If anyone needs any advice then give me a shout,I'm 3 miles of the old bike course and live in Bolton, not doing it in 2014, Outlaw half and lots more training to go again in 2015 with Lanza after that I think, good luck to all that have entered, timmyG, we will get out on the bike course together
Hi all. I'm in. First Ironman for me. I live fairly local just outside the Ribble Valley so plenty of hills there for me to train on . I usually try and avoid them but guess I'll have to learn to love them!
Would be good to arrange a Pirate recipe ride of the bike one weekend in the new year to get an idea of the terrain. I'd pop up for a weekend if some of the locals are willing guides When route confirmed.
Not even written my race report for ironman UK2013 and Ive entered 2014!!.
This year was my first ironman so I know where I made my mistakes along the way in training. Going to improve on a few things for next year. Managed 13hrs 50min this year so want to take at least an hour of that, which even at this stage I know is possible.
Currently suffering from lack of motiovation for any kind of training so have entered a half marathon in late September and will try and kick start something off. Still in a kind of recovery mode.
You can still guarantee a place in IRONMAN UK 2014 via our charity partners, please see the Charity pages or via our Official Travel partner, Nirvana Europe.
Ok for all you 1st timers and for those who raced it this year, the link below gives you a very rough idea of what its all about. Have not spotted myself yet. if you wish skip to 53mins and if you dont have any emotion showing you shouldnt be doing it!.
Cheers for that Bones! Not had a look for myself in the race yet but knew I should be on it in the crowd cheering the last guy in. At 53:27 next to the Ironman Flag in green coat with my back to the camera.
hey all....blimey this thread filled up as quick as IMUK did.
congrats to all those in.
really interested to see what the course will be like and will be happy to take people on recce rides during the spring....speculation about the course is rife...with hunters and parbold hill both being mentioned.
my guess is still they will leave it the same...till eccleston and then take it through croston instead...down through rufford and burscough and indeed up parbold hill....which contrary to TIMMYG's comments is not the reason i chose sweden (though it is a lot flatter)
few locals on here now and as i'm gonna be more involved in IM racing this year i'll be happy to answer any questions and will be here often to offer local advice (cause i'm no good at giving racing advice)
i have the fink plan in XL if anybody wants it just send me a PM with your email.
good luck to all at bolton...i think the quick sell out not only shows its a great event now but also (and hopefully) its here to stay!!
Did this race back in 2012 and in a sick way loved every minute of it. Was all set on entering the outlaw until i took the lads up to ironkids. Then seeing the red carpet brought the emotions back from 12 month earlier. So as soon as enteries opened on friday i threw my hat in the ring and will be back looking to improve on my last time.

Something strange is happening, was 2013 the first year IMUK filled up?
Now its selling out in 2.5 days? I wouldn't be surprised if they've not released all the places yet and are trying to build some pent up demand for further places and will release another block, or drip another 50 as above followed but further chunks every now and then?
But I could be wrong, hope so for those hoping to get in.

Do they do familiarisation days for Bolton or is that only Wimbleball?

Tycholien - they do, but a much cheaper option is to go out on the course will one of the vets here that live locally to Bolton.
The interest now is that it's a new two loop course for 2014 - I wonder when those details will be released?
Chris - I'll take you up on that, but I may have to get Lanza out the way first
Yes I'm more happy to show first timers around especially the run as I only live a mile from the loops.
I hope they announce the new bike loops sooner rather than later Tim.

50 places to the general public, on a first come, first served basis, at 12 noon on Sunday 1st September. It's worth a shot WildWill
A whole 50 places -wow
Anyone know how many places have been sold to charity?

Can't wait bring on the pain!
Can I take the above list as pirate finishing order ! 3rd be my highest ever race place
Come next July will have plummeted to last
no you cant
Not much chance of me being first either
If you turn the list upside down and drop me a place that will be my probable finishing position
Bugger - that means I'll have to train more no so not bottom of the list.
mind you with 3 years training I'll probably still prop up the bottom of the list
Still I get the same medal, t-shirt & tattoo even if finish 8 hours after the winners.
