    evening all

just finished my 5K race dressed as Superman. Did it in 24.48. (a PB)

It was really great to have all the kids cheering me on. It was a bit hot but well worth it

    time for a cold beer!

Been a couple of days since i've been on, so much to catch up on.

Welcome to the new people, hope we can help you anyway we can to achieve your goals.

Well done womble on the name change & for doing your race.

Well done grumpy (superman) in a very good time indeed.

I really need good advice now. I really really find it hard running in the heat. Went out for a 3 mile run last night & i only just made it in the heat. It was really hard work but the problem is i am doing a 10k on sunday & if it is hot i know i am going to struggle like hell. I have run further than that before with no problem so any good advice would be greatly appreciated image

ady - when it is hot you just need to make sure you take on plenty of liquids.

drink before and during the race,

you will run slower than normal but so will everyone else.

best of luck. let us know how you get on.

    Hello everybody.

Haven't said hello for while, but have been hovering around as is my way, and slowly getting on with it.image

Have been slowly moving through the beginners schedule, repeating weeks left right and centre. Attempted R8 W2 x 3 yesterday and (apparently like the rest of you) wilted unspectacularly in the heat after punishing myself to complete the second 8 Mins.

However as yesterday  was the hottest I have run in to date, and I attempted to do more than I have before, I claim the Victory!

In fact bring on the heatimage, because if I am doing more (be it ever so slowly, or two back one forward etc.) as conditions worsen, then surely when summer and the heat fades (please not just yet!) and the pollen levels rescind, then we should really be able to see the fruits of our summers hard work.

    Cheers for now GG

(Because trying IS actually good enough, (Well today anyway))image

Quite true....keep trying 'tis better than not!!!

    Hi there Gargantuan

I struggle so much in the heat and agree with Grumpys advice -  make sure you drink enough before hand and during if need to.   Well Done Superman  image!!

Kate  -  Great News on doing so well yesterday, 3 miles in that heat... Pheww!!   Just go for it  - should be no probs with run and walking your 10k -   loads of entrants do actually walk/run

LJ hope your sore calf  benefits  from going to the gym - go easy

Club night this evening  and meeting at the university race track - bit worried about going and what to expect but other half is going so, not one to be left out  image and all the usual suspects will be there!

    TC all xx

Ok, I have been on 3 runs  now - had yesterday off - all 3 miles all around thirty minutes. I ran home from the BR station (3 miles) but walked a bit too. I have to stay at work for another 3 hrs so am dreading the run now - give me some positives and encouragement duderinos. This negative devil in me takes over too often

Jeoff - my lower back hurts as well.. Do you have specialist shoes or anything because I don't?

I haven't run since Monday and I am out tonight and tomorrow night.. Just seem to be working loads and not getting much done..

Seems like all the euphoria of last week and the interview and the job and everything seems to be dissipating...

I'm not down at all, so don't worry, but I do want to run but can't summon up the energy!

Plod i do know what you mean. Life is just not fair when you have to juggle things you like to do, things you have to do & things you really should do but don't get time.

Went for a run last night, only a mile in cooler conditions & it felt good for a change. Horrible when you have to wish the sun wouldn't come out. Hope it is cool on sunday, getting nervous & excited now.

I do take a drink with me on every run over 3 miles, bit of a pain carrying it but unless i get a bum bag (noooo wayyyy) i will have to carry my bottle.

imageHi Jeoff & imageBS - there is a running shop called "Up and Running" they analyse your running style on treadmill with computer and depending how your foot falls they advise on the type of shoe for you - wondered if this might help your lower back probs.x

imageAdy - good luk for Sunday - enjoy and you will be fine - I carry my water bottle the one you can put your hand through and when I struggle with the dreaded imagehills I grip it hard and it seems to help me dig in - ( l kow that sound odd but then this is plod here!!!!)

imageHi Ros - have been an avid fan of the Apprentice since the beginning - very entertaining !!!!!!!!!

imageMyRF - ta for encouragement about times - am always amazed when I make it back from each run 'cos I am not a natural plus am very much on the wrong side of 21   !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but very interesting to see how you can make yourself do things that don't come naturally.

imageLove chatting to you all I hope I don't bore the pants off you all - happy running & have a good eve what ever your'e up to. x

No special running shoes but it is a starnge back sensation - hurts more when inactive - like a lazy man disease lol. I have a neutral running stance anyway.

imageI am trying to increase my weekly mileage now in readiness for Bristol half mara , so on Monday I did 4.1m - wednesday I did 5m and tonight I was in a rush 'cos I was short of time due to riding horse first,  so I did my 2m route BUT I did it in 19.50image, Wooooooooooooo Hoooooooooooooo - Going back to Dec/Jan this same route was taking me 23/24 mins - so am well chuffed -  Rest day tomrrow and will do a longer run on Sunday.

    Hi all,

Hectic week so haven't made on here for a while! The running went out the window too - I went today for the first time since last Sunday. Not impressed with myself. Did 3.1 miles in 33:21 - not my fastest, but very glad I went!

Well done today Grumpy - glad you had a good race image

Good luck to Kate and Ady for your races today - please report back asap - we want to hear all about it!

BS - Well done for getting out and running. Don't worry about dropping back a week - we all have times when life gets too hectic to fit everything in - as long as you don't give up, that's the main thing image

Plod - Well done on your times - you're getting fast now! I think the best thing for increasing mileage is to not set out too quick straight away - I keep doing that and ending up knackered after 3 miles! When is your half mara?

Hello to everyone else - hope you're all having lovely weekends!

    I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

     I RAN THE WHOLE WAY

I HAVE A MEDAL TO PROVE IT AND EVERYTHINK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you tell I'm over the moon and really really pleased?  image

Actually they shortened the course slightly - because the sea was too rough to allow us to run all the way down Sunderland pier so it was actually just over 5.5.miles rather than 6 miles.  But still that's the furthest I've ever run and given that the most I've managed in the last six weeks cos of my chest infection is 2.5/3 miles I'm chuffed to bits.

To be honest at no point did I think "I can't go on, I need to walk" apart from right near the end and by that point loads of people were cheering us on.  I even managed a sprint finish.  There were a couple of killer hills too.  Lots of people walked the race so I could've walked and not felt odd.  Actually some of the walkers made it quite hard to keep running as there were log jams.

So I can now say I've run in a race with Liz Yelling and other elite runners.  The highlights are on TV tonight which I'm going to watch as I shamelessly waved at every camera I could see!  Need to wait for Great run to update the web so I can check out my race time - think it was around an hour which makes it about 11 min miles.

You know the best bit about it all?  I've got my motivation back and for the first time I feel that I could actually do the GNR with some hard work!

Update - just checked out the website and I came 925th!  (out of about 3000 I think) and did it in 1hr and 34secs!
