Hi ITB .. Didn't realise that was you fella .. Replayed it a few times to try and get the number but was on iPhone and had no chance. I dreaded that hill but the narbeth support were very pirate friendly .
Second lap through Narberth and the sound system was banging out "The Final Countdown", and there can be few better climbing tunes than that ! Nice name change by the way, Slag. I can't imagine you launching a career in TV on the back of that little vignette, but at least you were on there!
Good effort ITB and tough luck that it wasn't your day. Like you say in the report... hopefully there'll be another time.
Its not me in the clip but just used it to show some of the hills and support on the cycle course. I had my waterproof jacket on at that point so you could not see my pirate kit.
That said im on a diet, I weighed in at 16 stone 11 last week and thats my heaviest for a long long time. 18 months ago I was 14 stone 5, need to get back down for next year.
Fat Buddha - Just wanted to say thanks for the advice to get out into the Chilterns. I ended up following the Chilterns sportive (http://www.chiltern-hundred.org.uk/) routes a couple of times, and after those hills, Wales didn't seem so bad!
You guys might have reached saturation point with the race reports, but I thought I'd throw mine into the mix. It's stupidly long (sorry) and written for people that don't know about Ironman more than anything else...
STIL - on god's own earth, how the hell do you mistake CD for Barlist?? they're like the Little and Large of the pirates......although neither has curly hair or bottle end specs but you get my drift....

Serious congratulations to everyone who did this. It looks absolutely horrendous. I would never be brave enough.

Good link which I have added to my race report.
Finally done my race report (until I DNF'd).
My race report does not include my post race recovery of a large portion of chips and drink the hotel bar dry of black dragon cider.

Great report ITB, sorry you didnt make it this year, from your conclusions it seems youve learnt a lot and will no doubt put this into effect.
Its a nice "easy" Ironman next in Lanazorte

So the mystery of the pointy hatted pirate remains .. Having now seen it on a larger screen i think my moneys on it being Barley .

It is definitely Barley, isn't it? You can tell from the big grin!
Must have achieved warp speed going downhill in that pointy hat, Carl.
Yes thats deffo me, my god though, my stomach's enormous!
Youre so kind.

I thought it was me, but my armwarmers were red and Barley had yellow ones on.

Cracked me up, Dave. I mistook you for Barley and vice versa on numerous occasions.
