It’s definitely worth a try; the worst that can happen is they say no.
If anyone who can make contact with celebs, sports stars, athletes, singers/musicians anyone really…..get in touch with them and keep us informed, and we will do the same.
Anyone had had any response from local councillors etc?
Dave Watson - don't mention his name on these forums.
A better former-Tranmere marathon runner is Ray Stubbs, who runs quite a bit and has mentioned competing in the Wirral Marathon before (whenever that was). He could also give some BBC Sport publicity if he was to be contracted.
All great stuff everyone, Jakesy that would be brilliant.
The MM08 petition is looking great and growing each day, anyone think written petitions may be useful? I will be doing some myself and putting them in running shops/clubs etc.
The top section of the North of England and North Wales e-mail says:
"Newsflash! If you would like a marathon to be held in Liverpool as part of its year as European City of Culture in 2008, you might want to add your name to a petition to Liverpool council. This has been organised by a number of forum members (see forum thread)."
There are hyperlinks to both the survey and this thread in there, which I'm not skilled, or unlazy, even to include.
I think this is a great idea. The tie in with the firefighter games sounds good too. I would imagine they would no doubt appreciate the added publicity. Put my name down. I think the PB is safe though in august. Is there enough time to plan an event of this type?
We are not sure, but there appears to be little or no intention within the council to make it happen, that is why we need to show as much support on the petition as possible.
If we can demonstrate this, then the councillors and the council have to listen (if they want our votes!!).
SO tell your mates and everyone you know to sign the online petition...

Also if you visit the blog you will see that we have linked the Wirral Globe, just for you!
I've signed the petition, but not heard anything back from the councillor email.

Anyone know when the newsletter is out?
Thanks Sean & all at RW.

Imagine if it went on other regional newsletters as well! Any chance Sean?
Some of the comments are brilliant and shows why there is such a need for this to go ahead.

Just a quick update, the petition is building steadily which is great, nearly 500 in just a week is a brilliant start.
We are still in the process of rallying support and are awaiting feedback from various people and places.
Cougie, any joy from your councillor email yet? Any feedback from anyone else?
Happy, maybe you could put a link your webpage to the petition?
If anyone is still out there………..the campaign is still going strong, and we made the Liverpool Echo tonight, here is the link sorry its so long…..
