AM - I've just compared the route we took today with the printed map of the course and it looks like we went pretty much the right way round. Just need to get someone to show us how to get through that park near the start / finish on the day.
The river bit of the Whaley Waltz is really overgrown this time. I hope they clear away all those weeds from the banking before the race.
Saw JS, FOAR, GBM, ISAAC, WITGB and JMC at the start
Saw JS & WITGB at the finish....
Admittedly I had to do "a runner" at the end so didn't get chance to catch up with all the performances but JS was second woman in 2.17, WITGB finished in 2.22 and I managed a 7 minute PB in 2.25.
Winning time was 1.54 - 8 minutes outside the men's course record. Incidentally the women's course record is 2.11. One to aim for eh JS?
JMC - understand you were forced to pull out? Trust you're OK?
FOAR, GBM, ISAAC - how was it for you??
TB - thanks for the support on Monks Road near the Grouse!
MH-ended up doing a bit of a marshalling job. Think it's feasible for JS to break the record, she just needs to get rid of half a tonne of make-up etc. from her bum bag.. Think JMC was in fifth place when he passed me, the local Glossop -Hayfield bus was passing about that time, he didn't hop on by any chance?
Well done MH! I was supposed to be supporting near peep o day but struggled to get up the hill from hayfield so missed the quickest ones. Jmc was ok when canal cruiser saw him in new mills apparently. Sorry jmc!
AM,NI - the striders will cut back the overgrown river edge, though the rainfall the day before is more relevant to how you deal with the last few yards.
How did the trog go? MGMT did not fancy 15 miles of trog so we did the pennine bridleway, Chee dale to south head and home. 17+ miles, says she might as well have done the trog. Her mieage estimation will need to improve I think. Knackered now.
GBM - you have clearly been to the J8 school of pacing.
Mort - not being one of the quickest I suppose I should have seen you but probably had my head down at peep o day wondering how I was going to get up to big stone
British masters (old gits) 5k road champs for me today. Finished 5th v40 in 17 dead. (16:58 by me, but finished in a small group so think i got a slightly raw deal, c'est la vie, oh well). Good course but tough due to 3 laps but doing the hill 4 times so at the start and finish. So pleased with result really. Quite motivational that the age categories are pinned to peoples backs! So taking a v35 feels good but being unable to catch a v55 is hard! Still at least o finished 2 secs ahead of the first v60! Christ almighty his wava beats AM! (unless it was him).
Felt rough this morning ( not hungover for a change) so pleased to have seen another 5 k through. Just need to nail a pb at the sizzlers and I will be happy.
Well done triggers! Awesome time JS! I won't mention that mike shaw told me that nexus ran a 9:04 3 k at stetford on Tuesday with a 2:40 first k!!!
And another 15:45 5k
Sort out the pacing NI and u could be a half decent runner.
In fact if I were you I'd be looking for a sub 2 minute 800 m vest! Once the sub 9 is in the bag.
Well done Troggers and another great race from JS especially after racing at Bramhall yesterday. Did jmc really get dq? That's got to be pretty hard to take in such a long race.
PPP - the first 1k was 2:53 which was quite reckless enough. 2:40 would have just about killed me. The rest of the race hurt. A lot. I was disappointed not to get a sub 9 but I know I can do it if I pace it properly. Well ran today btw.
good thread turnout, esp good to see WITGB and Isaac for the first time in a long while (and Canal Cruiser, although fleetingly, for an even longer while), TB & mort supporting, fantastic time from JS just unlucky that Christine Howard had come up pot-hunting from Matlock
nothing to report on my run - no falls, no nav probs, no dehydration, no bonking, no going off too fast, no fading towards the end - just text-book, clocking 2:51, which is 20 mins quicker than my course PB, so happy bunny
I was in 5th/6th place at the top of the last hill at Big Stone. I followed the flags down from the hill but then they ran out. I knew I had to contour right along the hill before going rightish and down into Hayfield.
It looks like I didn't go far enough right before starting off downhill. I thought I was ok to start off with but then the path turned into a road (Laneside). I knew it wasn't quite right but thought the road was still going down into Hayfield and would be ok when I got into Hayfield. I ended up on the outskirts of New Mills. It took me a while to work out where I was as I didn't recognise anything and was looking for that stream that runs past the Scout Hut. Eventually found the Sett Valley Trail and jogged back to Scout Hut. No public transport involved, did not get disqualified.
Pretty hacked off but couldn't do much about it. I just came off the hill a little too early - the lack of any visible flags didn't help.
Well done again for the rest of the Troggers and thank for hanging around at the end for the presentation.
Enjoyed my first Trog, that is one tough route, I'll never grumble about the Buxton half again! If I get to know the route a bit better I might be able to shave a minute or 2 off but I think knocking 6 minutes off is out of my reach.
TB - Thanks for the support. I will have to invest in a much smaller waterproof for fell races. Managed to catch Christine up and we ran together for about 5/6 miles but then she got me on the steep downhill to the stream and she just gradually diasappeared off into the distance.
A big well done also to PPP and NI for much speedier performances.
JMC-funnily enough, that's the exact place where i thought JS might get caught out, as she's not the best at navigation, but in the circumstances well done. Erm, my first Trog race, i was somewhere in the middle of the race, with no one in front and no one behind and had to wait around for 5 mins. till someone came along i could tag onto.
JS-there's a very lightweight showerproof top which converts into a bum bag, with separate bottoms available from Pete Bland sports-on line (it's cheap) which is accepted as overall weatherproofs, particularly used for races in the Lakes, you can fit a small bottle into it at a push.
TB - to drag the metaphor to beyond reason. Heard there was a breakdown at a crossroads. If you are looking for something to do while feeling down, why not get into the 'putting something back' mood. Go on coaching course, or get into referee or time keeping, or stockport is in danger of not doing any track and field meetings for lack of an organiser even the manager is a new member who knows few people. Both jobs needs someone who will not be shy about approaching folk something I feel you might be able to do.
AM- Happy childhood memories for me of Richmond Park, I went there often as a kid, I was born in Wandsworth and I lived in Barnes for a short time aged about 21 and discovered it was fantastic for magic mushrooms.

TST-there were quite a few Striders, in fact a group of 4 women going along having a nice chat.

Anyone got Stu Parrots number? I need a gas pipe moving and he is injured at moment so isn't coming to track.
If you have it, please can you text it to 07837 985285

Daz - what is wrong with waltzing, are you drawn by the shallow sheen of chrome.
