My Royal Parks Half racepack was waiting for me when I got home . Bright yellow techi shirt made of 55% bamboo charcoal & 45% recyled polyester. I'm surprised they can make anything fabric out of charcoal. New style chip too. It's on the back of my running number. Looks like a small sheet of metal with a framework of foam stuck over it.
I like those newer chips RLTW - the first time I saw one of those was the Dublin Marathon in 2008. I think they are much less faff than the ones that go round your laces, but I prefer the ones that go around your ankle.

I've had others that are on the running number, but usually a sort of wire that goes round it.
Some fab race reports, have really enjoyed reading them. Hopefully I will have shaken off this lurgy in time for number 4 in 2013!!
RLTW - an introduction for you - am a 38 ( just today ) married mum of one living in North Tyneside. Have one pace - plod - and am very proud of my ability to maintain a 10 min mile, even when I feel like I am flying!
Really looking forward to sharing in this year's build up with everyone. Love a bit of white noise!
I like those race numbers with the timing devices stuck on the back on them - really don't understand thr Velcro round the flexing ankle.
I'm with you Mr K, although I had an ankle chip 2 weeks ago with was on a soft neoprene strap and that was fine and didn't chafe.
Fingers crossed for you mr sj.
Drew- did you win your race?
Sprintfinish might be surprised to learn that several of the regulars on the 2012 forum didn't even run the GNR this year and I know I can't run it til 2014 due to work commitments, but I still be keeping up with the best forum til then.
Ive never wrote on this before (always chickened out) but have been having a spy for a few weeks on the previous thread.
Before i signed up for the GNR 2012 i had never ran before.. and rarely walked.. basically i was a lazy sod who took my car everywhere I thought being 5'3 and only 9st, i would be 'fit as a fiddle' and find training and the actual run a breeze but little did i know i couldnt even walk 1/4 of a mile without being out of breath.
I have a lovely supportive boyfriend who helped me through training and told me i could do it when i was having a bad run and crying in the middle of a busy street (yes this happened more than once) but after a while you need someone else's positivity ...
Then i found this thread... So basically i have come out of hiding and decided to post this message to say thanks. Thanks for supporting me without even realising. All your tips and stories of other runs youve participated in made me believe i could do this.
It took me 3 hours to do the GNR yesterday (i know i'm not Mo Farah and im no where near what some of you great runners got) but im immensly proud of myself for achieving this. Ive gone from stopping after 1/4 of a mile in January to running half a marathon in September.

Hey, Steve.
Good to see you too
Thought i'd join in for a bit. Just changed my name but it seems somebody has got my name, cheeky s*d!
Howay man. I have to read 5 pages of race reports now. Can't you all post a bit slower.
I wonder if Drew will be joining us?
Evening all
Nope.
'bout time you joined us, you're certainly one of the gang
But now we have to remember who "cioccsport" is !
Evening, Vixx
rofl @ Drew. Now be careful what you say; we don't want to scare potential newbies who don't know you well enough to get your humour yet !
That's great Mr sj - fingers crossed for good news tomorrow.
Great news mr sj!
Evening XL man and Drew
Pitched up at 9am in Newcastle-under-lyme and couldn't find the start area.
They're moving the venue for next year's GNR, Drew, to Newcastle, NSW.
Looking for flights now XL
When is it?
You have to remember that the seasons are reversed, so Autumn for them is March/April. Which isn't very long, I guess.
Post race celebrations at the Witchettygrub & Lettuce
LOL

Any news on next years date....will accept rumours :
Mr K, on Saturday Great Run tweeted 'only 365 days till the Great North Run 2013' so it must be 15th September
Think I just saw Dasher Dart doing the warm-up (am watching the whole thing).
Hi Mr K - how are you feeling today?
Could we have it on my birthday?
(April)
I spotted myself at the beginning but deleted the program by mistake. Fool.
Did everyone do the mexican wave ? It looked fab I never do the warm up exercise stuff but i did do the wave.

Bugger, Everton have scored.....
I'm in for 2013 and 2014...barring injury

WELL DONE NEWBIEABBEY!
How great that you did it! That's fantastic to get from your start point in January too
I hope you (and everyone else) will have been wearing your medal with pride today!
The photo of where I wore mine is on FB.....for those who can see it.
WELL DONE TO EVERYONE who ran yesterday!
