Did you buy bigger sizes though Hegs or maternity versions?

    >whispers< i've bought some disposable maternity knickers to put in my hospital bag. they are so glam!

other than that, i'm still wearing the same knickers that i was pre-pregnancy in the same size. they are just briefs, so they don't come up very high. won't be any good if i end up having a c-section, though - hence the maternity knicks.

what is the difference between maternity briefs and ordinary briefs? the ones that don't cover your bump look exactly the same to me, so i'm not sure why anyone would buy the maternity ones because surely they are just more expensive? obviously, the ones with bump support are different, but i'm not sure about the brief/thong style ones.

I continued to wear same size thongs, etc, but invested in some Marks & Spencers bikini pants in a size up from my normal size for post-delivery.

To be honest I didn't see the point of maternity briefs and I think Mr Hegs would have walked out if I had gone for the enormous over-the-bump in flesh tone knickers ;o) I also never felt the need for "bump support" since my bump was fairly neat and very low throughout.

Caramel - have you gone for the NCT net disposables? Apparently they are supposed to be the best. One of my friends bought 3 pairs and then couldn't bring herself to use them so gave them to me and I also couldn't bring myself to use them!! They are truly hideous but my friend and I had a good laugh trying them on whilst still pregnant....

My thoughts are that whilst they fill you with horror stories about the post-delivery bleeding, it is nowhere near as unmanageable as they make out (based on a survey of my friends and myself - am sure some people find it worse than others). Therefore, unless you have a c-section and want to go for something bigger & more comfortable, I think that ordinary bikini pants (in black!) do the job. I actually think that next time round, on the assumption that I have to have another c-section, I will try and get very low-rise bikini pants that will go below the cut.... I think I have a phobia of maternity pants!!

what a yummy subject for first thing on a Thursday morning....

absolutely lovely topic for a thursday morning!

my disposable maternity pants were a last minute purchase on monday when my husband announced that i should pack a hospital bag to take away to tenby next week, so i got them from boots. the reason i got them was that, if the baby does arrive while we are away, i don't really want to have to be dealing with manky pants when i'm not at home and don't have access to my normal laundry facilities.

i think there is a significant chance that these maternity pants will stay very firmly in the packet in which i purchased them, never to be opened! but, at least i have pants i can wear if i absolutely have to!

Must admit I bought disposable knicks last time....they are still in my draw unopened!!

I will use normal knicks and maternity pads again. That was adequate protection. I did also get some of those pampers mats to put in your bed, just incase.
  • Options
Goodness its so complicated isn't it. I may buy some knicks in a size bigger so can stay in my thongs and pretty knicks. Some of them are digging in a bit. Thanks girls!

Managed to get for a swim this morning so feeling rather chuffed with myself!

The disposable brief makers must rake in the cash with us all buying them and never using them!!
Good idea to get those pampers mats Clare - like the mats they have in the maternity ward.
Mitchie Moo - well done on your swim: you may find that gentle exercise helps with the nausea.

    >another confession< - i bought a waterproof mattress protector in dunelm mill on monday as well.

    eeek...

it's significantly advanced from the days of those rustly plastic sheets i had on my bed as a kid (my mum was obsessed with hygiene and bed mites!). it doesn't LOOK any different from an ordinary mattress cover and was about £10.

another thing - not sure whether it's just our dunelm mill, but they had LOADS of babies' and kids' bedding really really cheap in the sale, including little grobags for about £5. i'm sure they can be as good as the offical label ones, but on close inspection, it appears to have the same features and it's 2.5 tog, so not too heavy or anything. i bought one just as an extra in case of vomit/washing machine crises...

but there were loads of cheap sheets and blankets of all sizes for prams, cots, cot beds etc, and bedding for children as well which looked really sweet.
  • Options
sorry - that should have read 'i'm sure they CAN'T be as good as the official label ones'...
  • Options
I bet they are just as good Caramel. The Asda ones (£8-12) are definitely as good, and they are sooooo worthwhile as you don't need to fuss about the baby getting the covers over their head etc or getting too cold/ hot. My advice would be to have 2 - so that any accidents from top or bottom end can be catered for ;o)

Am learning to double everything you girls say. So thats 4 grobags then!

