Not good that Abingdon have already decided they are not going to be able to go ahead though I guess it means they won't incur the expenses which could be the reason?
If you think you can or you think you can't you're probably right.

Having thought about it, I suspect that given that they only opened entries some 3 weeks ago at best and then looking at the new Autumn schedule they will have considered that whilst there was some risk it wouldn't happen anyway, if it did it was probably going to be very poorly attended.

TR - I live in Wadebridge, so from my door to my turning point in Padstow (in the distance in this stock image) just over 5 miles along the Camel Trail.

Abingdon gone, so looks like you could well be right TR.  Holding out for Malaga in December.

Probably a few reasons, the email said due to the current uncertainty. But as per my post re gosport who have frozen entries and are not ordering medals there are costs to be incurred that folks dont want to risk.......i was thinking that Abo had a better chance of going ahead than VLM and Brighton too. Who knows there could be a situation where we are allowed to race again late in the year and there are none?

Perfectly possible TR and impossible to predict from here.

TR - Yes deferral is automatic. Other options were partial refund or donating full entry to the club. Easy to forget that there are athletics clubs that will be suffering this year. Guessing some would have been banking on money from certain events although most events are probably close to break even anyway.

I deferred my Liverpool entry to next year. If things improve i'd like to do an autumn marathon I think but it's no good planning anything. At the moment no word on Great North Run but I won't bank on that going ahead.

Agreed LMH, it's like gazing into a crystal ball at the moment, trying to guess if anything from Park Runs to marathons will go again this year.
OO.. looks like a nice run, is the Camel trail traffic free?
Jools.. a tidy little set up, is that a luxury wine box I see - possibly empty?

Still ticking over here, 8.4 miles today.  My mix of country lanes and cart tracks, usually deserted, are definitely busier than usual.  I guess it's a mixture of the weather, folk off work, kids at home etc.  Forecast is for strong winds tomorrow and max. 5 degrees on Sunday so maybe everyone will retreat indoors again!

I'm considering taking a rest day tomorrow Wardi, not just because of the weather though :-)

I need to get back to running if it can get me out of the gardening. a couple of hours out there is leaving me cream crackered. How Alan Titchmarsh isn't running sub 2:30 marathons I'll never know...

Oh I should have guessed Jools!  I did think that was a corkscrew on top though!
.. I remember someone saying you should not do gardening during a taper and you've just reminded me why. :o
Still ticking over nicely here, should be just over 50m this week.

    How is everyone doing?

Whilst there are still a few idiots out there, it appears that most folks are now playing the team game, so hopefully we'll keep being allowed out, especially as it looks like lockdown is going to go on for a while.

The SPO is a social person (as against my anti-social) and is getting dragged down a bit, so she asked me to go for a walk with her and the doggy today as against going on her own. So first non running day of the year, but i did 30 mins of cct training in the garage beforehand. Probably wont be able to walk tomorrow let alone run......she might eant me to use my exercise token to walk rather than run next sunday now though.

Wardi: harpsichord tuning kit, not corkscrew (that's in the kitchen!)

11 today to bring up 40 for the week. I'm ok generally, but I'm fairly introverted so the lack of socialising isn't much of an issue!

TR.. nice chaperoning, always good to keep close ones happy.  Certainly my town and pictures of York & Leeds would suggest folk have got the message.  My run today crossed the main dual carriageway between Leeds/York a couple of times and I've never seen it so quiet.
Curry & beer indoors tonight, the local Indian takeaway only takes cash so no contactless facility there!

Jools - im with you i dont go out much normally, its not being allowed out yo run that worries me than not being able to socialise.

Wardi - yes, roads are quiet. I saw a police car checking out a car park up the top of the hill when i ran through it yday, i guess he was after folks who had driven there to walk their dog, but some of the blokes who park there arnt walking their dog,...........i do wish the police would police the non essential shopping instead though.

I think the SPO might rope me into walking with her next sunday too.

Wardi - The Camel Trail in its day was the rail line, so no traffic for a long long time.  That's a decent weekly mileage.
TR - first non-running day in 2020 - wow.  You will be on fire tomorrow.
39 for me this week, was planning to run today to get 50 for the week, but a slightly sore knee and the cold strong wind put me off, so also had a walk with the pooch and the Mrs.

    Yo gang,

Hope you are keeping safe and healthy.

Ive done more stuff on the house over the last 3 days than I have over the previous 15.

Just shy of 50 for the week - Hust say that ive seen more people exercising on the lanes round my gaff now than ever in all my years or running. All obeying SD so all good.

Got pulled by the cops the other day - I had just been to the supermarket on my way back from work where i did a run round the site before I left so was in my running kit - when he asked did i have good reason for my journey we had a bit of a laugh - 3 out of 4 aint bad!  He did say that 75% of people he had stopped where just carrying on as normal, nipping here and there. Strange times we are living in.

First non-running day TR, that's pretty incredible. I very much doubt i'll ever achieve such consistency but if I do i'll be expecting a solid marathon. You'd be coming up to taper time without Covid-19!

Some very sensible mileage out there. Nothing crazy but people definitely ticking over nicely. That's good to see.

I've managed a couple of 3 milers myself. Nice to be out the house. I did almost run into someone this morning going round a corner for which I felt pretty bad. I've been conscious to slow down and take the corners wide but I was distracted.

