Did a 6 mile run last night, was feeling a bit sorry for myself in the last mile or so as I was counting my aches and pains when Santa went past on a motorbike and had a sidecar with a reindeers head on it and lots of twinkly lights, it was like a mirage coming at me through the foggy mist
Half hour sprints on the treadmill this morning were a killer, bike tonight and that will do me for the day. Roll on tue whre the local pool opens back up, lets see if i can still swim
1 mile in 46 mins, including a 300m stretch with no breather ( which is unheard of for me). . I know its not about time at the mo' but that gives me the confidence that I might not get booted out at T1.
Obviously I dont know why you're feeling so tired after 300m, but as a suggestion, are you breathing out underwater? Might you be holding your breath? - that can make you feel very out-of-breath pretty quickly. The whole time your face is in the water you should be breathing out, but it shouldnt be forced - you dont have to expel the air like you're playing a wind instrument. This might help:
Checking out the weather forecast this week I swapped my day off from Wednesdy to today to make the most of better weather and get a longish (for me) ride in.
set off with an early crymbo present (hi viz Endura waterproof jacket) into the bright windless day @ 9.30am.
25 miles in I've taken a wrong turn, in unknown territory, pretty high up being blown about and pummeled by rain
5 miles later the joy of recognising the area blew away the misery of the driving rain. I headed home. i rode 7 miles without changing gear - not because it was a flat run but because I couldn't feel my fingers to change gear. I found a lay-by with a hot food van, pulled in and ordered a cuppa tea.
Took my gloves off with my teeth and asked the lady making my tea to get my pennies out of my purse and ring my husband to come pick me up
Esio, things just started to click for me a couple of months back and I went from being quite breathless and 'gaspy', to being much more relaxed and feeling like I could go for hours.
However, I then didn't swim for several weeks, and when I went to the pool last week, I found myself really struggling again.
Moral of the story......now that you've found 'it' don't rest on your laurels and make sure you keep up the swim training!
Fun finish to the year at Swimfit, team Conga, backwards back crawl and relays were very amusing and no one drowned. I deserved that Camembert & cranberry toastie and wine when I got home worked up an appetite. —
Rest day today feeling tired and run down and generally yucky luckily last day at work for 2 and 1/2 weeks so planning on some real training load over that period
Got some decent miles done on the bike with SA earlier this week, and have managed a couple of tough, boggy runs the last couple of evenings. Planning an hour on the turbo this evening with my friend Sufferfest, long run on Saturday and, if the weather holds out, will try and get a few hours out on the bike again.
Once again, I'm pushing swimming out into 'next week'....
45 min swim this morning.... struggled a little with tiredness and with an increasingly sore leg.... hamstrings tighter than a tight thing!!!
3 weeks of Finking seems to be catching up with me... may need to take a day or two out of the plan to avoid a niggle becoming an injury.... will see how the 1hr run goes this evening.
lets be honest.... its all prep for an Ironman on my 100th birthday

I've signed up for IM Wales next year as my first, so any advice would be greatly appreciated...
Also signed up for the Thames Trot 50 mile ultra in Feb, again my first time at an ultra, so manly running in terms of training At the moment.
I'm sure I'll be back asking for lots help and advice!

How long did it take you MC?
1hr 10mins, so not exactly a world record time... but i'm happy with it
Good going MC - well done you!

It all seemed to come together in the pool today.

Absolutely made up!!!!
Well done Esio-trot you will be fine man
Esio what stops you at 300m? short of breath or tired in general
If its the first then slow everything down and if its the latter then shorten the session until you have built the stamina
Plenty of time for improvements in both
Well done Esio.

If not, as Meldy says, slow everything down, relax and your pacing will improve.
M...eldy have you done ironman before?
I have indeed ..
1 hour on the tt bike this morning, making hay while the sun shines
In preparation for starting training next week I weighed myself, I'm 10kg heavier than I was at IMCH, oh deer
An hour on the Turbo this afternoon. Naproxen kicking in and another session with the Physio tomorrow.

Meldy / flyaway I put it purely down to lack of experience and up until today struggling with my breathing technique.
I'm certainly not trying to race but have still been short of breath.
Today everything just clicked and felt like I could go all day, heres hoping it wasn't a one off.

a 30 minute steady run this morning. Running's just really 'meh' at the moment.
1hr run gone well.... feel much better.... suspect it's too many early starts that made the swimming tough!!!
back on plan...
sore legs in the swim MC ??
sore legs constantly... not just in the swim!
Actually, more generally weary than sore.... was just knackered.
Anyway.... feel better this evening... still weary, but good coffee solves all!
sure does and Guinness is a close second!
sounds like you need a rest already ... starting off nice n easy?