Thanks hegs, its just the getting out of bed in the morning that I've been struggling with, am only sick in the late afernoons/evenings now, and yes was fab to do something. Although am in desperate need of a new costume, so some more internet shopping this weekend! Noone would think I used to run 70-90 mpw and get up at 6am everyday and run in the evening. I keep waking up at 4am, lying awake for a bit then I feel exhausted come 7am. Guess its all getting me ready hey!
  • Options
mitchie moo - if you are anywhere near a dunelm mill, get yourself 4 of these grobags! at 20 quid, that's about the same as 1 of the 'official' label ones...

i'm not surprised you are feeling exhausted. your body is working INCREDIBLY hard to make these two babies of yours! and yes, i'm sure all this waking up and being exhausted is very good practice. i had another really rubbish night. i suppose i might have had about 5 hours' sleep in bits and pieces, which doesn't sound too bad but i feel absolutely grim.

still - tomorrow is my last day at work. woohooo!!! so i can then sleep all day if i want to (in theory!)

We are waiting for the carpets to be laid today in our upstairs rooms. This has meant Sadie, Toby and I all sleeping on matresses on the floor so the rooms could be cleared.

I have not slept too badly, but getting up for loo trips off the floor in the night have been more challenging!!

I called the fitters today to see what time they were arriving only to be told they had changed to tomorrow!! After a very firm, quite hormonal conversation with the manager it is back on for today. I do not think I could take another night on the floor (been there since sat) and I had moved work comittments to be here!!!

Anyway sorry rant over... on the sleeping front it has not been to bad. The main problem is waking with a numb or aching hip joint. Is anyone else suffering? I am trying pillows but not really helping

  • Options
Yes Clare, I find myself aching and end of tossing from one side to the other all night long, and I take my pillows with me of course. Poor hubbie will be moving out in a few months time I think, he already says that there isn't enough room for him!

How exciting DCM, I can't wait for that day, mine will be sooner than yours though. Would be good to survive to 30 or 32 weeks though.
  • Options
clare - oh dear. that does NOT sound good! fingers crossed that they turn up very very soon!

yes - i have had sore hips at night but only when sleeping on softer mattresses. when we were away in france, the mattress was very soft, and i was in agony at night. since i've been back home, it's been fine. if i go to sleep on the settee, however, i wake up with an aching hip, so i guess it's to do with the firmness of the surface i'm sleeping on.

Mitchie Moo - I got quite a good maternity swimming costume from Blooming Marvellous - not particularly glamourous but did the job.
Also, do you have many friends with babies? I would try to take advantage of as many secondhand clothes, grobags etc as you can as the twins will no doubt grow so quickly and cost you a fortune!
I have a friend who had twin girls 4 weeks after my son was born and I gave her all the premature baby suits in white that I had used for him. Also, I found that the best places for tiny/ premature baby clothes were Boots and Mothercare (given that you will almost certainly need them for your twins).

Thanks Hegs, was looking at their cossies yesterday. I never have glamorous cossies anyway so not worried.

We have had offers of quite a lot of stuff, also seem to be getting two of lots of things, two moses baskets, two baby gyms, and lots of clothes, so doing quite well so far. We are going to go looking for buggies and cots but not buy anything till they are born, except car seats I guess! Call me superstitious!

Also thanks for tips on premie stuff. Still scares me silly thinking about it all!

Be interested to know what you girls are eating, am sure am eating loads but am so hungry all day, and if I don't eat it makes me sick.

    Today have had:

5am half all bran cereal bar
8am after swim. Oat crunchy cereal with 2 nectarines and a banana
    10am all bran cereal bar
    11am 2 carrots
12.30pm large homemade salad with 2 eggs and new potatoes
    1.30pm Yoghurt bio low fat
    2.30pm 5 dried apricots
    3.30pm cinnamon and raisin bagel

Will probably have to eat something else around 6pm as tea not till 8pm when hubbie gets in.
8pm Fish portion with oven chips and beans (unhealthy evening as no food in)

Is this a lot, or do you think its OK.

mitchie moo - that's all so healthy! and it doesn't look too much to me!

if you are hungry and you feel sick if you don't eat, you don't have much choice but to eat, and everything you are eating is healthy so i'm sure you have nothing to worry about!
  • Options
    Mitchie Moo

I'm a big believer in eating if you are hungry. Your body has a way of telling you what you need and when - there are only problems if you eat when bored/depressed etc. which isn't the situation here.

