Today was my last "long run" managed 8 miles. It was a lot warmer today and vey windy. The kind that totally stops you from moving so I gave up. Figured it wasn't worth the effort now to do more.
Probably spot on Fiona - mine was just sunshine and a light breeze and it seemed a shame not to carry on in that. I actually had shorts on for the first time in 2013 and a short sleeved shirt with no base layer underneath.
Good running Fiona and BP - BP, you got the best of the running weather, as it was blowing a hoolie up here today.
Put some washing on the line before I left for my run as I knew it would be dry by the time I got back. However, 3/4 of a mile in it started to rain, so I turned round and came back home and brought the washing in and got my baseball cap so I could see where I was going. Set out again and before long the rain stopped and the sun was cracking the pavements. I mean, seriously ... !
So for parts of my run it was baking hot, and for parts it was ridiculously windy and with the odd rain shower thrown in for good measure.
I have to say I was shattered though ... having managed 3 mid-week runs of 5, 8 and 5 at MP or faster, I could barely plod my way around my 12 miles today on tired legs and feet. So knackered now! I doubt the wind helped, mind.
Shielsy - you had rain? None on my side of the Tyne although it looked like it was going to the whole way round. Good drying day tho' cos south warmer. Sadly I have no outside drying facilities at the mo so still on the clothes drier.
I'm also totally exhausted and I only ran 8 miles. Must be the wind as you say.
8 miles for me today and although ive run in far worse wind, today was just a massive struggle, pace never went below 8 min mile and just wanted to get home.
Thats 2 runs in a week now that ive really struggled with and not really sure why, just total lack of energy and no desire to dig deep and get on with it, 5k race on sunday may be a problem !
I'd forgotten how much I loved this part of a Marathon training schedule - going out for a little 5 mile jog at whatever pace suits and not been being bothered. It also helps that it was 19oC and sunny.
Been at the marathon Expo today and its all getting very exciting. Martin Yelling gave a very inspirational talk while I was having my pasta and i saw David Wear too. They've given everyone a small piece of black ribbon and a pin for our vests which will how great solidarity if all 37,000 runners wear them.
Fiona, last time I started on green the loo queues were so bad I only had time to go once and had to make use of a portaloo at mile 12. Get there early!
CC2 - I can't say I found it that bad last year, but maybe I was just in the queue early enough. For the Guinness stuff, I need to be there before 8:45 so will just join the queue after that. In Edinburgh the queues were quite long for the loo although there were plenty.
I see that there is a new parkrun starting in South Shields on Saturday. Is anyone thinking of going?
Best wishes to everyone doing the VLM and any other racese this weekend. I am intending to record as much of the VLM (main and red button coverage) to see if I can spot any of the local runners that are doing it - perhaps I can pick out the faces from this forum (that I am aware of) from the crowds too.
Shielsy- no, not showing off but it means I've got to make the most of the better start I should get. I don't want to waste all the effort of training for Abingdon to get the GFA place and then again over this last 4 months. Hopefully not too many people dressed as giraffes, rhinos or fridges to get past.
I remember the toilet queues being dreadful when i ran London in 2009, but I was lucky as my charity that year had the use of a hotel near the Blue start with proper toilets. Bliss . I certainly made the most of them before nipping into the pens.
7 miles tonight after work, half running into a headwind and half with the wind at my back being blown down the road. This blustery weather does not lend itself to trying to run at a nice steady pace! It was just the same on Tuesday night. Honestly, this has been such rubbish weather for trying to train for a marathon ... month after month of rubbish conditions!
I'm tempted to go to the South Shields' parkrun, but I'm supposed to be doing slow runs from now on and I don't trust myself to not try and race it!

It doesn't bear thinking about.
The world is a crazy, crazy place.
When I caught the footage of the explosion on the news I was sick to the pit of my stomach.
Really sad news.
I can't believe it. I just sickens you that there are people out there who can do such acts. Why is it always the good people that get hurt?
Some so called human beings are so sick it is unbelievable - thoughts out to families and friends od dead and injured
I was on nights last night as the news broke so could only see bits of it, and without sound. Just awful.

I'll be there Friday! Can't wait!
Where are you starting from OS?
Vixx- Red, good for age . And you?
Good luck to everyone running London - weather looks good
Blue - ballot runner
Thanks Bear
Green start for me. Means a lower person to toilet ratio.

Is that your category OS, or are you just showing off?
I'm getting so excited for everyone running London. I hope the wind disappears before then and you get great running conditions.
Looking forward to hearing all about it from everyone when you get back.

Thanks for the heads up about Shields Parkrun Bob,Ive just looked at the course and it will be brutal on a windy day
Bob - if youre avatar is really you then you would be easy to spot! Mind you so would I.
songecake - parkrun is now a registered trade mark and it is "AOWALC".
