Am living in Paris at the moment and thought I would do the P-V race in Sept. Heard it is gorgeous but VERY hilly. Anyone done it? Any special training needed ie: double punishment hill training? How do you train for a tough race wihtout knackering yourself in the process?

Regarding training, I'd follow a 10-mile training program but make sure 60% of it is done on hills? (But have teh easy days on the flat.)
Just entered, should be great :-)
I would def. do it again though.
Good luck to everyone giving it a go.
Biff's suggestion sounds sensible or if you want to improve your endurance without running yourself into the ground, try doubling up. I did this a couple of years ago after injury. I wanted to do a half but had only 6 weeks to train after a four month layoff. My physio suggested running 10k twice a day, minimum of 6 hours rest between sessions. Did that twice per week for about three weeks.
For this maybe 4 miles Twice a day 2 times per week for a few weeks then 5m x 2 x 2 then 6m. Once you get past 6m run 7 & 5 then 8 & 4.
Add to this a hilly circuit run at the weekend say 6-8 miles and do it on alternate weekends combined with a flatter but longer circuit say 8-12 miles.
Obviously don't go straight in at these distances, start from where you're comfortable and build up during the summer.
How are you lot? I take it P-V is your post Le T 'something to look forward to' race, must admit I've felt a bit flat all week.
And besides, it will be good practice for Marseilles-Cassis 5 weeks later!
Patouka I'm posting out a cd of the Le T photo's to Rach and I've put a copy in for you and yours.
I think P-V and M-C will be just what the doctor ordered for me.
I have changed running action so that I no longer run off the heels, but it's taking time to develop calf strength. All that climbing will be good for the calves, and also, they'll be no problems about my finishing time, as even if I was back to my speed of last year, I wouldn't be doing a PB!
I will only be going for the weekend. Has anyone got any tips on where to stay? I'm probably going on Eurostar ...
I think this starts near the Eiffel Tower and there's an Etap or something similar quite nearby. Personally I always go for the cheapest I can find coz they make me laugh.
Yes Moi! I'm doing the double JB! Shame Patouka won't be around for it...
Have now booked transport (Eurostar) & hotel for P-V, getting over on Sat 4-ish, leaving Sunday 5-ish. Staying at a Comfort Inn near Montmatre.
Flights to Marseilles booked, out Sat, getting there 2-ish, leaving Sun 4-ish. If anyone's interested, cost £92, Easyjet, going from Gatwick.
Just got Mars. hotel to book now ...
2.5 weeks to go!
Biff, Guy, toi et moi I think Jelly. How about a spot of lunch afterwards everyone?
Training plans......what have I started?
And you lot will wait for me at the end won't you, only I haven't been anywhere a hill since July so it'll probably take me a good 2 hrs to get round! (eek)
If they don't turn up I'll have more flexibility, but in any case am catching Eurostar back at 5pm Paris time.
Must say, am getting a bit excited now.
Have raced in Amsterdam, Rome and soon, Paris (and, of course, London).
Which capital next?!
Bonne chance tout le monde!
I'll look into what station trains from Versailles arrive at and maybe find somewhere local to it. Otherwise the Champs Elysées is always easy to get to.
Is Helen coming Jelly?
As for getting back to Paris I would think it's public transport....can't see the organisers laying on buses for 25,000.
I got my number e-mailed to me today, I assume you all have too.
Helen declined this one Rach, she says what with having just come back and going out again in October she doesn't fancy it and it's too short a trip as well!
Re meals I'm happy to go with the flow, I'm catching a late Eurostar back so I'm easy......reminds me I must actually book it!
Been checking the trains and they run very frequently back to Montparnasse and St Lazare (also Austerlitz but that's the back of beyond). I don't know Versailles so can't really suggest anywhere for after the race. Let's just get together for a drink or something on the Saturday and make a plan of action then.
Haven't received anything yet from P-V but got my La Parisienne dossard number today! )
How does it compare to Windsor half? I ran (well was dragged round) that last year with a belting hangover and no hill training in about ten mins over my then pb. I can't say I particularly enjoyed the experience though!
