Cheers James. I think missing proper slow 20 milers will definitely have an effect. At least, I reckon I really benefitted from the 4 I did and I'd have preferred to do more.
Regarding comments about the VLM - I watched the BBC 1 and then the finish line on the red button from 5 hours onwards. Not wishing to be condescending in any way and fair play to all those that completed it - but it did look as though some were a little under prepared.
Although one runner did make me chuckle. As loud as you like 'That was a f in piece of piss'
It varies slightly from race to race but gfa for a 40 year old at London or Boston is 3.15. I'm not daring to dream of a time like that but being not too far away from it I'm feeling pressure to execute really good training for next marathon end of Sept. Just want to have a good Shrewsbury and see how we go.
unless - its oversubscribed and then they ballot it. I think with VLM you'll find that all the GFAs get in at the expense of ballot places, so as running becomes more and more popular, winning a placfe in the ballot because more like a lotto
what i mean is, that as it becomes more popular and people - like us, or a lot of people on this thread who started out slow and heavy and are now getting quicker will improve so more people will qualify good for age. The vlm ballot will more likely give it out close to 5000 places at a rough estimate - where as 10 years ago it would have been more like 10-15K. I have no actual data to base that on but i'm just making a point. Look how packed the bag checks are if you finish 1.45 in a half - people are improving
Of course Sean as well, but he's like a lightening man! Stonking speed in paris and then coming back 2 weeks later as quick as you did mate! increditble! different level
Shrewsberry - if i can ever spell it right, i'll do the old see how i feel on the day.I am used to the half a lot - i've done so many over the last 10 years and trying to chip away at my pb over so slightly at my next 3 appearances - (all before Berlin) may be the best route for me to have the confidence in myself to maintain such a pace - like i did in Paris a couple of weeks back. It's a long way off though, who knows whats gonna happen - there's barbecue season starting up soon - i've got to lay off the burgers!
hee hee hee, I was about to say that too...that maybe...just maybe Kaz your awesome performance in Paris was because you didn't train as hard and over do it...maybe...just sayin' and it's definitely cause we luv yah mate!

Jimbob - DLR - What's a GFA?
Ha ha - damn, I didn't have a poo plan .

Jimbob - Didn't know they did them! What's the GFA for 39? or 40 in a few months?
We were going to put DLR on the red button, but thought better of it. Must have been the rum...
Ah - I have the qualifying time for a 70 year old for Boston.........
Do you automatically get a place with a GFA?
Not sure why I am actually asking, as there norfolk and chance getting it for me.

something to aim for
I'm aiming for it. It'll be a while yet, but I'm determined to have a crack at it

thats why you have to tilt you hat to RR and Simon MacD for their stonking performances in Paris
Whats the chances of me knocking 10+ mins of in Berlin???
You can, Kaz, if you don't try and kill yourself in training...
very good chance of you doing that Kaz! just don't overtrain, rest days are just as important
And Sean.
Don't rule it out James.
For Shrewsbury Jim, no. I'm probably going to do 5 before it starts to take it up to 18 but all nice and easy.
funny how me and yermaj were just saying virtually the same thing to Kaz
I can't imagine why
Only running 4 days a week for training for Berlin, cycling/strengh training on other days..........I have learnt a lesson!!
I could say some nasty words folk.......but I ken its cos ya luv me really!!! x
And at least one proper rest day, madam, where you do nothing at all?
Of course Sean as well, but he's like a lightening man! Stonking speed in paris and then coming back 2 weeks later as quick as you did mate! increditble! different level

Your 3 appearences? Will there be publicity shots?
I expect so, trying to get myself in the Shrovesberry Echo is a priority that will lead me onto berlin

Shrewsbury Chronicle, dearie, Shrewsbury Chronicle. Or the Shropshire Star if you want the scattergun approach.
