I came across The stillman formula a while back, which I decided to follow. Did a check and found my normal ideal weight should be 148 Lbs. As I run long distance, should be aiming at 20% below normal range. So my normal weight is 10 St 8lbs, minus 20%. Giving a running weight for my 6ft 3 inch frame is 8 stone, 4 lbs.
This is what I've acheived, and it does work, finding running conistant and quick recovery.
Anybody aiming for this formula? Google search and explains all.

8stone 4 for someone 6ft3?
Surely your "Non-Running" weight should be 192-ish lb, or about 13-10? The sums being thus:
6'3" is 5 feet and 15 extra inches.
110 + (15x5.5) = 192.5
L/D running weight would therefore be 85% of that - about 164lb, or 11-10.
If you're currently at 8'4", I fear you've become too emaciated to use a calculator correctly!
That must be a typo. Or you are really not very well. I weighed about that as a 17 year old girl at 5'8". And I was stick thin.
I have to say as a newcomer to these forums your posts scare me! I genuinely do worry that that you have some kind of eating disorder. Please seek help.
A friend of mine built this which is very useful:

As the maths isnt the easiest on the calculations.
Also Stillman is racing weight not training weight and you should be around 5-6lbs heavier in training and aim to lose the last bit in the weeks before race day.
STILLMAN CALCULATOR
thought it would be a little easier like this curly
Thanks
I think this may be a wind up
If it is he's been on the wind up for three years.
If it's not, then someone with a BMI of 14.5 needs serious help.
Wow, according to those calculations for long distance racing I'd have to lose about 3 stones and get down to a weight I last saw when I was about 12.
not sure i like the sound of this.......my bmi is currently 18 and i keep getting told off by my doc for being underweight - according to Stillman, to be a long distance runner i should be at 16.9 (though i'm currently perfect as a sprinter )
I'm hurdler weight, apparently... At long-distance weight I would look vile, I should think (although I haven't been anywhere near long-distance weight since I reached adult height).
killer has had an osession with getting lighter and lighter for years............
have been close to my long-distance weight once in my adult life - when i was diagnosed with anorexia! was reading the link to one of his previous posts (kindly supplied by PhilPub) - sounds like the guy has some serious weight issues......
I looked at that calculator and though 'that's not too bad...' then realised that I hadn't changed it to female and found out that I'm more than two stone overweight for a long distance runner.
I haven't weighed that little since I was about 15.
Thanks for linking to the post - Philpub. Killermiles - it's good to hear that you're still around. Did you get some sort of professional help?
On a more encouraging Zatopek was heavier than me
Ha fatty
Currently Mid Dist. Do I need to eat more for a faster 5km?
On another note - has anyone found scientific proof that this method is an acceptable and agreed method of competing?
ditto, the same I think applies to very underweight women.
I'm terribly overweight btw - I need to loose 12lbs. The answer to that is 'not in a million years' - well, when I'm dead and just bones maybe.
Well I'm pretty light at just 9 stone. But then again I'm only 5 ft 5".
🙂
My long distance weight came out at 9st 12lb, I haven't weighed that little since I was 8 years old.
I was 10st 4, and I decided to take running as my main hobby. Also not been here because my email got hacked and I forgot, then found it during a search.
I don't think being underweight is bad, but I find I can keep a faster pace for longer and not prone to injury, especially the joints. I won't go below my current weight, maybe increase it a little over winter, doing loads of conditioning drills then strip back again for next year, having just lean muscle and a very low fat %.
Also go to the gym more in winter, but will keep my miles up.
Holy Shit.
Three years ago he was on here boasting about being 6ft 3 and 10 stone 4 lbs, now he's 8 stone 4 llbs. One thing is certain, he wont be back in another three years telling us he's now 6 stone 4 lbs; either he will have sorted himself out or he'll be dead.
Killermiles - seriously dude, what you are doing is sad and pathetic. It's just a protracted suicide. You need to take a long look in the mirror, metaphorically and literally. You're an adult. Isn't it time that you grew a pair of balls and faced up to your problems, whatever they are? If like many of us at some time in our lives, you don't know how, or aren't able to deal with your problems yourself, then the smart, courageous, adult thing to do is to ask for help. Not from strangers on the internet but from a professional such as your doctor.
My wife has a similar opinion. At 5'10" and just over 10 stone, I'm a long distance runner who is not getting any
