Four days with no running and then only getting out for two miles this afternoon. (That's the sort of week I'm having, but looking forward to having some family visiting soon.)

All the best to you all for this festive season.

Well I made it up to Manchester and I even managed a parkrun today. I went with Chadderton Hall, a small one I'd not done and chose for its hard paths as I don't have the right shoes for mud. I made it around OK, albeit slowly, but was also delighted to tick off one of my remaining two stopwatch bingo numbers. One left!

    YTD: 1296

Managed a 2hr long run the other day which brought my total nearly to target but parkrun at Mallards Pike tipped me over the edge. Logging trail run which goes uphill for 2.5k and then downhill for 2.5k as a loop rather than out and back. Great course if you are in that neck of the woods...

Hope everyone has a great Christmas 🎄🎅

Cal: enjoy Manchester. I lived there 30 years ago, loved it. Mothers family are from thereabouts. I also feel at home there. I've been to parkrun this morning, bit more below, but picking up on your last post, I now know what 'parkrun bingo' is.

Wabo: hopefully you'll be with us from January. Good luck in the final week of the year.

Christmas bit detailed here. OH started to be unwell last night. Sick multiple times. Visit to family abandoned, two of us here, one of whom is ill and doesn't want to eat anything. I'm planning to live on trifle today.

Been at parkrun this morning. 291 at sandall park, Doncaster. It's become one of my favourite moments of the year. Muddy, loads of fancy dress and a generally lovely spirit.

Parkrun plus one 5 mile run to add.

Happy Christmas, all! Woodbank parkrun in Stockport today - mostly good quality path but had one short muddy stretch I had to tiptoe across, and a steepish downhill which slowed me down as I'm rubbish at downhills. Thankfully I'm better at uphills as there was one of those too. 32:47 so still slow but I'm still dealing with a cold and shingles so time is unimportant.

    Happy Christmas, everybody!

Cal... 1299 miles!? Well done on persevering. Get (properly) well soon!

Donnie... Sorry about your situation. Hope things get back to normal, soon. You'll soon be passing 1300 miles!

    Wabo...almost there!

Dubai...Good to have you around. All the best for the new year!

Hobie...You must be over the 1000 miles now?! (998 yesterday...)

No running for me; lots of family visiting, and still more to arrive in the next couple of days...! Not getting any easier to get out, but looking forward to trying out my new Cumulus shoes outside! (Currently wearing them in the house!)

Enjoy the final week of 2023.
Looking forward to tackling 2024 with everyone here (and may be some new names???)
Thanks for all the encouragement through the last 12 months!

Yes, Woodbank is a tough parkrun, Cal! Especially the part down into Vernon Park; I used to live about twenty metres from there and never found running easy. Chadderton Hall is also deceptively tough, but I did enjoy it despite the hills...and the snow when I did it!

Chester parkrun for the first time on Saturday (brother lives nearby and it was a good way to exchange presents). I don't do parkrun on Christmas Day: catering duties!

Yesterday's hour or so took me over 2000 km for the year (and 100 miles for December) and only now need 16k to get to 2023k in 2023.

    YTD: 1247 miles

Hope Hobie has reached the 1000!
Progress is rarely a straight line. There are always bumps in the road, but you can make the choice to keep looking ahead.

Not very nice out there today 😳

Another 12 to add from yesterday and today - really shouldn’t run after drinking the night before 😁

Thank you Dangeroushamster, MrC and Donnie.

Good to see everyone had at least a half decent Christmas - the family had a quiet one without Sandeep but we reflected on the good times we all had in the past.

    21/12 - 8.33
    23/12 - 9.47 (some extras after parkrun)
    24/12 - 10.68
25/12- 7.66 (including Christmas Day parkrun)
    27/12 - 8.32

    YTD = 2121.18 miles

Will try to do another 26.28 miles before the New Year so my Km total can reach 3456km - yes, I am a bit nerdy like that.

    Nice one Hobie,
Donnie think I'll be here 2024
Miles at 980 now. It will be tough the next 4 days, my mum is staying so I feel a bit guilty when I swan off for a run but she knows how I am about running
Harmander the best kind of nerdie!

Wabo, you are so close you must be able to taste it!

Hobie, congrats! That is an epic effort, especially so given the elevation and terrain you tackle on a regular basis.

MrC, I know the feeling re: a few drinks the night before. It certainly is a tough time of year to juggle running with socialising, eating and drinking.

Alehouse, congrats on the 2000km. I think that will be my target for next year.

Harmander, epic numbers mate. I am in awe.

I did a half this morning, the first 7km flat, the second 7km hill repeats and the final 7km flat again. Very overcast and drizzly at times. But anything beats the hot summer sun on your back. This brought up my revised target for the year - 1700km - with one run left in the tank.

    Hang in there, Wabo!
Well done everyone on your mileages!
4 miles today so I'm just over the 1300 now. That'll do. I did plan to do 6 as my cold is more or less gone and the shingles has calmed down but my calves were burning! I guess two hilly parkruns after an 8 day break will do that.

Jack I would be happy if I tasted it just a bit more 🤣🤣
    Excellent work Jack
I'm at 985 now and today's run was one where my legs really moaned. They got easier though.
Cal oh my goodness how have you done that when you've been poorly!! Amazing.

Congrats on 1300, Cal. With all those ailments, I would have a few days off now and get myself right for Jan 1 for a decent start to the year.

Good luck, Wabo. You are almost there.

Cal: well done. Great annual mileage given the ups and downs of the year.

Jack: good test underway at the Big G. As we've said a little while ago, hopefully one day I'll be there. Like the half you did into three separate 7 km sections with a goal for each.

Wabo: 3 x 5 and you're there. Touching distance. Home straight.

Hobie: the thread is about running a 1000 miles in 2023. You've done it. Well done.

2 runs since Christmas day. Usual 5 mile loop and then 7.1 tonight in an hour. Given family commitments, think park run on Saturday will be my only remaining outing this week.
