30 minutes on the treadmill this morning. Very slow pace as it is the first run since Berlin. Good to be back moving again. Looking at getting a couple more of these in this week before pushing on next image

WB - what a great time, you bare foot runner....I'm impressed.

Omar - Manchester or Rome?  Come on, call yourself a runner, BOTH BOTH.... image

I'm on stretch day today - Pilates - OUCH......Walking Group tomorrow, but am tempted to do a run and meet up with them at the end.  The weather is still warm, but tomorrow, so they (who are they?) say, is going to be more like winter and Thursday down to -1.  BRRRRR Long running trousers out me thinks.

    Good week one and all

Long running trousers 1T??????The natives will be very disapointed. As inded will  the tourist board.image

Once again the handicapper has ruined any chance of me winning a prize tonight.I ran 2 mins quicker last time out so this week i'm starting 2 minutes later. It may sound fair but it won't feel it when i'm running in the dark on my own.

It's also London marathan draw tonight.10 hopefulls for 3 places.I'm in the draw but will run Rome looking for a good time and doing London as a see how i feel run.Hopefully with them being 4 weeks apart i can run well in both.

    More news to follow.

Got my confirmation letter, No. 1502....get in there girl...yeah

    Anyone else?

Peeing it down here today, much needed, so opted for a walk with the walking group - good hilly one too, so feel good now.

Hope you are all okay today

Very poor run for me last night.2 minutes slower than 3 weeks ago.I think i may have been suffering from the long run on Saturday as my hanstrings were sore. That's a first for me.I struggled on the hills and felt them pulling.Hopefully it's a good sign but we'll see i suppose. It's not much fun though running in the dark and only seeing those who pass you.

The good news is that i'm in London after being drawn out in the club draw. It's 4 weeks after Rome so i should be fine.

I've not recieved a letter yet.Maybe just the elite  get them first.

Nothing in the post or email from M di Roma that I've noticed yet. PERLENTY of time to worry aboutthat later.

Congrats on your VLM place Howey. I had one deferred from last year, but due to not receiving an email or the magazine (it went to my parent's house in UK but never reached its way to me), I discovered that my place had evapourated. It must be the one you got. Enjoy it. I would have.

And yes, I am bitter image

Easy 11km with strides today seeing as I'm tapering for NY. Managed to dodge the rain, lightning and hail to get an entirely sunny run in. So it's not like I'm habitually unlucky or anything!

You have to download the letter with BIB number from the website., You should have been emailed a code to get into your own info.

    enjoy the day everyone

Nothing on there when i looked.I'll not panic just yet.

I'll try to enjoy your London marathon place Trickyimage.

good news Howey.  Glad your old legs are keeping up.... LOL

I did a nice 9 yesterday, felt good too - darn cold though.  Long everything on.....will have to look out those winter gloves soon.

Just walked today, 5k with the dogs, will get out for a trot tomorrow after the rugger.

Still sunny, had our first frost though, and the wind is very chilly now.

Winter has arrived in this nice part of France

Bloody hell 1T.It was too hot the other day and now it's frosty?

I'm happy to have had a good run to  be honest. It can play on your mind if you have a poor run.Well it can for me.A trip to the coast for me tomorrow to visit the in laws, hense my long run today.Mondy night is another handicap race which is self timed and not really a race but it's good to be chasing folk.there a miserable bunch though but i'll work on them and try to change them.

Have a good run tomorrow people.

27 something kms today with a bit of race pace thrown in for measure. But trying not to push too hard in taper time.

Two Half Marathons on consecutive weekends, racking up my 5th & 7th best times respectively, after surviving an exhausting week on very little sleep... I'm happy with that, although I am feeling very run down today.

So today I have taken a day off work & am taking the opportunity to stretch out on the sofa drinking hot honey & lemon whilst watching a box set of Asterix DVDs...

    That's what I call recovery.

