(Not so) easy week leading up to the Outlaw Half - been trying not to taper too much as it's 'only' a practise race for the big one, so I'll probably be a little tired before I even start (getting the excuses in early!). Looking forward to it though, got a short run tomorrow and then it's a big carb fest until Sunday!
Crooky there are a few if us from a FB group called Ironman Journey going to Flash then doing a loop on Saturday. You seem to be local, not sure if you're already a member of the group but if not am sure it is all comers welcome
IB cheers for the offer of the ride but can't make on sat
i will be at the flash though, you will see me pirate swim cap and the one everybody is overtaking
OW swimming at Box End yesterday, sighting a little off and managed to beach myself in the middle of the lake which was a little disconcerting but funny...looked like I was walking on water.
Back at it after taking an enforced rest day yesterday due to my eye injury. Took it easy to start with and ended up doing 66 hilly miles in the 4 hour Fink bike slot and a 3.5 mile run straight off. Eye still streaming but much more comfortable today.
First real set back of Outlaw training today, set out for 150k, 20k up on last week, by 20k it felt like cycling through treacle and by the cafe stop at 80k I was struggling to climb a 8-10% hill in the 36/26 gear. Got a lift back with the family. Dreadful, real pangs of doubt now. On the plus side I have a great comedy tan line on one arm.
Chalk it up to a bad day in the office Graeme and put it behind you. Take a rest day tomorrow - or at least stay off the bike - and hopefully you'll be fine next time out.
long ride planned tomorrow.... will take the TT bike in full IM set up, including Profile aero bottle.... which I don't enjoy doing, a it looks a bit 'all the gear, no idea"!
which is mainly true in fairness
lets be honest.... its all prep for an Ironman on my 100th birthday
Did coniston olympic yesterday, nice lumpy course great prep for bala next Sunday! Coniston lake was very nice! Knocked 4 mins of my 1500m time (my first competitive OW swim) roll on IMUK
72 miles into my planned century and I flatted.... with tubs on, and couldn't get the valve extender off to fit onto the spare... had to call for rescue!
Still, 72 miles is better than nowt, and it was rather lovely out there!

Swim in the Flash yesterday, followed by a loop of the course. Lovely weather for it. Ran today but seem to have picked up a bit of a cold and was knackered after 7 miles. Going to have a rest tomorrow. Looking forward to Bala next week, what's the bike course like compared to Bolton? Hope this cold goes quick
HM last weekend, not very clever but plantar playing havoc with run training. 4k swim on Tuesday in 1.37. 40 mile bike Wed, just under 2 mile OW on Friday and finally 75 mile bike yesterday.
Full distance swim and bike pencilled in for next week. Moment of truth
What a race yesterday at Coniston that is deffo the toughest half IM out there a really great local race but 3 hours 20 mins for the run :-0 and I wasn't hanging about
And I met Chris boardman and Ned Boulting out on the bike course

Thanks Red Stripe I hope your training is going better than mine - swimming and cycling ok but still can't run.

First 3k OW this morning, Taking it steady and came out of the water in a little under the hour. Very happy with that
AT is not a course for dodgy feet ...
Except for one stretch of about 100m on lovely soft pine needles - shortly after the bike turning circle from memory
94 miles on the bike today, get back and the sun comes out for the afternoon! Ah well, enough sport on the TV to keep me occupied
2 mile for me at the flash today

Graeme, it's just one ride, move on and learn. You can start worrying if it becomes a consistent problem
we've all been there
Get over it Max (literally)
