Good to see many familiar names from last year's autumn thread and this year's spring thread. It looks like I'm first off with the Kent Coastal Marathon on 7 September. third time with p & d for me. A great success at Chester in October 2013, followed by a poor result at London 2014.
I've quite recently finished mesocycle 5 from London, and am aiming for a modified 12 week, as I don't have time for 18 weeks and won't be able to train for two weeks in late July and early August. My target time is 3:35, which is slower than last yeaR, but I'm really struggling with pace at the moment!
Will be doing the easy/GA runs as doubles to and from work and will also be dropping the recoveries in favour of x training (Spin Bike) to try and keep the Achilles issues at bay, but will be doing the mlr's and lsr's from the 70-85 schedule. That's the plan anyway.
Nice to see so many familiar faces on here, bring it on!! Chester is looking favourite, although I am trying to get a bib for Frankfurt and have also got an eye on Nice-Cannes, which is in November so may be a really good back up/fun run with a weekend away with the missus!!
Mennania, trading a recovery run for a spin session sounds like a pretty good workout. I'll be adding a one day GA run commute to ramp up mileage and a bit more MP on my long runs. Just for a laugh obviously.
Marrows - I think it will peak around 70 for a week or so but imagine most weeks will be high 50s or low 60s, which will be not dissimilar to my last campaign, but hopefully will be of a higher and more specific quality. I also intend to hunt out more 5k-10 mile races and use them as vo2/LT sessions, ageing body permitting and also intend to spend more time at MP during my MLR and LSRs.
I have never managed two marathons in a year due to injury, but am hopeful to string three together finishing at VLM next spring
I've been changing my mind like the wind with this summer's running schedule. I was going to be running doubles 3 times a week with run commutes with a weekly mileage of 70-80mi/wk, but after a trial run have decided to drop the double to once a week and have lowered weekly mileage to about 60-70mi/wk as don't really want too tired all summer!
Westy - I have got a couple booked in. The Chester half/Mara organisers do a sport in the port on 15th June which is either 5k or 10k and then there is Rhyl Run Fest on 29th June which is super flat (3m per mile gain) and they are offering 5 and 10k, half or full so was going to do the full but due to Chester not going right for me am focussing on a sub 1.20 for the half there.
andrews - I'm regretting it as well - thats why i have to sign up for these events or i will never do any running. 12 week plan for me so a couple of months easy running
On one part am greatly looking forward to starting the plan in less than 3 weeks time for the structure it gives, however not sure my legs are going to appreciate me starting the plan so soon again We will all see I guess.
The Running Tortoise: you seem like you've got the write plan a few months easy running till you start
I am currently running like a 3 legged donkey and it feels really hard work, and i am hating it more than ever and just want to keep stopping and give up. This has all started since VLM 5 weeks ago - could it be
a) serious lack of running (only averaging 16 miles a week for last few weeks?
b) extra 6llbs weight from bulking up? (or knackered from weights)
c) knackered from 2 marathons in previous 3 months?
d) phyciological from having a mare at london?
I have not felt this crap for probably 2 years. any advice like have a few weeks off or up the training or give up and take up another activity?
Wenty, I think that it's a combination of all 5 to be honest. I know that I haven't got that nice feeling of 'flow' back into my legs just yet, but it'll come in time. If I was you I would just ramp up the miles slowly until you're around the 40 mile mark and then throw in some strides to loosen things up.
Don't forget that you added a few sneaky faster sessions throughout your previous training phase that should really be added as a new point 'e)' above .
yeah but Fergy, I have just done 6 miles and felt knackered all the way round. It was like when i was first running a few years ago. I'm knackered now as well! (I did do hills on Sunday obviously )
Wenty/Tortoise (Wenty was soooo much easier to type!) - are you eating and drinking? I find if I don't eat and hydrate properly it can affect even my easy runs.
Wenty - I got the top half of my legs back last week, the bottom half are still not playing nicely though. I must admit the forced exertion of the 5k last Friday did help to shake out the cobwebs a bit. Easy running is not as easy as the name would suggest.

Menn - interested to hear how that works out. What do you reckon the weekly mileage will be?

I wrote the plan out last night. Regretting it already.
Haha Andrews, when do you start it and have you made any changes from last time?
andrews - I'm regretting it as well - thats why i have to sign up for these events or i will never do any running. 12 week plan for me so a couple of months easy running
TRT and Andrews I'm actually looking forward to starting the plan as have had no real focus post London and feel a bit in limbo at the moment.
On one part am greatly looking forward to starting the plan in less than 3 weeks time for the structure it gives, however not sure my legs are going to appreciate me starting the plan so soon again We will all see I guess.

Any advice from you seasoned pros out there!!!!!

Slowly slowly catchy monkey and all that.
yeah but Fergy, I have just done 6 miles and felt knackered all the way round. It was like when i was first running a few years ago. I'm knackered now as well! (I did do hills on Sunday obviously )
I expect probably a combination too Wenty. Take between 3 and 7 days off, recharge your batteries, and then try again.
I did a 6mi recovery run today and felt knackered afterwards too. To be expected. Hopefully tomorrow will feel more recovered.
Are we all here - or on our way?
Wenty/Tortoise (Wenty was soooo much easier to type!) - are you eating and drinking? I find if I don't eat and hydrate properly it can affect even my easy runs.
And don't forget that the arrival of the balmy nights crank up the required effort level considerably
True dat, Fergster - a small rise in temperature ramps up the degree of difficulty massively for me
Wenty - I got the top half of my legs back last week, the bottom half are still not playing nicely though. I must admit the forced exertion of the 5k last Friday did help to shake out the cobwebs a bit. Easy running is not as easy as the name would suggest.
Balmy nights?! You'll be lucky.
Hmm just take it easy and wait for it all to come flooding back then... Simples.
Thanks people (I think I will take westy's advice and take a week off ) Sounds more fun then ramping the miles up!
