out is called the sun, luckily that dried the tent out for use in 10 months time in Bala!

First off heal well Squishy you young thing, hope you remember saying that if it wasn’t too bad that you’d consider doing the double? And sorry for not being entirely truthful about the condition of your bike. I’ve got your buff and sunnies by the way.

Hopefully the local constabulary will find the tw@t driving the coach, certainly remember him/her passing me worryingly closely but not paying enough attention to get the company name, I’d certainly recognise it from behind though.

    Things I learned this weekend:

To pitch the tend the other way round, after all it is designed that way for when it’s windy/rainy

Caramel Freddo frogs are ok but the originals are better

I need to push the pedals harder and not be scared of being tired at the end of it all, need to HTFU I guess

My organisation in transition needs working on

The number of nice people far outnumbered the @rseholes

Mellifera wins the ‘Carry on Camping’ award for her antics in the tent on the morning of the race, quote: “higher, one more, no another one, that’s it, try all the way…”

The person who racked next to me gets horrible vibes for leaving all my bike kit scattered across the floor, @rse

The Ripple wasn’t that bad really

Tim the trauma doc was a star, thanks also to the collection of marshals, referees, police and local people who came out to Squish offering blankets, drinks, lifts etc, have we ever had a Pirate close a road before?

I want a t-shirt and will be back next year to hear the Sally Gunnell sound-a-like tell me I’m a Vitruvian, apologies to the female Pirates who were planning to do it next year too, I’m not really a jinx at half IMs but do want to finish one properly one day!

Lots of Pirates in a marquee with a few beers make for a good Saturday night out, cheers all

    great reports guys

Melli - I'm assuming you, Meldy and Anna are the witches and I was Lady McBeth?

I can report that it is perfectly possible to eat 5 freddos in one day, and the caramel ones ARE the best.

Meldy might have been hot in bed on saturday night, but even better was the sight of Dr M in minimal clothing - it's nice to be reminded that men do have muscles

I was, as always, disappointed with my time, but careful scrutiny of the results from this year and last year suggest some improvement, so I'm being positive and living in hope of continued improvement

I spoke to Squish yesterday and she sounded shaky, but ok.

maybe so deb. i can't even get DrM to show off his lats never mind murder a king so i think you might be better suited.

Just a quick post to say that Squish is feeling a little better today, in a black, blue, bruised and broken sort of way.

Anyone with any information that might identify the wuckfit who was driving the coach can contact PC 4189 Julie Lethbridge on 0116 248 5675 at Oakham Police station.

We'll be off to the fracture clinic shortly...

Morning all.  It was really great to meet you at last.   I want to give my special thanks to Waff and KK without whom I wouldn't have made it into the water.  And Meldy for keeping me company on some of my lonely long run home.  And thanks for the advice post race too image

Melli thanks as well for your on here advice about the Ripple not being that bad.  It really wasn't - though my legs nearly fell off at the top of the second lap.

Crashie and Squishy big hugs.  Only saw the aftermath but you were in my thoughts.  Glad it is only the collar bone and hope you heal quickly.

I was very pleased with my time a whole 26 minutes inside where I expected to be.   And being last across the line was fab with that sea of yellow.  I had to hold myself together not to burst into tears.

I found two Frodos in my bag last night along with handfuls of those black jack things.  I don't even like them - the black jacks, not the frodos.  Just goes to show my part Scottish-ness is alive and well grabbing any freebies with gusto.  Bottle anyone?

Pity we didn't have a cauldron.  We could have cooked up more men who look like DrM for us to oggle at.

I thought your audio porn in the morning hilarious, melli.  Although I'd like to know how much benefit you get from warming up 2 hours before the race, when you then stand around between the warm up and start?  Does it actually help?

Glad to hear that Squish is recovering.

Holly you'll be delighted to hear that my car smells rank, what with that filthy tent having been in it for 24 hours so far.

I've washed the pasta pan at last though, so the car doesn't smell of tomato sauce AND rank tent now

I went out on my bike for an hour of puddle surfing in the lanes around Stafford yesterday so my legs feel fine today

Everyone would agree that the topless cheerleaders were the best part pf the weekend, though (right Dr M?)

I seriously considered DNSing cos I knew I was nowhere near fit enough to do any sort of justice to the race, hence my pitiful performance, but I'm not bothered - I've done a half before, so its all good. It was a fun weekend (apart from the almost drowning bit!).

Thats funny Holly. What I really want to know though, is whether DrM remember to take the black jacks out of of his pocket before washing his top.

Well done everyone, especially Rio, AJH and Gyraffe!

Now call me pedentic, picky even, but coach companies should be able to tell the police which of their drivers were due to be in the area at the time...

more ((((Squishy))) hugs from me. Loving the reports above.... keep them coming!

I've bashed out a few words by way of a report on Athlinks - link here

What on earth are Frodos.... I feel as if my education must have been lacking!  Top tip - don't eat tracker bars on the bike when racing!  Grave danger of death as millions of bits of peanuts in your mouth when breathless = potential high risk of choking!

    LOL!  Don't they melt?

    ((((((((((((((((((((squishy's bike and squishy))))))))))))))))))))

Good to hear it's not as bad as it could have been from the parts of the body being mentioned at the time.

Indeed I was hanging around, once you were in the first ambulance I started collecting bits of clothes and bike having asked a couple of pirates to see if Holly or someone with a car could come out to get your stuff, sat in the bus stop to get out of the dizzle and watched a couple of police cars go by and when they stopped by your ambulance thought I'd better go back and investigate although no one actually told me anything. When the helicopter appeared I asked them again at which point they told me about possible spinal concerns which was when you saw me again, unfortunately health and safety rules stopped me and 2 bikes joining you for the ride, bloddy nanny state image

After another chat with the police telling what little I knew of the coach it became apparent I wasn't going to get the bike collected or make any cut-offs so asked for the broom wagon to collect me, on the plus side I got to walk out of transition with people who finished around 5 hours so looked like a proper triathlete and had a bottle of stella earlier than expected image

Heal quickly and don't try and use the arm too early (voice of experience with badly knitted together collar bone!)
