Did my 90 min bike but just set out for my run and aborted, my toes giving my gip and more uncomfortable than it was at the weekend/monday.

Thinking sensible option is to give the running a miss for a couple of days, going to hop on the turbo for another 30 mins and leave it at that.

Will treat myself to any hours swim in the morning.

Great work on the two runs today Purple, doesnt matter about walking breaks in my opinion as long as youre getting the time on your feet and teaching those legs how to suffer.

Seren, did you go out again for anything else or lounge around with a towel around you all day as usual?

Still thats got nowt to do with a puncture. Good job you stopped him early.

Winds are meant to be dropping I think for tomorrow, certainly meant to be around here.

Lejog no thanks, have a great ride though Monimage

Chilliboy, thanks for the encouragement, ive lost it before so know I can do it again, ive been swinging between 14 & 17 stone for many years.  I think gettng the bit between my teeth and getting started is the hardest part, but this time I feel im already breaking bad habits etc.

Sounds like youre a pretty good cyclist, whats the furthest youve run before, are you getting some good longer runs (walk?) sessions in?

Seren, I could do 12th most possibly, though im doing the Hampshire Hilly Hundred 13th.  Good OW swim and reasonably longish bike the day before will make for a good monster weekend.

Assuming they have places at the HHH and you fancied it, perhaps we could find somewhere to camp and do both days together?

Right, must get on that turbo, it wont do itself image

Barley, my longest run at the moment is just over 10 miles ( 1hr 40mins) but that goes upto 2 hours on Saturday and adding 15 mins per week upto 3 hrs in the next 5 weeks.

My longest runs ever have been half maras never any more. I'm going to try and go with the run strategy in training upto that 3 hrs but on the day look for a run and walk through support area get food drink etc.

I've still got to build the bike up as well time wise. I'm only on the single though!!! Not like you nutters on the double ( roll on 2013!! )

Just spoken to my coach and the plan for the weekend is :

    1) Friday - 10 hrs on the bike broken down into 5 laps of 1:45 riding 15 min rest.

    2) Sat/Sun Rest image

    3) Monday - 12 hours running broken into 12 laps of 4 miles. Each lap takes an hr, run/walk a loop to home and then rest until the hour. Each lap walk one of the miles. I plan to cover 50 miles over the 12 hours.

Hope the toe gets better quickly Barley. Have you tried taping it up?

Seren - be careful. Maybe set of later if the weather is really bad?

Chilliboy - my longest run for a single was 15 miles, never ran more than that

Debbo - the guy that's coaching me is an ultra runner, he used to be a cyclist. He mostly trains people in Ultras and IM's. He has trained one other for a double but they were uber fit and uber fast. I think he wondered what he'd taken on when I contacted him. I had to explain that Pirates were a little different to the traditional athletes image

Its great to get the support of other pirates on this thread. It helps massively imageimage

I am in general enjoying the challenge of the double but I have also cried more in the last six weeks than for a long time !

anyone know how Monique is doing ?

haven't heard anything yet......i think in these conditions it will be better training but much less fun for her.......

I am enjoying the journey as well purple.......even with all the worries of dodgy knees etc.....

I have decided to pack the car so efficiently that if i come acropper part way down i will be able to fit me and bike into car......

to do my longest cycle ever........a long way from home on strange roads and in the dark.......is going to be a challenge and i think i need a safety plan.....after yesterdays ride.....

    so much more to do........

It's good that you have a back out plan. You are asking a lot of yourself so don't feel bad if you have to use your back up.

There will be plenty more opportunities for long rides

like 7 days later when i have to cycle back image

Seren - did you keep hold of my mobile number? I'll leave my phone on overnight tonight.  If you encounter any problems anywhere near to me please don't hesitate to call, whatever time it is, I won't mind.  I'm sure you won't need me but I'm happy for you to have lots of back up plans.

I'm starting my ride at 5 tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you

Enjoy the ride, get yer thermals out for the morning!!

Did 2800m in the pool this morning, any thought of biking this afternoon bit the dust with garage door shopping and our Maude having to work and me ending up with the kids. Hopefully out tomorrow morning with my bro in law and a couple of his mates who are training for La Marmotte in France come July.
