I ran a 12/27 on a compact last time on a road bike, this year it'll be a 12/28 on a 'professional' compact as they call them and the road bike. Just wondering how deep the wheels should be
They'll be 80/100mm....as that's all i've got!
On that subject.... having to revert back to road bike for tomorrow's oly.... too windy for deep rims!
lets be honest.... its all prep for an Ironman on my 100th birthday
TT bike for me with a deep section rear wheel (90 i think) and a tame 30 on the front so I can go round corners at speed - got me round Lanza on a windy day so how hard can it be?
oh Pingu - of course the bike is white - they are faster after all
the fast swimmers will hit the jelly fish and mush them to slime so I'll be fine following behind, (I hope)
think I am going for a negative split (run longer than the bike :-O )
My fucking Planet X let me down again today at Blaenavon tri ... Same problem as Lanza shitty left shifter wouldn't go into the big gear. Have just had the right shifter replaced, that was expensive, so do I keep on chucking money at this bike or bring the Giant to France??
I know ! I was talking to the Mousey one about that the other day, I think it was a little geographical v choice of day .... I dont think I had one long bike where I didnt come in soaked and cold !! Strip turbo to warm up
I think you had it worse than me last year, Meldy. I remember the cold more than the wet. Maybe I've just turned into a wuss this year.
Pingu - (iPad wants to call you pings!) I think I agree with Melds. It's something very strange indeed and it would be good if they would have a look at it.
Pingu what groupset is it? its not the bikes fault its the groupsets fault that said if its under guarantee PX shoud sort you, i have used Shimano for years with no problems apart from when i brought a new Giant TCR a few years back and the Ultegra shifters packed up after a year and a bit sometimes you just get a dodgy bit of kit
I have had lots of bike mechanics look at it. Sometimes the shifter works, sometimes it doesn't. Fiddling with the cables fixes it for a bit. Was particularly annoying today though because on a long section there was a massive tailwind and I was doing 24 just spinning out. Could have gone so much faster with the big cog!
So its front gear will not always shift up into the big ring, you adjust the cables and it works then after a while it wont shift up again? Does the shifter move into top but the cahain just wont go onto the big ring?
Yes, left shifter doesn't move to the big ring, it just clicks when you try to move up. The thingy that moves it over is trying to do something, it just doesn't quite make it.
However this is not just a left shifter problem, the right likes to join in too. The right one has literally, just been replaced, got it back earlier this week. The shifter cost £125 and then there was fitting on top, can't quite bring myself to spend the same again
Hmmmmm SRAM not a fan my training buddy Purely Cornish has SRAM Red and its been a pig to set up we have just about got there, the trouble is if you try to set it up the way you would shimano it doesnt work i used the link below its still not as fit and firget as shimano though
Training up on Lanza but that isn't too difficult really, especially with running where I did more in one weekend than the whole build up last year, usual aims, finish, then sub cut off, then sub course pb (14.08), finally like to go under 13
I'm still coming horribly scared. Seemed like such a good idea standing on the feed station at outlaw. This is my first ironman so I'm looking for a PB!
I'm still in never done IM before so can't comment on past. My aim is just to cross the finish line and still have a pulse. Bala is my next big test so looking forward.
jan and feb I was really looking forward to this and thought this would be my first ironman finish ......I got cocky and then became lazy ! Done next to nothing training since then , now trying to convince myself that 6 weeks proper training I'll be able to do it BUT being realistic in the same as m.o.use , do the swim and see what time is left

I would speak to PX ... they do have quite a good customer service, time to test it ?
This time last year I think we were making lists and packing and fafing
Good idea, apologies for rant!
Last year we'd had that horrible winter to train in!

Is it only me who studies the Countryfile forecast to plan the coming weeks training
Nope i do to Melds

I'll be fine at France if it's all up hill.
Is it shimano Pingu?
SRAM, or shitty SRAM as I like to call them...
