Wow Reading reckons it is 16! I will see if I can get the car that evening - I suspect the OH will have it at work though
I wonder if I should be suspicious that Bray doesnt have a temperature advertised - possibly freezing!
Out of interest has anyone been to Taplow this year? I went 2 seasons ago and it was like the lake scene in Harry Potter (plants were coming to get me).
My swim teacher runs Taplow so I'm planning to go. She reckons it 17C on facebook but not sure I believe her and plan some interrogation on my next session next week. Will report back. Were the weeds bad last year? I'll ask about that as well.
I've only been once and that was either last season or the season before. I consider myself a confident and competent ow swimmer but at Taplow I only managed one circuit. I'm just used to empty (ish) water. Mysterious plants touching me just freaked me out. This was also after they had 'cleared' the lake of weeds.
(I realise that all sounds a bit pathetic!)
I'd definitely be up for Taplow visits though because it's nearer than my local pool!
Reading lies. Chalk board at the lake today said 14.6 C!
One of the guys thats works there on the jetty is a geek and has a fancy infra-red thermometer that measures the temp at different depths! So I'm guessing the chalk board is spot on. The web site on the otherhand...???
Is there anybody near Norfolk who fancies going up to Cromer, or somewhere along the North Norfolk coast, for a lovely warm swim in gorgeous crystal clear water?
Afraid i live nowhere near there but got family nearby if I get the chance to see them over the summer I'll shout up.
picked up a stomach bug which may or may not be related to Saturdays swim in the Ouse. little sympathy from my wife who said "thats what happens if you go swimming in the river." my employer probably thinks the same.
Honk, unlikely to be the river as nobody else was ill. However if you drank a lot of the water then that can upset your stomach whether it is clean or dirty. I've only swum in the Ouse twice before so I haven't built up any immunity so if the water was dirty they I should have been ill too.
Feedback on Taplow - the horses mouth said the temp really was 17 last week and its warmer than most other local lakes cos its not as deep. But with the cold weather over the last few weeks she suspects it will have dropped a bit. I might go tomorrow evening or the weekend.
Soup Dragon can you report back on the weeds? I can only swim Thursday evening this week so I'll probably go to Bray but I would happily convert to regularly going to Taplow
Buttercup, I'm not far from there, but I refuse to pay for the right to swim in a dirty lake at fixed times when I can swim in the beautiful river at anytime for free.
I will be in the Nene on Sunday, taking out some beginners. Anyone is welcome to join me
Good to see SA again at boundary park. First OW swim for me, managed 6 laps of 400m. Felt great if a little bit chilly on the face and feet. Said 14.5c but felt colder.
Evil pixie... are you talking about Bowsorth? was it on tonight? We didnt make it as feeling ill and 11.3 degree water is even colder than the other week! Hoping to make it on Sat!

I'm going to thorpe tomorrow. Went on Saturday which showed me I need to go a lot more than I thought
Oh good SS (that you're going not that you need to go a lot!), what time you going? I'm hoping to be there about 6 depending on traffic.

You lot may want to visit the PSOF swim cap thread so you can easily spot each other at OW venues
Have requested my name be added to the list Schmunkee
Will probably be at Thorpe at much the same time if not a bit earlier
As I write I'm in Cardiff, which is where Seren Nos invades the River Taff.
I looked, but there was no PSOF swim cap,
I have one already Scmunks SS will be wearing my pirate cap
Honk you aren't meant to drink it but I do hope you feel better soon.
See you there maybe in the blue

In the Blue - Did you get to Thorpe? Looked out for you but didnt see any pirates! Water wasn't too bad. Damn cold when you got out though
Anyone going to boundary water park tonight?
Me and Horse are going to Pennington Flash tonight.
First swim this season at Datchet Was actually ok although got a bit chilly towards end. I'd forgotten how much I love swimming!
MathsChick and I will be rocking along to SixHills on saturday morning if anyone is in Leicestershire and wants to freeze their tootsies
First OW swim this season, 12 degrees got a brain freeze so only did 2 laps of 400 mts.