16K very easy today. No rain (just) but my legs were absolutely filthy by the time I got back. Lovely image

    Evening everybody.

5.2 miles on Monday night which went well.I felt great all the way and pushed it more than usual.Last night i did speed work with the club which was 3 1k reps followed by 5 minute reps and 5, 30 seconds ones .

The 1k reps i did in 3.47 all 3 which i'm happy with as last time there were 4 mins each.

I've signed up for a 20 mile fell race in January which should be fun.It takes in 3 huge hills and is a straight race so we finish 20 miles away from where we start which makes a change. How i get home from there i haven't sorted yet.

    Tough guy Howey, tough image

Am scheduled to do my first intervals of the 2nd half of this year tmrw (I had a big bicycle accident in June that put me out of action and made hard running almost impossible).

It's a bit weird, with NY mara just 11 days away to start doing intervals again. But I feel in good condition with low injury risk, so I will see how it goes. 3 fast miles. Back in end of March, before I PB'd in Paris mara, I managed to do this session at an avg. of 3:29m/km pace. Will report back.

Good pace there tricky. When do you fly out to NY?

I need a sub 3.10 marathon time or a sub 1.30 half to get a guaranteed place in NY.Both are do able with a bit more work.I'm doing a half at the end of November which hopefully will be better than my last half time of 1.32 which i did 3 weeks after London.I do believe i'm running better now than then.Finding the money to run it is another thing.

  • Options

It's not just the getting out to NY and the hotels which are expensive - the race fee is an incredible $281.

I fly out on Sunday. image

  • Options

Howey, just shocked myself by doing the 3x 1 mile at  virtually the identical pace I ran them in when I was at my peak in March, so I'm really encouraged by that.

Mile times were 5:34, 5:43 and 5:37 and the watch says i hit 100% max HR. Now I need a sleep image

evening all, Good Luck TD, hope it goes well for you, I'd love to do NY, but it's tres cher huh!?

I did 24k yesterday and just done my nice little 5 to help with the legs, I had to sleep for two hours when I got home yestersday - exhausted....

Just typed out a schedule from my Bible and realised it's ONLY 18 weeks till ROME....eeek.  My schedule is a 13 week one, so will just do the first five weeks again.  Nightmare, need to get some longer runs in from now on.

We are still getting warm weather, 20 is usual during the day, but it's a windy time now, and just now it's howling a gale, so that was hard work.  yesterday was glorious sunshine but the wind was nippy, I had to run faster image

Been taking the honey and lemon myself, it's nice and refreshing and is better than French coffee anyday....anyone cut out the booze totally before a race?  I don't drink much at all anyway, but any thinking of giving it a complete miss - any thoughts?

Enjoy the rest of the day.  Await news.

Eighteen weeks??? F**k!!! No doubt I'll panic & start asking foriegn travel questions nearer the date. Having never left Blighty before, I'm more than a little nervous...

My Rome training schedule starts at the end of November. November is going to be a month of mud for me, with a X-Country league race, a X-Country 10K, and a X-Country Half Marathon in the pipeline, as well as a 'flat & fast' 10K near Stratford Upon Avon..

Like Singular Ladies Fun Bag, I've got to keep drinking the honey & lemon. However, at the same time I'll be swallowing Beechams flu capsules in an effort to get rid of the stinking cold that mugged me on Wednesday morning. No wonder I ran a Personal Worst time for a 5K on Tuesday evening. I have a slow run pencilled in for Saturday then I'll be taking my training runs slowly, one day at a time, to enable me to build up my fitness levels again.

Feet up on the sofa & watch another Doctor Who DVD methinks.

    18 weeksimage

I've still to do my program but i'll be following a 16 week schedule so i've a couple of weeks yet.I want to do another 350 miles this year so having a program to follow makes it easier. There is talk of a 46 mile run on Boxing day which i may do,just for the novelty. It's aparently very steady and more a social trip than a race.