I'd just relax - you're eating very healthily, so I don't see anything to worry about. Just enjoy!
  • Options
Mitchie Moo - I'm with Caramel and Loz here.
U must eat when you are hungry.
And what you are eating looks ultra healthy and balanced.
The biggest prob. with hunger at odd times of day is snacking on wrong types of food.
Choc and crisps etc. have high release sugar content leaving you wanting more of the same in about an hours time, etc.
Eat things that are good storage foods, which you seem to be doing anyway.
Well done + stop beating yourself up.

Loz - I'm looking fwd to moving to Thame and will be lovely to know you are only up road in Newbury - especially when we've both sprogged by end of year.

I think i've asked this question before, but did any of you wear underwired bras when pregnant and did they do you any harm. My boobs have mushroomed again and goodness knows what size i am now, probably a HH or J cup. Thing is the only bras i can find in that size non-wired are pretty gross and most dig into my underarms, however Bravissimo has quite a few pretty styles that are underwired and go up to J cup. Am i going to do any damage wearing underwired bras ??

Hey folks I really am pregnant which puts to rest the silly doubts I had before I went to the doctors!

I am fairly new to my area so I picked the doctor randomly out of the phone book. To my relief he is extremely nice and I feel like I am in good hands.

He gave me a scan which calcluated that I am now 9 weeks gone which is what I thought. The little thing is 21mm. I could see its tiny heart pumping away...wow!

It's a relief. I have my next appointment in 3 weeks (kind of obligatory in Austria) which is also good for peace of mind cos that marks the end of the more critical first 12 weeks.

Caught up on all your messages yesterday so now back to concentrating on work....

mrs o - contentious point, the whole underwired bra thing. I happen to know at least 3 people who have worn underwired while pregnant and 2 or them have gone on to successfully breastfeed/ experience no problems whatsoever. The other one was also fine although she didn't breastfeed (nothing to do with her bra!).

My midwife told me that it was entirely fine to wear underwired but just to be mindful of the fit - i.e. don't squeeze your ever-expanding boobs into bras that are too small/ dig in etc since breast tissue during pregnancy is sensitive and very changeable. Personally I went for the non-wired t-shirt bras from M&S, mainly because I am small anyway (only went up to 34B/C) and my baby was breech for ages so I had a lot of discomfort around my ribs and breastbone for a while.

I gather that some maternity specialists are now bringing out underwired maternity bras too - so might be worth investigating?

You will probably get mixed responses on this, so if you have a midwife that you have faith in I would ask them and then make your own mind up!

You can get some compromise bras at blooming marvellous that are part underwired - i.e the do not go right to the top where they might dig in. My SIL wore these and they were great.

I have gone for the non underwired as it is what I had in the draw from last time. But I have only gone up 1 cup size so far to DD

I'm still waiting for my dating scan.....the midwife told me I should hear by the end of this week, but..... zilch! I shall have to ring her next week and chase it up, as I'm now 12 weeks, so I'd quite like to see the little thing!

Plus, I'm with Astro on this...there's always that nagging doubt in the back of your mind that you've somehow made a mistake....

Loz - ring them today - you need peace of mind. Wotz there to lose by calling today?

Thanks guys. The fish and chips came back up, so obviously tummy didn't like it although did a week ago. Going out for curry tonight which I think I am craving, so see how that goes. I'm often better when I'm out as I get distracted.

Just found a companion cat for our lonely 6 yr old cat whose brother was run over in Jan. Ours has been very lonely and we reckon needs a friend before the flumps arrive in Oct/Nov. Dead chuffed, its taken 5 months of looking, we pick him up tomorrow.

Did a 40 min power walk this morning and some swiss ball stuff so slowly feel like am getting back doing stuff. My back is becoming achey already so need to keep it up.
