My 5th, cos the Cheltenham Circular Challenge didn't count. The 'circle' was 25.6 miles. They did give instructions for people who wanted to do Mara distance, something like 'go down to that fence & back', but it seemed a bit artificial at the time. I did run home though!
It's mainly a walkers' event but welcomes runners too. Last year I only saw 4 other runners, overtaking three and teaming up with the other for the final quarter. I recently asked the organisers if they could do a mass start for runners this year and they've agreed.
I recommend the event, the course is great - past Cheltenham racecourse, up onto the Cotswold scarp, down and up again, then across meadows, past the airfield, through old hamlets and back (through a field of beans last year) to where you started.
I'll start a thread when the organisers have finalised arrangements. It's on 19th June, the same day as the Mont St Michel marathon but I'll be doing CCC again.
I didn't do London in '97 so I don't see why it should count!! Of course it should count. I've heard there are some people who only do a marathon every other year or so.
Cheltenham CC sounds good - will it be a marathon distance this year ? 19/6 is also date for Blackpool and Dartmoor Vale Marathons, its also West Highland Way weekend - no laps just 96 miles..
By the way, you complained about Oldbury being like a training run - I'd have talked to you for the last couple of miles if you hadn't overtaken me! I guess you were after sub five hours too - only difference was you succeeded!
Nigel - do you know about the Cleevewold Race on 20 March - 14m or so over and around Cleeve Common, which presumbly is the same area as the Cheletenham Challenge - it's a really good/tough off-road run - see Cheltenham Harriers www. for more details.
Nigel - CCC looks like a nice alternative to Blackpool, is route difficult to follow ?
Yes, made the sub 5, though my target was to run the last 5 in same time as previous 5 - got close, was 14 secs slower. You would have been most welcome to run in with me. Matt - is this where we migrate to Draycote ?
Boy Wonder, Now that MOBlite isn't on that weekend I'm going to do Compton Downland Challenge on the Sat. After 40 miles I doubt whether I'll manage Cleevewold's 14 miles on the Sunday! Although I suppose 54 in a w/e isn't that different from MOBlite's 52.
Gil, for Cheltenham Circular Challenge you get a booklet of instructions. These are fairly easy to follow and are supplemented by the occasional arrow pointing the way. There are 3 water stations.
You say 'You would have been most welcome to run in with me.' You'd have had to use a whip!
The Cleavewold 14 is a tough one. I ran it last year. There are some very steep climbs. Can anyone rate the compton downland challenge? I am thinking of running that one. Anyone know of any good marathons in the next month or so?
Nigel - thanks for the Cheltenham info - just been on their site - marathon is mentioned/entry form is available at a bargain £5. ALL - anyone done the SEVEN OAKS CIRCULAR its 30miles on 20/3,another bargain at £5, finishing times shown as 5hrs 45 to 10hrs 35. http://www.kent-ldwa.fsnet.co.uk/
Does anyone know if there is a website that we can view the pictures taken at oldbury 30? I can only find the results. And did anyone record marathon times?

As they've only recently made the decision to have a mass runners start I don't think it is mentioned on the website yet.
I reckon there is just over 500 metres of up (& down) on the course.
