That would mean changing airways. I avoided Lufthansa to begin with for this very reason. Looks like an extra night in Aberdeen and first flight home on the Wednesday morning.
My flight times with AirFrance for Paris have also been changed, no great issue but is this a regular thing now? I normally fly low cost but 'treated' myself to national airways for European marathons. Doesn't seem to have been best choice for most of us so far...
No Orbutt, I went with KLM as the flight got back in time to get the cheaper option of the ferry home from Aberdeen. Now looks like there is a very late flight on the Tuesday but only at 8x the price of the ferry!! On the plus side we will get home an awful lot quicker!
Hey, have you noticed how the forum is insertin links when companies are mentioned? I didn't link to Lufthansa and I don't think that Kaz would have linked to KLM - a new feature?
Quite bizarre with the brand name links... A new RW marketing tool?
I'm happy the recent RW has come through my door with (obviously standard) 16 week training plans. I need focus. It's easy to disregard or indeed just not finish weighty tomes like P+D but the brief plans in the issue are easy to input into the calendar...
Hi all, hope everyone had a great Christmas with family and didn't have to work too hard. It's New Year soon!
So, I work in the hospital that recently showed Weight Loss Ward to the world (that has ITV1 reception). Phenomenal and awful stuff. I'm not sure if anyone saw it but I simply couldn't watch it.
Now, I speak as someone who has gained probably a stone since Berlin in late-September through bad habits/injury. Mainly bad habits/over-eating/laziness. I still find the excuses people make - amplified particularly this time of year - for gluttony are incredible. And I do it regularly myself. I've been overeating probably since my first marathon in 2008 - thinking I'd 'sort it out' with a few runs. It's abject nonsense and aberrant behaviour really - not good for our bodies/psyche at all. But now, the pattern is probably the norm. The diet in our community is shocking (as is mine at times).
I spend my life talking to smokers/alcohol-dependent people at work, tying to dissuade them from self-destructive behaviour, wondering why someone would voluntarily damage themself so - then I look at the amount of Toblerone I've eaten over the festival period...
Don't really know where I'm going with this but still wonder at the over-indulgence at Christmas/starving oneself in New Year festive period patterns. We're a bit strange really, us human types.
I am the same....and note it is now a month since I have run anything significant distance wise(max is a couple of miles...). My excuses are all valid..Jury duty..trauma from Jury duty...too busy..too tired..no time...too wet..sore knee..think I have sore a knee...travelling...eating..drinking. Okay enough is enough ..wishing you all a great New Year and a happy New Years Day run..or if like me a run the day after- old habits die hard!
EHN - absolutely. I know we all struggle at times but these fora are brilliant at motivation. I'd never have finished Paris this year if not for the Paris threaders.
Happy new year all, 2013 will be a great year for running!
RS - probably most reliable way to get a GNR place now is via a charity. And you won't have to buy the Mail. Or the Mirror. Or whatever it was. You can feel good too! I'll sponsor you...
darn, completely forgot to get the mirror as work went awol. ops. I'm saving all my charity credits for London next year. I'll survive not doing the GNR this year. Thanks for the offer anyway. I shall hunt you out next year for london.

Kaz - have you had a look at the Lufthansa timetable to see if there is an alternative flight which will allow you to get your connection?
Lufthansa were happy to change my return flight when they messed me around.
EHN - ouch. Rest your knees
That would mean changing airways. I avoided Lufthansa to begin with for this very reason. Looks like an extra night in Aberdeen and first flight home on the Wednesday morning.
Kaz - sorry I thought you were already with Lufthansa.

Kaz - I'd still give them a call and try for better flights, if there's any. Always worth trying.

I noticed that too Orbut, and no I didn't link cos I don't know how!!!

The Paris training has to start sometime soon!
I've not even open last RW.........maybe because I couldn't run I didn't want to look at it?
I need a plan though so heres hoping mine arrives soon...........
Christmas means many things - not just 9 months to Berlin! ????
Have a great Christmas time. Safe travels and good running.
Iain
Have a great one. Happy Running

On that note, enjoy. And apologies!
Iain
Iain - I know what you mean. I'm a bit weak willed when it comes to eating and Xmas is the perfect excuse to 'get into the spirit'.
I have to make a conscious effort to cut down again afterwards (although indigestion seems to help) but being on the injury bench doesn't help.
The thing is, I have Paris to aim for - followed by Berlin, so I know I have to cut down. Anyone without a goal or reason is well and truly stuffed
Orbutt - I also have Paris to aim for, still struggling. Like you, I need a next race to look forward to - motivation can be lacking in the extreme...
But it's ok - the days are already getting longer!
(Just found the Christmas smileys btw...)
Happy new year all, 2013 will be a great year for running!
Iain
Happy new year all!!!
Just got an email about the GNR ballot. FFS!! I have to buy the daily mail to enter. things we do for running.
Nobody should be forced to buy the Daily Mail...
whoops, it's the daily mirror not mail...doesn't make it any better though.
Do you *have* to? I entered it all online last year and didn't have to spend a single penny to do it.
Damn I wish I had signed up for this. It is the day before my birthday. I did not realise.
Khanivore - stick around, you can run it vicariously, through us
Haha - i will sign up for 2014!
