Just remember to get there early - there's only one road in and out, and it can get quite congested... Good flat course - not that scenic, but you do get to see the old Hoverspeed cross-channel ferries slowly rotting from the airfield. It's certainly a pb coure, if you're in pb shape.
Sadly Gosport does not have a train station. You will need to either go from Fareham then get a bus or go to Portsmouth Harbour and take the short ferry to Gosport then a bus..... Not ideal....
Hi DF3 - yep I would guess the 16feet is the single biggest climb (or drop) over some distance interval, while the total is the result of adding up all the climbs (or drops), notwithstanding map elevation accuracy which might invalidate that estimate (i.e. it could be anything ).
229 feet of climbing in 69,168 feet distance (13.1 miles) does not sound too bad.....
I am doing this for the 4th time, its by far the best goody bag I have ever had and puts the great south run's to shame,
My 6 year old will do the kids race, only £2 and they get a medal and goody bag too.
I like the fact some of the race is in the airfield and the samba band are aways great to listen to
Marshalls are good on this race and so too is the organisation
Zoe... You've convinced me, and I've managed to convince my wife, Emma. I've entered into this run as I need another challenge. Really looking forward to it. Not sure what time I'll get, but I've guessed 2hrs 10. We'll see what happens on the day!
Have also entered this half! Although i live in Portsmouth and work in Gosport this will be my first time on this course. At present i am into a sixteen week marathon training programme for the Portsmouth Coastal marathon 23rd December 2012. Have got the Bexhill half next weekend (11th Nov) and then the Gosport half. Training is going well and the 20/21 mile long run is scheduled for the end of November. Getting nervous already! Can anyone give me any reassurance? The Gosport Half will be my eighth half this year with a fastest time of 1hr 48min (average is 1hr 53mins), the Great South run was completed in 1hr 18mins. longest run to date 16miles. Weekly mileage now heading towards 30miles? Has anyone else progressed onto the marathon from halfs?
I guess there will be a few of us going around in the 2 hrs 10 mins mark,
12 miles for me today, very slow 12 miles! still having knee problems, wore a tubi-grip and this seemed to help a little bit, the pain was rather dull than a sharp pain!
looking forward to it now and hoepfully meeting people from the forum
Don - the Gosport Half race pack that I got arrived in yesterday's post in a brown A5 envelope, with my race number; a sheet with various details of the race, venue, and what time to turn up to collect the timing chip; and a voucher for gait analysis.
The Hayling 10 is the following weekend I think, so doing both is keen

Newby James, it is a race of all abilities, I am looking at 2hr 10mins if I am lucky!
Coming from Yeovil Somerset for the frist time for this one, so hope Gosport is as fast as people say it is. Got to be new pb under 01 27 .

Thanks for the advice pmo, on the rd at 530am.
No probs Kevin. Can someone stick a j in there ^^^^ for me?
Let's hope 2 things for this one.
If those 2 things are positive, should be a decent chance for a pb is in top form.
Is there any easy way to talk from the train station to the start line? Seems there is a big bit of sea in the way. How long does it take?
Anyone got a route map for this, please?
If not, does this link that I found look about right (not my map BTW).
I like to get a feel for the course, if I can, and as it'll be only my third race event (and only 3 weeks after the GSR), I am looking for clues
Unless they've changed it from 2 years ago (the last time I did it), that looks about right to me!
Great - thanks Mike
Well - at least one of 'the rest of you lot' could only dream of doing that distance in 2 hrs!
I'll be finishing well after you at about 2hr 15min, and that's if I am doing well.

The GSR has similar ascent and descent.
gosh it took so long time to type, that Karl beat me to it.
I must refresh the webpage more often

Homemade cake, drink, banana, key ring with gosport half marathon on it, packet of hula hoops, medal and a cloth bag
Got my race pack today. Feel free to say hello to vest number 1774 on the day, or as you pass me by on the course
I like hula hoops! Looking forward to them .................
This sounds like a good race pack to me! All the more incentive to get round to the finish!
first time for me as well, just got the bug, got the one in Hayling Island as well, can anyone let me know about the race pack and when to expect it
