Not sure what I think, and it doesn't really matter - I'm retired and was always shit anyway. I don't see an issue really with folk who dead speedy getting together to share ideas and training but Im sure that happens to an extent anyway?
I think there have been some generalisations, which is inevitable when you have such a disparate group who all have different investments in the pirates, and different ideas about what it means. I don't agree that only folk who are good want to improve, I was coached for a couple of years, for me, because I wanted to be, but that was my choice, as a challenge for me.
I'm surprised by all the flouncing. I've never read Holgs' book cos I've never seen it in my local library. I might have made more effort if the pirates in it were the ones I knew from my time, but they weren't, so I didn't. I don't care whether he made money from the pirate association - no one was forced to buy his book.
Anyway, what I want to know is - what's the state of play now Mr F?
To threadjack my own thread as I don't want to start another one and this one will have every lurker there is reading it...
What motivates you? following on from flouncegate it would appear that Holgs has a bit of a following and through publishing a book / blog he's helped get people into triathlon - No disrepect because it's just the way I am - I've no interest in reading a story of a fat lazy person getting round an Ironman, I've lived that myself, the huggy sob stories don't do it for me - When I see the CAF guys or people over 60 doing sub 10 - then I'm inpsired that's true achievement in my eyes.
Ditchy - ahh, thanks, love; took me all of 3 minutes. Was aiming for summary really, but if you want to call it a flounce, I dont care enough to argue. I still have zero interest in a thread.
Slightly irked that I agree with Collier (where's TR, I can usually count on an opposing opinion there?) but it remains a cast iron fact that I dont give a fck how much money anyone did, or didnt make from a book I haven't read, it was a conceptual point arising from the apoplectic threats of legal action, and no-one has yet changed my mind.
Oh, Zilla is here... Whilst I've (perhaps) got your attention.... I've always been in awe of your IM finishing photo (avatar) since seeing it on the wall of your toilet at home. I tried my best to replicate it (the finish that is, not your toilet!) this year.
Now I've been reminded of your photo from your avatar I now realise it was dark when you finished and daylight (just) when I did.
Funkin-baby I think you'll find i had them dim the sunset so that I could get a better contrast on thepicture, also to experience that level of "I can stop now bliss" you have to start a sprint finish thinking you have 150m to go and then realise its actually about 350m.... and then run the whole damn thing as fast as you can anyway
Well put. Funkin. i am not now, nor ever intending to go sub 10, but when the boys are a bit older and don't want me arounds so much etc etc I will be back and I may even do an Ironman, and I will be aiming for sub 13. Which would involve running some, if not all of the marathon.
Punch I am well - running well on 2-4 runs a week, working too hard, not cycling or swimming so somewhere circa 2004 i guess in terms of speed. Young family means I am point 8 on the Fegan list of reasons not to do Ironman/Tri let alone go for a decent time - How're you?

Goodness gracious me in a bucket.
What a lot of folded arms and titty lips and hysterical, blinkered point-missing.

Who's Ellen? Did she use the PSOF logo?
Ah well so to summarise, someone wrote a book, it all got a bit huffy, the end.
What, he wrote two books? The monster...
(this will possibly end in the worlds biggest car chase this side of the Blues Brothers)
*mourns Mini HaHa*

May I suggest you join the sub-10 thread.