I've got 2 xcountry races,a half marathon and a couple of 10k's as well as the clubs winter handicap races so i should be busy enough.

    Great splits Tricky.

According to my maths, the marathon is in 20 week and 3 days.

Howey - An ultra on Boxing Day....you must have an exceptionally easygoing family!

Tricky - really jealous of your NY mara. Let us know all about it, won't you? I've heard that you have to sit on the official buses for a few hours before being put in pens (anti-terrorism or something). Any truth in that rumour or not?

I am on the mend image I can run short distances with only mild discomfort. A riding accident that happened when I was 12 has caused all the problems apparently. My hips were out of alignment due to a ruined vertebrae. I have found a specialist sports therapist who is cracking me back into shape. I hope to be completely sorted by the start of my 14 week training schedule.

    Happy running everyone!

I was going to say precisely the same thing about dates Elizabeth. My plan for an 18 week schedule starts on Monday 14th November. Good wind up 1T!

Feel very fortunate to be going to NY for sure. I don't take it for granted that I can get a place or be able to afford to go. Very fortunate indeed. howdy, just a bit more training and you'll time qualify for these big events too.

Hopefully on an encouraging note for you Elizabeth, after biggering up my back through that accident this summer, running fast like in intervals was excruciating. In mid-August I had to stop in the middle of a HM because I was in so much pain with my back. Made 7 trips to the osteopath, did sensible non-stressful running and exercise cutback with the result today.... I ran intervals at the same speed as whenI was in my pre-Paris peak. And I really gave it welly!

No pain at all.... So grateful.

1T - just repeating the first 5 weeks of a programme to stretch it out to 18 weeks won't improve your running much. You won't be putting your body under the kind of stress that leads to adaptation (improvement). As I don't know you very well yet, maybe that doesn't bother you at all, but generally speaking most people like to go faster if they can..... Just a thought.

Good to hear your improving E.There's still plenty of time to be 100%.

I did my program and wondered why it ended in February.Cheers 1T.imageI'm getting plenty of miles in any way so starting a program won't change too much.I did 6.4 miles tonight and struggled. It's a hilly route and my legs were tired early on which means the speed work on Tuesday must have worked.I'm going to do 16/17 miles on Saturday again as i'm of to Alton Towers on Sunday.

Tricky - Good luck with NY. I ran it last year and it is a great experience! Make sure that you have some warm clothing that you are happy to throw away as you are hanging around for a good couple of hours prior to the start and it can be pretty chilly!

Couple of slow runs for me recovering from the back strain at Berlin. Feeling no pain in the area now so will begin to increase the workload. Got an 18 week plan starting on 14th Nov. Found out this week that I will be in San Francisco with work that week so going to try and do my first training run for Rome across the Golden Gate Bridge image

Morning all, I just did the 4 weeks per month etc to get around about time - for me that's good enough - thanks TD for the info, sadly I'm way over the hill to be getting faster or wanting to win..image.just taking part and getting round is good for me, and if it's at all possible to do it in a time resembling the last one, I'm a very happy girl.

Bought new trainers yesterday - OUCH...! they are just so pricey here, but will take them out on Monday for my short 5k as I have a 16k scheduled tomorrow and there is some life left in the old ones at the moment. Will break the news ones in gently and have got vaseline on oder from UK.  It's peeing down here and blowing a gale, so I'm glad it's a no run day.

Hope Alton Towers is a bundle of fun John.

    Get well soon E.

Good luck you all this weekend, and have a good trip to NY TD.  Await alll the news.

16.7 miles this morning. The same route as last week.I'll leave it for a while now as it can become tedious.32 miles for the week.I'm going to try to do at least 30 a week now.At the moment i'm enjoying the running so i'm trying to make the most of it.

I'll enjoy Alton Towers 1T.As long as it doesn't rain.I'm taking the grandkids so may not get on the big rides but i've done them all before.Spending time with them is just as much fun.
