Just entered online, have not done this run for a couple of years and if i remember correctly isnt it a bit hilly in the second half?gonna do it anyway and see how i get on.
I'm meant to be doing this, the only other 10 milers I've done are Otley and Guy Fawkes so surely it can't be too much worse than those, can it? But at the moment I've got a bit of a leg niggle so I might give it a miss if it doesn't improve anyway.
Ye, this one's a bit of a beast but the hills are manageable if you don't set off too fast - shorten your stride and keep a steady effort rather than powering in and blowing up. Not done Otley but I'd say this one's slightly trickier than the GF.
Take A6 out of Preston towards Garstang - there's a right turn by a petrol station signposted Calder Vale - it gets very rural very quickly and I'd leave extra time for travelling as both M6 and A6 get busy with daytripping traffic.
If I do it, I'll tip up on the day. I've even used the course as a training run
Yes, indeedy, SM - and we can have a chat instead of me skulking around the village hall environs at "Through the Villages" last year when I thought that I'd seen you
I still look the same (will be wearing the flag in one form or another)
It all depends how I feel on the day..........much like yourself.
Have let the training slip this week due to one thing or another , mainly getting sick of running in the rain and wind..........and it`s Ackworth Half on Sunday .......am I ready for it?
Time for a bit of self psychosis
"IT IS A GOOD DAY TO DIE"...............Chief Crazy Horse (Battle of the Little Big Horn)
YP1 .......I just spotted that bit about home made cakes......Sorry I should have known a female wouldn`t have made a mistake about such an important matter.
I have decided to put myself through this gruelling ordeal once again (a bit like self flagellation it will cleanse the soul)..........and what better day to do it on?
YP1 .....I will ask you at the end if you think I was right.
But as far as I can remember in the latter stages there is a very long hill and then towards the end just to add insult to injury, a pub where you are cheered on by some happy drinkers just before you have another hill.....not as long but steeper.
I will be muttering "remember the lager, lager ,laaaaaaaaaaagah!" ...........unless it`s snowing.
Lesley: more accurate directions, coming from Preston (M6 J31A is my Sunday morning approach but if half of the UK is going o Blackpool, you may want to go through Preston itself.
Comments
got my number thru this morning 419
where exactly is the race - dont suppose anybody knows the satnav postcode?
SS glad you got your number on this one mate.
I did this last year , and maybe it was me , but I still think it is one of the toughest ones I`ve done.
Just contemplating putting myself through the agony once more.
Last year I was 18th..!!!!!!!!!!!!..............................from last ...it was scary.
If I see you at Ackworth next week maybe you can persuade me.
maybe I will.......if SM is ever gonna be last this could be the one.
It is all road and it is a real toughy........not for whimps. (hence the hesitation)
is it as tough as the guy fawkes 10 i ripley?
Are there any directions - where race starts, parking etc.,
If its all road then it will be easier then cross country
"If its all road then it will be easier then cross country"
"can't be too much worse than those, can it? "
Famous last words.
Those home made cakes I see mentioned above had better be worth it!
That's not the only reason I signed up, honest
What home made cakes?
It`s not that easy to find Lesley (wasn`t for me anyway)so give yourself plenty of time but parking was in a field last time no problem.
See "RW says" in the event info at the top of the page.
If I find out they've been lying to me...
I will bring a cake for you Y what kind do you like ?
It might get a bit soggy in my hip pocket though
What am I talkin` about I ain`t decided if I`m doin` it yet!

Don't say gruelling ordeal, I'm still recovering from Spen 20 yesterday.
If you pass someone muttering "remember the cakes, remember the cakes" on the way up the hills it will probably be me
