Birdseye - There aren't many hills, but there are a number of short sharp climbs, but what goes up must come down again. Besides all of the climbs are no more than 200m long and, with the coastal views that you will have, you won't even notice them
Hi guys, I am in this one too now and have got my number. Are we not all supposed to shout 118 118 or something at this point.
Doing the Dartford 10 I met a poor guy coming the other way who had to give up after about two miles. I couldn't resist pointing out that his race number 666 might have had something to do with it. I think he saw the funny side of it.
My number has turned up as well. I'm thinking about staying in Sandwich the night before the race - does anyone have any recommendations of hotels/b&bs?
We have received a card from Royal Mail saying they have kept an entry for this race as enough postage wasn't paid - we won't be paying the extra so if you think it might be you then you need to resend your entry with the correct postage as soon as possible - Royal Mail will eventually return your entry to you!
Three of us driving down so will take a look at your options. I think we stayed at the Bell last time so thanks for the link as I'd forgotten about that. Might do something a bit cheaper this year though!
I'd say 1 hour would usually do it on a Sunday morning, 1h20m to be safe, and give your self a bit of getting lost time . There is also a 5-10 minute walk from parking to the race HQ.
Birdie Pie There is also a brand new Holiday Inn express. Located beside the Thanet way which opened this week. It is only about a 5-10 minute drive to race HQ.
For those of you with long memories it is based on the old Prospect Inn which was an art Deco style pub and is a listed building. It looks lovely !
Sorry I have tried and failed to do a link thingy but if you Google Express by Holiday Inn its called Kent International Airport Minster.
hmm yes it always looks so busy! I think its down to the superb transport links. Mind you they were going to call it London Manston which really was pushing it a little!
No complaints from me BP and CB about the lack of development at Kent International London Airport, as I live on the flight path
The delectable Mrs Foster, will you need me to Marshall or can I run, or is it too early to know? The reason I ask is because I know that I can't register on the day so I don't want to miss the deadline. (You can tell that I am the sort who turns up at the airport 5 hours before the departure!!!!!)
Cliff flatery will, it seems, get you anywhere well at least the chance to run in this race. The current Mrs F said you should be Ok to run so send in your entry.

evening
have just entered - PSC & Jnr volunteering for marshal duties.
Congratulations, Cinders!
I agree about the asphyxiation - especially when the "jelly babies" turn out to be wine gums!

Remember there will be NO entries on the day.
HI Birdy,
We don't know our local hotels that well, unfortunately. Are you driving or taking the train? If the train, then Ramsgate may be easier than Sandwich.
The Bell Hotel is in the middle of Sandwich and is where the officials stay when the open in on... So it will be quite posh I would Imagine

Are three lists of places to stay. Hope this helps.
For Thanet you are probably best staying in Ramsgate, rather than Broadstairs or Margate as you will be closer in the morning...

might help.

It must have been somebody with a sense of humour who came up with the idea of a web address called open sandwich!
Hi all
Looking forward to this as part of FLM buildup. Any suggestion of how long it will take to drive to the start from the M25?
Keith
Thanks Scotty very helpful

Ooooh....can't go wrong with holiday inn.
Kent international always makes me chortle...
Thanks Mark!

It makes me chortle too. When I moved to Kent in 1993 I was told that Manston was going to be handling 1.5 million passengers a year by 2000. Oh yeah!

Page 4 for this race?
I'd better hurry up and enter it...
