Discovered yesterday a colleague is originally from the area....of course ze interrogatory followed... the area is rolling hills and there's no mountains or super high hills.
IW: So far there's only the dates for the inscription.... haven't seen anywhere about which day it is either....
Before you all get very excited i have just looked at some very serious praticalities....
How do you get there with a bike!!!
There are 2 airport Nürnberg and Münich
Nürnberg - the only direct flight from the UK that i can find on the aiport website is from Stanstead with Air Berlin and it is not even a daily service. The airport to Roth is then a 40 - 15 min train ride with one change.
Münich - Lots of flights but then you have a 2 - 3 hour train ride to Roth with at least 2 changes. The quickest train journey is in the german ICE (High speed train) which requires your seat to be reserved. - Baggage space is very limited on some of these trains. - or you hire a car and drive the 130km - not difficult but expensive if you have to get bikes in - you need a big car... and then i dont know what parking is like at Roth.
And IW have they cleaned out that canal... I had a friend who got his hand very badly cut there a couple of years ago, because of the rubbish in it.
As I said before - there's no rubbish in the canal, your friend probably did what I did one year, swam too near the bank and cut his hand on the rocks just like I did. They've been racing in that canal for 21 years.
yes IW i can drive... but i dont want to... and i certainly do not welcome the thought of the drive home afterward!!! I have just looked up.... it is over 600 km for me NO WAY!!!!
My post was aimed to the people, a not in cosideratble number of the band, that do not have easy access to Stanstead, and that do not wish to drive.
it look from what you have said that driving might be the only sensible option, thank you for confirming my point of view and my decission to give this one a miss
Is one of those things. If you want to do the race you get there. If you think it is too much hassle then you go elsewhere.
I want to do Roth. I will get there, and somehow or another find somewhere to stay. Although I may have to get Meldy to come along and guide me! Roth has a huge status as a long course race, and I want to experience it.
Others may well prefer easier options. Theres no right or wrongs here, its where your racing priorities lay. If people want to go to IMDE or TLD if its on or France or wherever then so be it. I am going to Roth and as I said in the original post if people want to do the race there will be a couple of pirates going.
That being said desperately trying to get into IMDE before it closes after 1/2 hour probably wont be that easy either.
I´m with u on that ISB I´m not driving the 740km to Roth with my 3 wee monkeys and the memsahib bending my ear for 7ish hours.
Roth will have to go without my pennies I think. It´ll fill quick, they dont need my cash but probably i´ll miss the big Pie right outing again in 2010.
Maybe I could guest appear at Bala, uuuuuhhmmmmmm, not been since 06
Confirm the date is 18 July 2010 - from the Roth website
Think I'm going to opt for Roth over DE but TLD would be first preference if there's positive news that it's likely to happen before Roth entries open.
Yep, already thought of that. I'm going to email and ask how they plan to implement it - sure they don't want people to pay full amount and then have to reimburse us all.
AirBerlin fly 6 days per week from Stansted, and as Saturday is the only day they don't fly into NUE, it's also the least likely travelling day to prep for the Sunday race. Current fares are 90 euros return, plus 50 euros for bike transfer.
Lufthansa fly Manchester, Birmingham, Heathrow with a change at Frankfurt or Munich, for an additionaly £45. (Lufthansa charge 70 Euro for bike carriage)
So, not too dissimilar to the travel issues associated with trying to get to Klagenfurt (not reknowned for it's easy direct flight accessibility) for IM Austria.
Nothing over dramatic just some cold light of day.
And perhaps people need to think about logistics as they get caught up in the excitement.
A lot of people pulled out of IM CH this year, when the logistic started mounting up and the costs as the pound sunk... The entry fee is not even half the cost of going to these events, even at 415 € Especially when you have to add flights.. and then train fares or hire a car, and then hotels etc Or a 800 mile round trip for me... and Iive next door in Switzerland.
I agree with you it is do able... but i just wanted to point out to people some of the small print.

I emailed Roth this morning and asked about the date. They replied to say they had forgotten to put it on the site and now had done so.
This could me a sign for me to ...

sorry to say but its about finances and getting there
