We climbed for a mile or some then took a left hand turn and I looked up and said 'oh f*ck' and the marshall at the junction said "just put your head down love, it's a bad one" but then about 20 seconds later I got cramp and had to stop and the lovely guy came to check on me..
Marshall - "cramp, love"? H - "errr yeah" Marshall - "is it still spasming"? H - "look" (points at calf) Marshall - "oh dear, I think you'd better stretch out before tackling that" (points at steep hill)
LOL!!
Hey Holgs, well done to you!! Buxton is blinkin' hilly! I think I live in the hilliest county in the country!
well done everyone for all your fantastic training/racing this weekend!
I've done bugger all for a week now (except buy some speedplay light action pedals and order some shoooos from the LBS) I'm seriously wibbling over the oulton park duathlon next sunday as am so busy at work that training seems unimaginable and also it's a field of 200 so I know I'll be last
FIrst time I used my clippy pedals was from buxton to glossop - it was so windy I got blown off (my bike) going down a big hill cos I couldn't unclip quick enough!
think i must of caught your eating habit! Not stopped since I got back!
And please don't think I was having a go about the shiny shoes thing, It was just a weather comment really, I would have been exactly the same in your shoes - haha, pardon the pun!
Thanks thats good to know! Your not just a triathlete but a chipper one at that!! There's hope for me yet then I've got some other probs with my knee that they can't put right and I've got to put up with but I'm hoping to at least do Bala in 2010 nad concentrate on Sprints and maybe the Deva oly next year. No pain no gain hey
If it makes you feel any better Sprocket, I snapped my ACL skiing a few years ago and they decided it was a clean break so I didn't have it repaired, I don't have an ACL now in my right knee, you will bounce back, I don't do too badly. Occasionally have a bit of pain and I also try not to twist unnecessarily playing sports such as squash and hockey but tri is fine, just make sure that when you are in rehab you do the exercises they set you, thats the difference between getting better and having issues for the rest of your life.
Thanks Rose that is good to hear. I'm feeling very today after 4 hours in casulty last night and being back to sqaure one knee wise. At least I've got surgery to look forward to so the 'getting better' bits in sight. I've been told by the consultant that my knee is heading fast towards arthritic but I've always been able to tollerate pain in my knees, so as long as they can sort it so I can run i'll be grand. I'm not going to worry just focus on what I want to achieve. Hubby has signed up for the pre registering IMUK so I'll just concentrare on supporting him next year and then holding his hand while he gets his tattoo .
Sorry to hear about the injury problems but look on the brightside surely this means you can be spoilt rotten by Mr Sprocket and maybe the Sprocker's? It's will get better.
I had both cartliges out in each knee aged nine, and about 8 years ago I gave up playing football after tearing my ACL for the second time in the left knee ( only once so far in the right ), the consultant actually told me that if I'd received one more bad tackle I would probably have to wear a structured knee brace for everyday walking and give up playing sport. I underwent a hell of a lot of physio, rested lots and came back much stronger - hell I now do IM's. I guess what I'm trying to say that all though today is a dark day it will get better, and you will get stronger. And we're here to support you as well.
Thank you so much Its been a rotten day with the world and its wife assuming I did my knee running and wasn't it time I gave up my running/tri (don't you just love the mums at school with rich husbands who sip tea all day and instruct the cleaner..) . One person said 'your a mother for goodness sake isn't it time you stopped this stupidity!'
I love running, it keeps me sane after a day in school, and I loved Tri even more! I will be off my crutches and kicking some bums very soon lol!
On the sprockers front, cake, Harry decided, on the wander from the car to school to get Becs, that if he couldn't hold my hand he'd 'help with my sticks' and so he did. I nearly knocked him out as he helped me each step of the way Bless him! Mr S even did the ironing! Winner!!!!
Sorry to hear about your knee Sprocket. Hope the op sorts you out. Can't believe the comments you've had!! Most people I know just think I'm a bit mad anyway, but thankfully I've never been injured (will surely go and do something spectacular now!!) so I've never had the 'shouldn't you just give up' comments, although I know friends have. At least the you won't get those words on here. Brilliant news about the ironing though.... every cloud!!
(((Sprocksy))) I'm so sorry you've had this crap of people... especially the affluent and brainless barbie army who can't comprehend physical problems beyond their roots growing out! grrr....
Just about, not got out running yet. I have lots of swimming planned for tomorrow. I'm glad we put in the miles I feel a lot better about the Half Marathon now.
I've sent you an e-mail. Do you fancy a few 10 mile time trials in the summer?
