Did a nice 7 miler tonight, 11 miles planned for tomorrow night, football on Thursday and then hopefully I can reach the big '2 0' milestone at the weekend with a 20 mile easy paced run (longest run I've EVER done), scheduled for Sunday.
I've done most of my LSRs at events this summer, at training paces and it has worked well. Definitely beats slogging out the miles on my own and having to carry water/do loops near home or shops. And I'd say it's helped me hit the target paces given that in FIRST the LSRs are not so slow!
I won a place in Chester whilst at the London Expo. Didn't do well in London due to IBS issues, but am hoping to do better in glorious Chester. I am trying for a sub 5 hour, I'm a slower runner - but someone's got to be.
We have less than 9 weeks and I've only got one big training run in so far - 15 miles. The weather has thwarted any other long runs - I've been doing 7's and 8's and running most days so I'm hoping this is a sufficient base and I'll start ramping up the long run from now.
I signed up for this...the day before an 18 week training schedule would have to start! Impulsive much? I'd been talking about it with friends on the Sunday and by the evening I was in. I'd said I wouldn't ever do another after Windermere, but this year, in a bid to make meaningful improvements for a change, weekly mileage has progressed into natural marathon territory. I don't regret the decision, loving the training at the moment. For those of your on an 18 week stint, you're over half way down! Congrats.
I don't suppose anyone knows what sports drinks/gels they're using on the day yet? I don't want to be "that guy" and email them the same question they've already had a dozen times. Maybe it'll be the same as last year? I wouldn't mind a dry run with whatever they're providing, especially since I've never used gels before.
Hi HillLee , Im also a slower runner but definitely faster than my sofa The plan I'm following hasn't had massive miles as yet but a few 10 milers and plenty of intervals , LSR this wknd is 16 so not much different from what you are doing . Good luck.
Could be an answer - based on what others have said in the past, for all it's worth may as well just take a couple of gels in a belt, saves getting caught in the tidal wave round aid stations. They're the only things I may have an aversion to, but with sports drinks I can't see having much of a problem anyway I guess...must stop being a control freak!
I'd written down: (but can't remember where I'd got it from)
Isotonic = Locozade sport elite
Gel = Lucozade sport elite + caffeine (citrus)
#1 (3.2 miles) - Water
#2 (6.1 miles) - Water + Isotonic
#3 (9.3 miles) - Water + Gel
#4 (12.1 miles) - Water + Isotonic
#5 (14.9 miles) - Water + Gel
#6 (17.8 miles) - Water + Isotonic
#7 (20.1 miles) - Water + Gel
#8 (22.1 miles) - Water + Isotonic
#9 (24.1 miles) - Water + Gel
((fingers crossed the formatting stayed on the above))
Cheshirecat: if you're there early I'm in the 9.30 start, do wave/say hi, I'm number 42R146, I wear glasses, accompanied by a redheaded boyf (who's doing the 21k). You'll likely be gone home by the time I finish.
HeatherS thanks for that, I think I will be fine mileage wise as long as I can control my IBS It's good being a slow runner, just means we are out there longer and meeting more people.
Good luck everyone, enjoy your LSR's this weekend x
Hi all , well done Hilly awesome job great pace . Ran yesterday 16.36 miles and a lot slower than that !! Swapped yesterday's intervals for run after seeing weather forecast and did 40 mins intervals on treadmill today.
A real mixture of rain, wind, mud and sun at the Salisbury event today. Had a good day out but wasn't quite what I was expecting for an August marathon!
Why BP ? sounds like you have been running well. I'm having a wobble myself ...just back from 6 miler and seem to be going slower than ever , lungs were rubbish. Really don't want to run my worst half in two wks time. Fortunately as my first mara I don't have a time to beat ! Trying not to think too much about it at mo just taking each long run as it comes ...just slight panic before !!

oh, nearly forgot to mention, bleep test tonight! oh joy!!
Fingers crossed...
Bleep tests exist outside of school. !??!!
yes natty, and it showed how un fit I am...
6 miles tonight and tomorrow with a 30km race on sunday. Should go along way towards the training. Does beat going that far as a raining run.

You're not at Salisbury perchance?

Anyone else ventured outdoors this weekend?

Gd job McTamus... 4 mins faster than me !!
any one else doing race the train next week?
Considering doing the Fleetwood half marathon as a warm up. Anyone done this one before?
Hi McTamus , looked at that one but decided on Severn Bridge.
Ps ....purely on locality
Nope, I'm doing Thames Meander as my predictor. (and Reigate at marathon pace)
is it time to panic yet?
Training was going a treat until a sprained ankle Had hoped to build on last weekends good race but sadly it a few days off.
Someone mention panic ??
I am starting to panic a bit HeatherS!!
