Didn't realise it is a new route this year, have entered, hate it, but feel it is good for training as much as anything, but with a new route it will certainly improve it, may try harder in that case.
Hi everyone. I realise it's a long shot, but I don't suppose anyone will be driving to this from anywhere near Oxford/Farnham/Bournemouth/Hindhead and would be willing to drive a non-driver? Would love to run it, but don't drive and public transport options seem limited. I live in Oxford, but could stay in any of the above. Happy to provide petrol, bananas, eternal gratitude, scintillating conversation etc.
My PB lies with this race too (2005) - having just knocked 6 seconds off my PB for my marathon time I'm not discounting the double this year!!! The 2005 time was the only time I've finished a race and been really chuffed with my time, I was convinced the course couldn't have been measured correctly - however, I am 3 years older and having aching joints to prove it ...
Might enter this to keep my friend company until he speeds off and leaves me, although not sure i will get a PB as it is in the 6 weeks between my Mara and Ultra.
Mr immune, now you're just showing off!!! I'm hoping I won't have lost my 'marathon legs' but feel the gap is just too long so in a way I think you're better placed to perform well
Forever Hopeful - You may be right, its funny how a planned easy pace run can turn into very competitive race especially when in a race environment. Should be good fun either way, whether i am 1:45 or 2hrs+.
Getting a bit concerned as i am saying to people 'only have to do a 14miler this weekend' as if its not far. Must give myself the whole of December off i think.
I like the idea of a 14 miler being easy!!! Sunday will be my first long run since my marathon and I'm really not sure which way it's going to go. Out of interest, what is your maximum mileage for a training run preparing for your ultra?
Hello everyone. Just entered this as preperation for the Hastings Marathon with is 4 weeks later. Like the sound of everyones desription of it being flat and hoping to be in good shape by then as already improving at a steady rate.
I'm in for this, as it's reasonably local. After Clarendon Half yesterday it should seem easy!!! (That's what I'm hoping anyway.
We've got a few more weeks to work on our pace and stamina NTL -yesterday was my slowest Half EVER, and probably around 5 minutes slower than last year over the same course. Keeping my balance in the mud wore me out.
DD, if Clarendon was as wet yesterday as it was with us, I don't envy you the conditions - well done for finishing!! I've had 4 runs in the last two weeks so I feel I've got some ramping up to do
I think a lot of people will be looking for those PB's. Shame about the 3 laps though. I guess its good as you'll know when to stride out. Aiming to get into the 1 hr 30's (1 hr 39 mins, 59 seconds). But running on my own so never very good at judging the pace!
The longest (and only) race I've ever done was the Eastleigh 10K and just managed to get in in under the hour. I'm currently training and do a "long" run of 10K once a week and am still beating the hour mark but not by much ! Do you reckon I have enough time to train up for this ?
Gosport Road Runners haven't posted the map on their website yet and it does state a 'brand new course' so how do people already know it's a little lap followed by 2 bigger ones is this inside information? They say the map will be on the website soon ... I love the open endedness of phrases like that perhaps it will be there by race day! Either way it still states that it's a potential PB course which seems to be all we're interested in.
I'm still caught between this and the Hellrunner (Hell Down South) which are both on the same day. The Hellrunner looks like a lot of fun and the Gosport Half seems a tad more serious with lots of PB's being sought. I know its personal preference but any advice from anyone that's done both?
But then I dont like the over hyped over priced events such as hell runner so I am a bit biased, plus the fact Gosport is the 4th race in the Hampshire Road Race Lge.
Ahh well if your healthy it shouldnt be a problem. I run 10k 3 x per week (for the past 4 months) and ran the Margate in 1.45 (my first half). So you dont have to run crazy miles to get ok times. You dont HAVE to run the whole thing. Just go get a taste for it....Concentrate on your diet a few days before, you'llllll be fine
Thanks Toby - I think I'l try to increase my distances for the next week or so and then make a decision after that. If I do enter, at least I know I'll get a PB

Whizzy (well not so any more)

Have targeted this to be my fast 1/2 for the year, so it best pay off............
Plus its also part of the Hants Road Race Lge

Also a map would be good if anyone has one
How often/far do you currently run per week?
I heard its 15 mini laps
I thought it was 16........!
Its bound to be flat, there are very few hills in Gosport, and I doubt that they will change a fast course for a slower course.
if you base it on cost then Gosport,
if you base it on organisation, Gosport again
But then I dont like the over hyped over priced events such as hell runner so I am a bit biased, plus the fact Gosport is the 4th race in the Hampshire Road Race Lge.
Hi Toby,
I'm currently running about 25K a week - I know it's not a lot but I'm building up slowly, just not sure if a half mara may be too much too soon
Doug
