This is true I'm not sure the Internet is the way to go? Perhaps letters and or flyer's to the running / athletic  clubs etc would have a more positive response?
  • Options
I think our Martin has done that. I will have a go this week, when I find the timeimage
  • Options
Yeah Woody, I've contacted numerous running clubs and NI Athletics already.

I want to wear my leathers!image Get onto the list peops! It'll be great running in NI - beautiful places and guiness for refreshments!image

Great Martin but was it by email or snail mail? I'm just thinking if a flyer is posted out to them asking them to put up on a notice board, it might get to the people who would like to take part, instead of the email recipient deciding it's not something that there club might want to get involved in. Whats your thought folks?

We are trying are best Barry, if doesn't happen I'll take you for a spin on my bike when you get back, or the next bit of floating I do. image

    It was by Email.

I found that the websites very seldom even had an email address, just a contact section to fill in.

I don't remember seeing any snail mail addresses and for my experience with running clubs is that a lot don't really have a 'club hose' as such.

I tried targeting clubs around the coast area so at least they might have an interest as it would be local.

I know where I live we get a copy of Northern Runner, a running magazine which is free, from our local running shops. Does NI have anything similar that you could get in touch with?
  • Options

    Not that I know of.

Up until recently we never even had a specialist running shop until Up and Running pupt 2 shops in the provience and they've been contacted a number of times and stuff put up on their forum.

Thanks Martin and yea you are right about no club house etc

Good idea Charlotte or if not how about sending flyer's out to the sports shops to display,

Also we have picked up a good few runners from flyer's left on the table with the rest of application forms for local runs at local races.

The idea of leaving flyers at local races is a really good one.

Another suggestion may be to put a flyer around the local sports centres, if someone spoke to their manager etc they may even do a bit of a promotion for us ...

Another may be to drop a flyer in at any coastal public houses, perhaps see if they could each get a group to run to one leg, perhaps have it as an inter-pub challenge image)

All good idea's Charlotte I particularly like the pub one image.

Stu did a flyer ever got sorted I know there, was talk of one and it being readily available on the website?

  • Options

The pub flyer one does sound a good idea. image

    Well done Charlotte...

    Hello All,

I think this is a fantastic idea.

There are about six or seven (maybe eight)  of us would love to help. We can take on all the legs from Bangor as far as Newcastle if needed. We're not going to break any records but we'd love to help out if there's room???

     Thanks

    John

    Yayy !!

You may well have just saved NI from being relegated from the coasters tour John!

I'm really pleased as I'm really keen to do the cross over legs from Wales to NI..... Just a shame I won't have time to bring him back across.....

Choose your slot Barry 2 - the Dunservick - Ballycastle is a particularly georgeous run if you're up that direction.
  • Options

Dunseverick - Ballycastle is gorgeous, and I'm surprised someone hasn't bagged it already!

I' m Belfast based so the unclaimed South Down routes are a little closer to home and more accessible.

Put me down for Mullartown - Maghereagh, Maghereagh - Killowen, and Killowen - Warrenpoint.

I will see if I can get a few friends to join me!

     Barry (Baz on UAR)

    Brilliant!!

Also just found out that the Causeway Coast Marathon has added a 39 mile Ultra Marathon to the course that will be run on Oct 2nd.  There was talk of Barry the Baton doing the marathon race as part of the course but I might kidnap him and take him round the Ultra course instead!

Any update on when Barry will be here?

Dates dependent I could possibly do another leg on the Antrim coast if needed.

  • Options

wow fantastic progress it's now looking much better

Good to see you made it Baz..

Think the idea is to get Barry across for the marathon on the 2 nd of Oct even if it means him being transported from somewhere before Holyhead, as he can be taken back to the point he left off on the main land to continue.
