I've smoked on and off for about 20 years. I actually stopped for 2 years but started again soon after our 2nd child arrived (exactly a year to the day after our first!) I know it's a flimsy excuse, but stress levels were through the roof.
I haven't actually smoked a cigarette since last June but still smoke mini-cigars...10-a-day max. I was a voracious runner those 20-odd years ago before smoking...only in the last 6 months or so have I rediscovered my appetite for running. However, I now feel that I can't continue to smoke and run, so I plan to stub out for the last time this Sunday night.
@ Hoose-Goer, thanks very much for the offer. I'm pretty focused when I set my mind on something so hopefully (no...bugger-it, definitely)will not need aids in my non-nicotine quest, but if I falter I'll take you up on the offer. It's really the running which is my prime motivation to give up smoking. I shall not fail!
SWMBO wouldn't let me, IWDI. she said it would make too much mess. She's right,as usual. In fact, there's only one time she was ever wrong, and that's once when she thought she was wrong, but she wasn't.
Hi guys. Just thought I would pop back and tell you that I am still a non smoker with no slips since I gave up before Christmas. I see people smoking now and wonder why I ever did it!!
I stopped smoking last may and started running at about the same time. My first few weeks of running were horrible, painful and I though I'd never get up to a mile! A year on and I'm running 10k's and half marathons in relative comfort and hoping to do FLM next year....there's confidence for you! Everytime things get stressful and I think about reaching for the weed I think about how far back it would set my running....I'm 44 next birthday, I don't need any more incentive to keep off ciggies tghan knowing that maybe my new lifestyle will give me loads more time with my kids who are only 4 and 10. I've just got a friend running, she smokes a lot....if I can get her hooked on running, perhaps I can get her unhooked from smoking?? Any advice on that??
Just thought I would pop back in and let you know I am still smoke free 6 months on adn feel so much better for it! I will never smoke again. Only one week to go until they ban it in bars and pubs too, so I will never wake up with that horrible feel like I've been smoking becasue i spent the night in the pub. Can't wait...,
