My plan is certainly to use Llanelli as my 'race' with VLM a case of getting round - but I'll still have to do it justice as it's a club place. I'm hoping for 3.15-3.20 for the first and sub 4 for the second.
My 15 week schedle (aimed at Llanelli not VLM) starts Monday.
I do agree that a little more info would be useful - especially for those coming from further afield - at least us locals can make a reasonable guess!
As I only imagine I'll have sight of you for the first few miles I'll hope someone else can help you out. For info - I know several of my faster clubmates are staying away - mainly as its an unknown quantity. I'll ask around again as there will be someone. Maybe other clubs?
An update on my training. I started my 16 weeks schedule last week and have enjoyed training over the Christmas period. Not sure how much I'll be enjoying it next week when back at work and having to run on cold dark mornings and evening though. Will have to just keep my goal in mind and enjoy the feeling of getting fitter - hopefully
I'm following the Mike Gratton 80-100 mpw schedule as much as possible, but adapting it slightly to fit in with my lifestyle and tiredness levels. What schedules are others following or have you devised your own?
I'm still waiting for more info myself, especially the launch of the new website.
As for schedules, i'll be following the Richard Nerurkar 12 wk programme, i don't start until 25th Jan, and have only been racing short stuff over the xmas period and just a few steady runs to keep me ticking over.
Below are some questions that i've had response to from the R.O.
1. The course is certified ? … To be certified as all our races 2. If there are prizes, and what are the prize categories ? … There will be prizes; a cash prize for the male and female winner and trophies for the first, second, third in each of the age categories. The categories are the same as the Llanelli Waterside Half Marathon 3. Is there to be 'chip timing' ? … Yes 4. Will there be adequate marshalling ? … Yes as in all our events 5. Are there going to be water stations / energy drinks available and how frequent ? … Frequent water stations but no energy drinks 6. What is the closing date for entry ? … 12/04/10 7. What is the race start time ? … Will be moved to a 9:30 am start 8. Will there be ample parking close to the event ? … Yes and free 9. Will the race start / finish areas be in the same location ? … Yes 10. Do you have a map of the course ? … Will be available on the new website
If at any time the above information changes the details will appear on the new website.
Thanks for the information FA. Do you know when the new website is going to be launched?
Thanks for taking part in the time thing. I think it just helps to know what people are aiming for as in a small marathon like this, it helps some to know they'll have company even or only for a few miles
I hope the route is easy for spectators to see us at a few points as BR (my hubby) will be supporting me.
Good to hear of some other first timers as well as me. Was really worried that as the entry numbers are small that only experienced marathon runners will be around and I would left looking rather silly!! Hoping to finish in one piece, want to post a time to achieve but not sure when to target myself.
this weathers not helping wit the training trying to run round work as being a postman best time 3.26 but that was 6 years ago also got a 1year old who wont let me get any sleep at night
DF - I suppose I'm with you and would love to finish sub 4.30 but I don't want to get disappointed and miss out on the sense of achievement of completing first mara if it doesn't happen.
Hilly, i still haven't seen anything of the new website as yet. Hopefully there'll be a few more sub 3 runners there.
FM, i think it says its 'full' according to the RW online entry, i suppose you could email RO and see if they have spare places, or a reserves list should anyone drop out.
someone told me for my first to give yourself 3 targets.......1 that you you would love to get if everything fits into place and is perfect.........1 that you would love to get with a good run.and then o#ne that you would be happy with..........( eg to finish)
I've come last in a few races............haven't minded that at all as i have met my target.........you get much more support on a course if you are last than in the middle of the pack

I also intend to 'race' this marathon, but would like to know how many fast guys are running it, as i don't like running alone.
Define 'fast'!
Scanning through I can see a few names of sub 3 runners - mostly in the earlier entries. Also define 'guys' as one of them is female!!!!
Hence 'Flying Ant'!

Fast Legs?
LOL, ironically, i was running with the forimite 'Fast legs' this morning
Cheers for the info ! I was just wondering as i don't know who else is running it around my pace, and 26 miles can become lonely on times !
Perfect! I should start my own runners dating agency!!!
Well let's hope it's a 'Barry Style' multiple lap race - then you'll never be lonely!!!!!
Cable - where can you see the list of people entered as i want to check my entry is in ok
Hi
Happy New Year all.
Does anyone know when the official website will be up for this race so we can see the route and details of drinks etc?
I'll start a list on here so we can see who will be running around the same pace as us. Hope some or all of you will join in and put your names down

Hi Hilly,
My first attempt at a full mara so a bit reluctant to commit to a time, main aim is to finish in one piece
80 -100 mpw sounds tough! Good luck with that.
I'm following one of the RW plans. The paces seem to suit me. They've worked well for me for half maras so fingers crossed it'll do the job.
Happy New Year Everyone !

Hi Annadav,
I think I agree with you that for us newbies any finish is a positive result, and I will be happy with that!!
As the weeks roll by I may look to adjust my time if Hilly allows?
