I'm having trouble working it out in km's I want to 6.50 a mile it.I know I have to be at 5k at 21.14 but with my Dewsbury education I'm struggerling with the rest. Any clues? I'm thinking 4.22 a km HELP !!!!
An easy way of thinking of it is just to divide by 10 - e.g. 40 minutes is 4 min/km, 50 minutes is 5 min/km. In your case you want to do 42 min 30 secs - dividing by 10 gives you 4 and a quarter or 4 mins 15 secs.
last year i did the 2nd half 1.5 mins quicker than the first half. Partly because i took the first half pretty steady but the 2nd half is definately quicker and a good negative split course. Looking for about the same this year. Aim is to get sub 46m30s, but hopefully nearer 46m.
Target at 5k is 23m30s then go hard from there and see how far the tank takes me.
There is a nice drop a couple of hundred meters from the finish so a fast finish guaranteed.
Hooray , thanks guys , sorted. I did it with a km time of4mins 15 secs and it comes out at 42.30 , spot on cheers.Torque - sorry about the flu hope your feeling better soon. I expect a big cheer from behind your tissue.I'll be in black, with red and yellow stripe , dews vest.Hair in two pony tails.Simon - you running? What time are you hoping for?
yup - I forgot to change the decimal minute back into secs. I blame the flu!!
This is my first week back running this year and plodded 5 miles this am in 41:36 so I shall wave to you all, from behind my tissues, as you come back down the course:-))
I have inherited a cold from my sons as I always do the week before a race. However, I'm setting myself up for disappointment by not changing my target time here.
That's ok Simon , thanks again for the calculations , feeling really ready for Sunday now.I'm hoping to be sucessfull with the pace work, I'm quite confident as I took it steady at Abbey dash and did it in 43.35, as they say he who dares wins, well maybe not wins but you know what I mean.Good luck to everyone.

Just in the process of e-mailing the race organiser see what he has to say.

I make it 4 min 15 seconds.

conversion factor is 0.621388 (approximately)
so just take your mile time and multiply it my same
so 6.5 mins/mile = 4min 2 sec/km
so at 5K = 20min 10sec
mind the first 5K is very slightly uphill and the next 5K the reverse.
If you meant 6 min 50sec/mile then its 4 min 24 sec/km and at 5K you are right at 21:14.
After whole of January wiped out with flu I shall watch you with envy:-)
I think you mean 4 mins 15 seconds per km and not 4 mins 24 seconds.
Km Time
1 4-15
2 8-30
3 12-45
4 17-00
Halfway 21-15
6 25-30
7 29-45
8 34-00
9 38-15
Finish 42-30
Target at 5k is 23m30s then go hard from there and see how far the tank takes me.

Sorry you've got to miss this race.

Mr J and I will be there for the day out too, January has been a disaster for running!
Good news that you are back though!
As I'm doing it for my FLM preparation I won't be too upset as long as I run up to my best.
sort of back.................:-)
surprised myself with run this am so a gentle plod roound on Sunday may be ok
RunnyBunny is threatening me with her taser if I get anywhere near her in case she catches my bugs - that should get her to a PB!!!!
Not sure as I missed the post this morning.
From what the race organiser on the website has said I'll assume that it may have been in the same batch of post as yours.
Fingers X'd
Just got home to find that my race number has arrived in the post this morning. Just one less thing now to worry about. Stroll on Sunday!!
