blimey just found this thread, and I'm another of the been there, done that brigade. Did it in July '83 with school in just under 14 hours, waking towards the coast....
A friend of mine who is an astrologer often says to me "There's no such thing as a coincidence." Well, I came on here looking for a challenging race as I am unable to to my favourite Swaledale Marathon this year because of work. Was going to post a message asking for recommendations and I saw this. Just the job, a real tough challenge. Count me in. I can't wait. any more takers? And I also sometimes train on the N York Moors brilliant area for running. OOOH I've gone all tingly.
How about going for the team prize by entering two teams of six. Rules state that there must be five men and one woman or five women and one man. Fastest four to count for points. How about putting two teams together a Men's team (with a token girly) and girlies team (with a token gadgy).
Come on, who's up for it? All we need is six of each sex and we're laughing. Go on, go on, go on, go on, you know you want to.
PS All I want now is for Hartlepool to beat Sunnderland today in FA Cup
You wont be slower than me Hippo, I cant even do 42 miles at the moment, so I'll have to build up distance before I can even think about speed ... and I'm going to walk it
me and zilla aren't fast (well he's faster than me at the moment but i'll catch him one day). and i'm on a never ending diet.
i certainly don't want to get competitive about this one. i think it will be tough enough just to get to the other end. zilla and i were planning on doing a run walk thingy and seeing how long we could keep it up. i won't be changing that plan regardless of teams or not.
but when they talk about teams for this its not like teams for trailwalker - as in you don't have to run it together. you just complete it as you wish and the fastest 4(?) of your 6 team members count towards your team score. so its more like me competing for North Herts Road Runners. I run for them every time I race locally but haven't yet managed to be fast enough to score points for the team!

go on sunderland
(otherwise good plan - also i think team rules are just "6 runners at least one of each sex" so we could probably be a bit more flexible?)
Hmmmmm teams huh, done this before wiv Zilla et al (aka the furry ones) and we walked off wiv the prize
Team members report for muster asap. Still very excited.
M Sunderland no chance today. Couldn't get a bloody ticket ot I'd have been there to see Pools win
Then again 42 miles is a long way
i'm a man city girl myself. we moved from the north east to manchester when i was little.
count me and zilla in if you're doing teams (he's quicker than me but neither of us are exactly experts over long distances!)

but, if one wants to do well, then one would want to have fast peeps in the team, no>?
I just want to finish, it'll be something of an acheivement for me to complete an ultra, 'specially as I havent even done a marathon
