estimating VO2 from someone's times seems to be so full of scientific holes that there is no way they can deduce anything - it's media speculation as usual.
Contador is right to keep his mouth shut - as would anyone else if asked - and all the necessary drug tests will have been carried out already so only time will tell if any rider has been doping.
Interesting that Team RS mentions triathlons- I was at the Tri show at Sandown Park this year and sat in on a session run by Jo Friel, he ran through a 'who here is doing xxx this year', he then threw the question out as to how many of the audience expected Lance to do an IM at some point- most of us thought yes.
Any predictions for today? Might be an opportunity for Cadel (or Menchov or Sastre?) to try to salvage something from the tour.
I'd feel happier about the Schlecks if they hadnt handed over 7000k Euros to a doping doctor, er, just for training plans. And they didnt get the plans in the end...
haha, like Walsh said in an interview on competitor radio, "these guys aren't handing over thousands of pounds and a portion of hteir winnings for information on intervals".
if lance is riding the tour next year i can't imagine he'd do an ironman. would be nice if he did though. perhaps he could do it for a laugh?
I reckon LA will give the tour one last bash next year. I think that he believes he can still win it. If he fails next year though - he could prob race Kona that year ?
i wonder if he could do it this year? plenty of time to recover if he does get injured. i don't know what sort of profile kona has in the US though. i expect the sponsor will want to flog him to death with as many events as possible. so perhaps he'll be doing super sprints every other day.
"But do you really think that I would be so silly to take CERA not a long time after Riccò, Sella, Rebellin were caught, plus at a race like Giro d'Italia? I'm astonished now, so much that I can't even tell you how I feel. It is very important to me that B tests are carried out in different laboratories, because I was told they use strange methods in Paris. etc etc"
So planning on running the Landis "flawed testing" defence then
"It is very important to me that B tests are carried out in different laboratories, because I was told they use strange methods in Paris"
strange methods eh??? all the labs are validated for their methods and for CERA it's a test developed with Roche the manufacturer (who are a very big supplier of lab technologies to hospitals and research labs so know a thing or two about testing).
They have just been saying on the TV that Hincapie thinks he has bust his collar bone in the crash a couple of days back, But hasn't been to the Doctor incase he has.. And the Doc pulls him out of the race... Hard man or what ..
Wasn't there an American who rode the tour with a broken collar bone a few years back (name escapes me for the moment)? The bit of the follow up story which stuck in my mind was the number of teeth he needed capping after the event as he had been grinding his teeth to manage the pain. Hard to imagine what drives people in situations like this.
yeah, what a shame. hope that doesn't come back to haunt him. then again perhaps the commisars will spring into action again this evening. last time he got the gap revoked.
got caught out by the news on the radio again. so knew he'd won before i got home to watch the coverage again. top win. he certainly looked the most fullfilled after that one. seemed to make up with thor too afterwards in the itv coverage.
Yeah, you can always tell the forbidden lovers they pretend to hate each other in public but sometimes they let slip their true feelings. I bet Cav is really his bitch in private.
"oh Thor my thundergod, show me your lightning bolt..."
Fantastic win by Cav today on a stage that you wouldnt have picked him for. How emotional was he at the end ? He may be cocky, but when he wins its a genuine team effort and he never fails to thank them.
Nice bunnyhopping by Freire too over the roundabout.
As to the 4 seconds - is Lance that crafty or just very jammy ?
i bet he'll let everyone know it's down to his wealth of experience tomorrow in the pre-stage interviews. he'll have a good point too. that must be nearly a minute in total he's gained on wiggo just by being in the right place (first that echlon split thingy, then today's stage).
still, i imagine the time gaps will eb bigger on ventoux with one or other of lance/wiggo landing a massive punch. i can't wait.
fires near the bottom of ventoux apparently. nightmare winds on top too.
did you see that guy from the BBC sports coverage show his bit about him going up ventoux? it was some of the funniest cycling footage i've seen in a while. one rider stationary but clipped in with one foot. the front wheel turned sideways, bike went off and rider hit the deck! also the bbc guy got knocked over by an unapologetic walker. bit of footage of a couple of riders getting blown off towards the top too (you pay extra for that).

Yeah right.
Menchov will only fall off again today, and Cadel hasn't got his head together.
Vockler ? or Chavanel

Super finish again. Unfortunately I'm going to miss Ventoux live tomorrow - grrrr....... have to catch it on the highlights later in the evening.
