First time at Thorpe, can only agree with what the others have said, decent size & water quality although turned up too late to swim and get bacon butty (even fluttering my eyelashes at the snack bar lady didn't work) so unfortunately the bacon butty lost out this time.
And I had the double pleasure of meeting Soupy & the legendary Dustboy.
Will defo be back there and hopefully not using a swan for sighting on next time!
I'm usually in my local lake by myself, 7am on Sunday morning and although it is Mytchett the pub isn't open at that time for coffee or food. AT least you have some company when you go at the weekend though
ITB - I don't have anyone to swim with at my local lake. Datchet is half way between me and The Lovely Gentleman, so if we swim together, we swim there
Soup - defo! . The Lovely Gentleman is otherwise engaged, so while the cat's away........
I can get there for 7.30am......dare I say what about a run or ride afterwards? I am a 3mile run down and 30mile bike ride down on this weeks plan so far I is such a norty girl!! Just don't tell my mentor for gawd sake.
Saffers - great minds think alike re run and bike as I was gonna suggest that. I have a short but fast sportive on Sunday so would prefer to avoid a bike, but happy for a 5k plod.
It will take me 90 mins to get there, so a 7.30 start suits me. Is this get there for 7.30am and spend 30mins faffing or is it 'in the water' at 7.30?
I shall bring my trainers then.....happy to see what Soupy wants to do with regards to timing. I was thinking 7.30am to get there then faff, not that I faff of course.
It's gonna take me an hour for the 1500m so I need to have started that by 8:15 to be on the safe side. Before then, I need to practice swimming with my legs raised but not kicking any harder.
At his age he has to work his way up to it! That's why he faffs!! I won't make it tomorrow and certainly wouldn't be running. Heel's still a tad sore and I've 5 1/2 weeks of enforced non running! I'll be in trouble if I even think about it apparently!!
Enjoyed that. I had thought about doing 2 loops of the 1500m but chickened out and convinced myself it was tooooo far. Did one of the 1500m and then the 750m.....enjoyed it. No leaking goggles which was a bonus . Great company with Soupy and Schmunks and a lovely bacon buttie to finish.
I was a good girl though and did my 5k intervals when in. Knackered now but gotta cook for friends tonight. Looking forward to a few bevvies, be rude not to after working so hard today.

I think Trogs said that the 1500m is a bit short but the 400 and 750 is a bit long. Top lake though - I love it. Might go again at the weekend.

Trogs - don't encourage her!
Are we doing Mychett next week then?
And is anyone going to Thorpe Saturday morning?
I want to play at Thorpe Lake but can only get there at weekends.
And I feel like everyone is invited to the party, but not me.....
And then I imagine you all having a good time while I swim in my local lake all on my own.....
And my lake does not have a cafe so I cant console myself with a bacon roll.....
And then you all come on here and talk about it......
And then I feel even worse.....
And then I reach for the chocolate.....
And then I get fatter.....
So it's all your fault that I am fat
Schmunkee logic!

Happy to arrive at 7:30 but with minimal faff
7.30 with minimal faff - perfect.
I'll even take my trainers. There is meant to be a running trail which might be nice.
I've bricked it today already with a 30 mile and 15 min run.

hmmmm - feeling a lazy git for not running now. I might have to go out and plod.
Agree about a having a good morning's swim though. Even if Rick Kiddle does now always refer to me as Soup! I blame Dusty boy for that.