Definitely not recommending gardening for taper time, or any heavy lifting for that matter. 3 days of digging out earth from one part of the garden to move to another has left me with some sore forearms and back.

OO - snap on the SPO and doggy walk!

Menn - same here, ive been running before work (from work) and getting any essentials on the drive back.

Joe - as ive said before i can do a whole week bar a few strides or the odd tempo at 8:XX, if i was to run faster more often it would come with a cost.

Only saw the odd person at the end of my 8m this morning , cold and frosty too !

The full body circuit i devised for ydays circuit training was obviously quite comprehensive as i thinks its only my ears that dont ache.

Had another race deferred to 2021 today, i have 4 or 5 races for next yr already.

TR - Doggy walks bloody dangerous, go easy out there.  Went for another walk yesterday missed my step on a gate stile, jarred my left knee so benched for a few days.   Though there is never a good time to be injured, now matters less than most.
RJR - Good to see your back at it.
As time goes by, my productivity in wfh is going out the window as it's quiet out there but so temptingly sunny. So many contacts now on or shortly to be furloughed.

OO.. dangerous indeed!  A girl in my club lost her balance climbing over a fence while walking Muttley.  She landed awkwardly and broke a bone in her instep.  About 2-3 months out with crutches and a corrective boot.  A right misery guts she was!  Hope you are back to it soon.
Lighter winds and kinder temps today so a pleasant 10 miler out in the country.
Menn.. agreed, definitely more folk about than usual - cyclists, dog walkers, hikers, runners, people with kids etc.

Hi all, hope everyone is doing ok and not going too stir crazy.

OO - ditto on the productivity front :( I have taken a nosedive having initially settled in well.

TR - you are keeping things very consistent. I hope you get some races at some point this year to get some reward.

RJR - I've enlisted my lad to do some gardening whilst me and Mrs SJ work. He seems reasonably happy doing it, for now:)

Wardi - cant get a treadmill even if I wanted one. Plenty sold out and obviously delivery is an issue.

Menn - penny has dropped round my way. Only a few numpties now either not getting it or dont want to play by the rules. Some of the police reaction has been over zealous though. Flying drones about his a bit much. All they had to say was dont drive somewhere nice to walk your dog. People would get that. Saying you are ok to walk your dog wasnt clear enough, for some. It's why everyone is a runner all of a sudden. Boris said running was fine, so everyone is out running.

I have been out running with my lad. He wanted to get into it but we've had to start at ground zero. Despite gaining junior black belt in Taekwondo a few years ago he basically stopped doing any form of sport until now. Anyway, varying things up and running for time with walk breaks etc. He's coming along nicely so long as he remembers to take his inhaler.

I'm finding this week harder than last. It's just having no sense of when all this will end which is hard to process.

    7 miles with 7 X 3mins off 2mins yesterday. 7 steady today.

But at the end of the day I am healthy and lucky enough that I can weather the storm financially so I shouldn't grumble, really.

OO - indeed if you are going to have a niggle, now is the time.

Yep - hopefully few numpties left now

Been underpar for a few days so took a couple of days off running but feeling refreshed and am off out for an hour just now.

Had a flurry of Strava requests today with no link that I can see. Anyone else?

Im keeping busy round the house and fortunate with where we live, As my wifes grandpa used to say, theres many worse. Particularly true in this climate

    Keep well all

It's definitely getting harder as the novelty is wearing off a bit.

SJ if your son stays that way he's welcome here. There's some adjustments to make to make it a decent 5k course...

Inspired by CD's garden parkrun on Saturday I did 5k of my own in the garden today. Around 75 laps with a swap from anti-clockwise to clockwise at half way mark. Quite hard going but got into the rhythm towards the end. I won't be rushing to do a marathon out there though...
  • Options
Nice one RJR - you have a bigger garden than me (113 laps although GPS was measuring short) but it does get a bit tedious.  Definitely no marathon happening in our garden!

I ran the local golf course as well at the weekend, almost completely deserted and devoid of golfers so straight down the middle of the fairways, just avoiding the greens which are being maintained.  I run on the downs several times a week normally but this has allowed me to find some parts that I've never visited before.  From the first tee to the 18th green took around 30 minutes, which is probably around par for the course, as long as you avoid all that tedious golfing business of getting the ball I the hole.  Or lugging clubs around.

Jools.. a couple of people I know are already going stir crazy with no social interaction.  They just don't know when there will be something to look forward to.  On a broader scale I'm sure it doesn't help when so many are not working and/or trying to cope with kids at home.  Good session yesterday BTW.
CD/RJR..  I won't be running round my garden, the lawn has just been treated pre spring so I don't want to wear it out prematurely!
SJ.. a friend of mine managed to get hold of a new treadie, it weighs around 113 kilos so I haven't volunteered to help him shift it when it arrives!

Another 10m today, an off road cycle track which wasn't too busy.

SJ - good one on running with yr lad.....all the government needed to do to kick start a running boom was to tell folks to stay in.

Jools - it will be hard to keep the training going without known fixtures.

CD - good idea re the golf course, i used to run on one near me, ideal now theres no golfers.........industrial parks are very quiet at the mo too. I ran from work tonight.
