I've done a couple of short runs this week and thought I was flying after the 'orrible long slow plods of last week! A nifty 6 tonight, easy 10 tomorrow and then decide whether to run with the club on Monday (well, I won't see them then for a couple of weeks) or whether to just take it very easy in the last week.

I'm getting ridiculously excited now so may even spend a bit of time planning my sophisticated (ie non-running) wardrobe for NY!

    Have a good weekend everyone.

I've been sat at my mums having a brew before going down the club... and have to say I'm getting nervous now. Was thinking of ways that I can have a disaster... and the main concern is where I am in the starting field... as if I'm in the middle, forget 2:50... running around people etc etc... trouble is, there's nothing as of yet to say where abouts or what area's you're in.... :-(

Anyone else worried or is it just me?

16 Days... my god, that's nothing...

    Hello Everyone
I have had a quick trawl thru the messages as I've not been on for ages! I was really touched Pug noticed I was gone - thank you :).

Anyway I have had a stinking cold but am just about over it and have also been struggling with some low points lately. I've done very little running for the last 2 weeks and am getting worried I might have 'lost it'. Irrational I know and I managed 2.16 in the Great Eastern Run last weekend despite a runny nose. Anyone else getting the jitters? Is it OK to really drop off the mileage in these last couple of weeks? I feel like I was doing some mega mileage and now that seems like an age ago. Its funny how those really long runs are like hell but they make you feel 'safe'.

    Aaagh -

But I am stocking up on the fruit and veg big time. I reckon lots of vitamins and minerals are going to help. Also has anyone else got a HUGE appetite and is it normal to be feeling really tired?

    Queenie x

Nice to have you back Queenie, the last time you posted on this forum I responded to you as I hadn't heard from you for a while then you dissapeared again. Now I know why.2.16 is still a great time considering your cold.I think I know how you feel,i haven't trained for 3 days and for some reason I dont feel fit.No need to over do it now, dont try to catch up with lost training as there nothing to be gained at this stage do a 10 to 12 mile run then start your taper. Blimey - thread's been busy today. Been at a client all day so no slouching on the Internet like I normally do LOL!

Had a rest day today but did a good run yesterday, in fact took a minute off my PB for my 7 mile route. Had a great week's running actually and feel really fit a the moment - hope I haven't peaked too early! Planning on 5 miles steady tomorrow then 17 on sunday, then the serious taper begins - ahhh!

Well dunno about anyone else but thats me started to look at the weather situation in New York on a daily basis, bbc weather, weather underground, weather.com all getting daily hits from my works PC now, hope IT department don't start their nonsense lol.

Been pretty warm over there this week, low 20's, but lookin at this Sunday its 13 degress, hardly any wind and a bit drizzly, fingers crossed its the same on the 5 Novemebr, none of this 23 degress stuff it was last year, i'll cook!!

Hi all just got back from my run,5.25 miles easy and my tender groin feels fine now.I just need to get this long run done and dusted tomorrow and then I can well and truly start to enjoy my taper. For me the taper is a strange feeling as my body is so used to being physically busy doing loads of miles and then all of a sudden the milage decreases and it feels like iam losing fitness and feel lazy.Have I trained enough? am I fit enough? yes iam! as I have done all the hard work already.

Just had a thought about the girls going to the matinee on Saturday. Are you all aware that there is a free pasta party on Saturday afternoon/early evening? We get the tickets when we pick up our goody bags at the expo, and the time we have been allotted to attend will be printed on the ticket. Also, don't forget that there is a fireworks display in cental park at about 7:30. With it being November 4th, us Brits will not want to miss that.

Thanks for that Trail Runner, I'd forgotten all about the pasta party. What do you think girls, should we wait till we know what time we are given for the party, as I'd quite like to go to that too, and the fireworks, oh god, decisions, decisions.

Just got back from what will probable be my last long run but it was only 10 miles, do you think this will be enough or should I try to get in another one. Could have gone on for a lot longer but desperately needed the loo, even though I stopped at a garage to use their facilities, I still needed to go again so came home. Feel really good though and I know I could have done another 4 or 5 easily.

The pasta party is abolutely packed. When you recieve your ticket to attend they have a specific time you have to attend the party. So if have 10 people you know and you all want to go together it will be virtually impossible to all go together. You the have to try and find somebody else to swap with nearer to your allocated time.

Just a note on the pasta party, people who have been to NY before told me to avoid it as the queues are long - do you want to be queuing for an hour just to eat the night before the marathon? you will be much better to go to an italian restaurant - try little italy for loads of freindly family run restaunts or the one opposite Milford Plaza on the cross street between 8th and 9th Ave.

I went out yesterday for my first run in 2 weeks as i thought the inflamation of my leg had gone, but today the shin is swollen again and painful i am starting to feel very nervous. i am going to pack my mums collapsible walking stick - i will get round somehow!!!

Lynne i think your run long is probably enough, just follow your taper now dont overdo it or risk injury in the last 14 days.

Oh dear its just sunk in 14 DAYS TO GO....

Mrs.B. Good point about queuing: ie on your feet for an hour or so might not be so good. I think I'll check the situation out and if its too packed I'll head for little Italy.
On the fireworks front, I've been in NY on the 4th of July and that display was awesome.

In 2003 I gave the pasta party a miss cos of the queues. Probably not worth the effort. Who is up for the friendship run on Sat morning?

Don't be hard on yourself pug I've been in awe of your training all along.

getting really excited and nervous now. did last long run 12 very wet boggy hilly miles this morning. let's hope legs recover over next 2 weeks.

Won't be at party on Sunday as coming back across pond on qm2. Ship leaves from brooklyn at 5pm last boarding 4pm so no pressure for me to finish in under 4 hrs. Oh dear it seemed like a good idea back in Jan. Mr mud is not very impressed either he does not want to spend 6 days alone with excess adiposed americans even when I suggested he may find a rich one.

Sounds to me like the matinee would be a good bet to go to, and as Mrs B said finished in time to enjoy those great fireworks!!
I will be doing a 10 miler tomorrow, as my last long run. then will taper right down. Cant beleive its just two weeks to go now....having a nightmare with running kit though. Charity has given me a vest top but its a snug fit around my top half, so they sent me a t-shirt. This is no good at all as its cotton!! not sure what to do as I really dont think the cotton t-shirt would be a wise move. And I really want to wear the charity top too... maybe I could put a t-shirt (technical) underneath the vest top and just not worry about it being a snug fit!!
Anyone else having problems with their charity t-shirts supplied? I have apparently got the largest size...charming!!
