Tour of Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo today.... did the whole thing in the big ring... which proved entertaining... was riding with two friends who are new to cycling and doing their first event and first ride of any distance, so was quite slow in average speed... but because of only using the big ring, I was screaming past people up every hill.... must have looked utterly stupid flying up the hills and then riding very slowly at the top of each one waiting for people to catch me back up, while everyone overtook me again!
Mission accomplished though.... several hours of building that leg strength!
lets be honest.... its all prep for an Ironman on my 100th birthday
So today I had a gym sesh, and I totally died on my arse! Felt so wiped but survived it. Turns out I'm anaemic, and doc has given me iron tablets (which I picked up on way to gym!) so at least I know why it felt hard. Not sure why I'm anaemic but still. So hoping tablets will help sooner rather than later.
This week I'm hotelling it on Thursday night so will take swimmers. Calf also currently buggered so stretching this week and will use spin bike in lieu of running until it's eased up. Currently feel as unfit as it gets, but the upside is I'll make improvements quickly
Yeah, hopefully it'll sort things out. I got a print out of my blood test results.....interesting googling it all!!! Just need to sort this calf out. Wondering if it has a small tear? God only knows!!
So - it's official I have signed up for Lanza 2017. Third time of entering and this time I will make it to the start line. I have circa 5 stone to lose, weigh in scheduled for Thursday and then on it with a vengence.

I lost about that last year and the thing is don't hit it hard, make small changes that add up to something massive.

Wine and cake Simo, often at the same time I'm not sure what to take out first though
Happychap - a lot were due to cuts to feet (and hands) at the swim start and finish as it was very shallow and god knows what was down there. Some people said rocks, shells or even glass and cans. When I could touch the bottom with my hands, I decided to breaststoke which was probably the wisest decision of the day. Some people had their soles of their feet sliced open, others just had 1cm cuts. Another reason for the DNFs could be the heat, 90% humidity and on the run people were dropping like flies.
In other news - I've been weighed (slightly scary) and did some bench presses this morning. Failed at 47.5kg which was slightly disappointing but at least gives me a benchmark (no pun intended).

Woohoo lee.
Had a great weekend of healthy eating and exercise and feeling better already.

Wise advice
Good luck Happychap
Great stuff Happychap Focus focus focus! I may try to do the same

I'd defo take out wine before cake
I was about 20st when I started out - it only takes a succession of small changes to make a big difference.
Step1) don't have cake or wine for breakfast
I can't imagine you at 20st WW!!!
Many moons ago Will posted a piccie of himself in the regular FFF daily thread dressed mostly in black leather, you'd not want to spill his pint.
On that note, first step in my fecal footwear program
1. No alcohol on school nights
Further cunning plans to follow
I did Venice clipped in woo hoo! The plan now is:
1. lose weight (so I look better in the photos)
2. improve my cycling (so I'm not last on the bike leg in future)
Well done Molly! How did you get on otherwise?
Yay Molly
Lee & HC - I got a PB but it was a flat course. Over 25% DNF though. My swim was my least worst bit.
I won't though.
Behave - I'm struggling to get to racing weight as it is
Well done Molly
Blimey Molly - what were the DNF's down to?
Mmmm teacakes. I've got my 'first' weigh in tomorrow then we'll know how things really stand
Podds - thanks

Oh my goodness, that sounds awful

Happychap - your weight will come down making slight adjustments (says me!) and you'll do 47.5kg next time, we WILL improve!
When i was a youngster and did weights everything was in lbs ... I must be getting old
