Just got back in from measured 13.1....its gonna be my last full distance one before the race. Conditions were decent, slight wind, and threw some decent hills in to mirror the sheffield course. Knocked it out in 1.26.59, relatively pleased with that, reckon it stands me in good stead.
Foo....I been off the thread for a while... How is the hip now? Settled?
FOO: I have a really bad knee problem at the moment. Sat with the ice pack a few nights this week. The only way through is some bloody strong ibroprofen
Tom, you did 13.1 in 1:26:59? Just as a training run? That is very impressive! I'm hoping to do this race in 1:35 ish but I think I need to do some more last minute long distance training!
James M....1.35 would be an awesome time, hope you nail it? You ran many previous to this? My p.b is 1.19 but im hoping to take some off that at some stage this seasson...fingers crossed!
Thanks Aitch. I'm not giving up on the idea completely yet, depends how much training I miss. Already missed one week and that would be ok, but if it gets to more than 2 weeks there's no point as I won't be ready.
You don't want to risk injury by being unprepared.
I don't think I could even dream of 1.19! My goal for next year (or later this year) is a sub 2 hour half and I can't see my speed improving much beyond that!
For 1.19, or 1.35, I'd have to be on a motorbike. Think my last half was 1.58, Brass Monkeys. I'd like to be a tad faster, but not expecting miracles- unless motorbikes allowed.
Aitch...2.10 is still ace tho. Utmost respect goes out to each and evey person on this thread...Non-Runners just dont realise how much effort and training goes into a half-marathon, or even a 10k. Ok, so i have a respectable time, but the bottom line is that we are all runners here. Times are a bonus.
Aww thanks Tom! Makes me feel better. I ran Rother Valley 10k today in 55.37 and my time at another 10k in September 2007 was 64.34! I'm pleased that my speed has improved a fair bit!
Wowzers Aitch... Thats quite a chunkage to knock off...well done, nice work!!! See....give it a few months n u will be creeping up on me too. Speed is so hard to develop...the endurance is relatively easy but speed is indeed the key. U r clearly mastering it tho.
We sometimes forget that even running a couple of miles is a long way for most people.Running a half marathon is a great achievement regardless of time and is beyond most people.
If it wasn't such an achievement we wouldn't do it.
olso looking for a sub 2 hour but as i know for last year the last few miles can be break or make in a race of this lenth
sorry to hear about mick the man is a real fighter and it must be hard for him to have to pull out well don at RV aitch didnt see you but you wernt to far behind so keep up the hard work
I did Brass Monkey too Poppy, 1:20 for me, despite the mother of all hangovers after drinking all day pre and post Doncaster's win at Leeds. Will be nowhere near that at Sheffield, having struggled since mid-Feb with small cartilige tear, plus it's only 2 weeks after London.
Thanks Tom and Foo! I've improved loads since I started running and it's always nice to prove it at races!
Andy - are you in a support group for FLM? If you want to be, you have the option. Head over to the FLM section. You can even be in my group if you want to!
Nice Work DM....It was bloomin` freezing out there too, my hands were like little blocks of ice when i returned!!! Hope everyone is gonna be cheering Barnsley on today...fingers crossed for the super reds!
Tom - sheffield will be my first half marathon race so hopefully I can get a decent time. Good luck with improving your pb!
DM - nice going thats fast. I did about 9 miles with one of my mates this morning but didn't time it, just took it easy. Hasn't been as cold as that since Feb though has it? I was wearing hat and gloves! Not surprised you got cold hands Tom!
Did Ranby 10 mile today in 62:49, nice warm up for next week. After wondering why I haven't received a number yet, I realised that it is actually in a drawer "dummy", 437.
Last week on a 6 mile easy run from work i couldnt run for more than 10 mins at a time before the little gremlin on my shoulder told me to stop and i kept listening to it. Its strange what a few days rest can do.
One thought whilst out this morning is should i be looking ahead or down towards the pavement. I find looking down and concentrating sometimes helps.

1.19???!!!! *feints* that's AMAZING! You're like an elite athlete!!
Here's me thinking I will be chuffed if I can get my time down to 2.10!!
CC2 - I'm sorry to hear you might not be able to run......Dynamick also doesn't think he'll be running as he's injured his calf. What a shame....

Got my knee strapped up with ice again. Doh!
