DD - its straight out and back....there is a little 300/400 metre incline about half a mile from the finish and a little, really steady climb on the way out....but nothing of any note really..
Stay on M62, then M621...get off Junction 3 (Leeds City Centre)...follow signs for Train Station for about half a mile and then you should see loads of signs for city centre car parks.
Does anyone or know of anyone who has an entry they are not using due to whatever reason. Would really like to run but didn't managed to get entered in time.
From the train station to start its about a 5/10 minute walk...you should see loads of other runners but if you need directions just ask people where the town hall is. Parking anywhere will be fine...and I think most carparks are free...
heavy snow! yikes!! I remember it being pretty cold in 2003 when I did it but dont think it snowed? should be interesting... I'll be the one in full snowboarding gear!
yep, this one says heavy snow for sunday, plus 12mph winds. will they allow it to go ahead in snow? can imagine that just getting there will be difficult if it does snow.
at least my little girl will be happy if it snows, especially as its her birthday!
just received an email from organisers wishing me luck, nice touch. well, they are reminding about sponsorship too
actually, we shouldnt panic yet, its still a few days away, and often the forecast snow doesnt arrive. its never as bad in Leeds as some surrounding areas either-manys the time i've left home (12miles away) all togged up to trudge through snow, to find not much more than sleet in the centre!
You're right, no doubt it'll change over the next few days. I REALLY don't want sleet though! ugh! refer to be hit in the face by nice soft snow than nasty wet sleet
Meglet - same from me coming from Huddersfield...some parts have 2-3 inches and then you get to the centre and there hardly is anything, just a few flakes in the air!!! I cant imagine Leeds having too much to be honest..
Cold, wet, windy & miserable ... a normal day on the Kirkstall Rd then.
I had been quite excited about this race as training was going well ... but, since I hurt my knee, part of me is dreading it now. I've now learned that my knee problem is due to ITBS (caused by friction between my iliotibial band and the knobbly bit of my thigh bone at the knee) which explains why it seems to be okay in day-to-day life but flares up when I run any distance. Need to get it sorted out properly but really don't want to miss the Abbey Dash. Dilemma. So I think I'm just going to strap it up above the knee to try to disipate the tension at the friction point .... and hope for the best! .
Dan, how long have you been like this? Im no expert but I think you really need to rest it a couple of weeks at least or you could be doing further damage.
Only you know the extent to the pain/injury though...just go easy.
Yes, the sensible thing is to drop out, rest and recover ...rather than going hell for leather for a sub-50. But we all have "must do" races so I think I'll go for the middle ground and run but pre-determine that that I'll drop out if things are going wrong. At least that way I'll know I didn't miss out.
