Thanks for this, frenchy.
Are the Mar and Sep Black Mountains routes the same? Sep route not up on website yet.
Gutted asw these are good races close to home. #
I only have 2 races booked before June this year and the two of them clash with the first 2 above....
Hi Guys,
Round 3 will be a different route, still working on the finer details, getting local farmers on-side etc. but should be confirmed soon.
seren nos, see you for 3 & 4 then
Cheers....
Anyone who's thinking of doing these races stop thinking about it and book them. They really are some of the best routes in the area, absolutely superb
Had booked 1 and 2 (ultra) back in November but now find I can't do both due to diary clashes, one social, one work related. Hoping to transfer to race 3 instead.
I have emailed about this today, frenchy.
Just been trawling the internet looking for races this year, only completed a 50km 'baby' ultra before, but the Brecon Beacons 42mile ultra in this series in May looks awesome....or maybe i should play it safe and go for the marathon distance!
go for the ultra dank art... you lnow you want to
how much navigation is required, as i have no experience of this whatsoever, do like the landscape though and the isolation of it looks awesome, just watched a youtube clip of the 46 mile ultra, although it says 40 or 42 miles ish on the website.... so the Ultra is between 40 and 46 miles!?

Closer to 42 if it's the same course as 2012/2013
The MCN events are generally well marked, I've gone astray a couple of times on them but normally when blindly following other people. The Brecons events are easier IMHO as you're normally heading for the highest points, Corn Du, Pen y Fan, Cribyn etc and the tracks are obvious. An added bonus of the summer one is you should finish in daylight, the winter one gets a bit tricky at the end in the dark..
I can't recommend them highly enough, really well run events by great people - and very good value - do the ultra, you'll regret it if you don't
The vid is of the likeys' one.

Paul do you have a link into above race ?
http://www.mightcontainnuts.com/events/index_one.html
doing the 42 mile ultra in May
First time beyond 26.2 so chose an easy one to start...
Not exactly the easiest ultra to start with, Dustin. Don't go out on this one at marathon pace!
I'm not finding all the links work to the pdfs of the routes, etc, frenchy.
T Rex - I think you're joking with me. I heard the Brecons were flatter than Holland.
You'd have to be some kind of idiot to make that your first ultra if they were remotely hilly.
oh wait...
Dustin - once you've done the Bryn Teg ridge of Cribyn (if your route goes up there) you will never, ever comment about any 'hill' on a road marathon again ...
Yep, it goes up there T Rex I remember the first time I did it - you see it looming from miles away, as it gets closer it's like....
"Jesus - I'm glad we're not going up there"
"I hope we're not going up there"
"F***, that looks like runners going up there"
"WE ARE GOING UP THERE"
Thanks Paul.
Entered the Ultra, Round 2! gulp!
Bryn Teg Ridge.
On a sunny day - doesn't look much easier ...
Last time up that bugger I felt faint an sick, had to lay down to recover , hot day tho
wow, that looks epic! Can anyone suggest some training to do for this event, i am doing my second marathon March 14th, and then will use APril and most of May to train specifically for this event, base fitness will be good, so is it specific strength and hill training I should be doing, obviously off road too, long runs won't be more than 20 miles will they, should i focus on time rather than distance on my long sunday runs?
Also, shows wise, i have some Inov8 X Talon 212's will these be ok for this?
thanks
The Inov8's will be fine;
As for training, I think what will cause you problems is pacing. If you are not used to hills then not getting carried away on the hills could be a problem. I am guessing that there are no comparable hills local to you? Do not be afraid to walk up the hills, or at least take them very easy.
Stick to your normal training routine but get a few long off road runs in on as hilly terrain as you can get to. I limit my pace up hill using my pulse, this pulse limit has been found by trial and error over many years. But do the race, take it easy and if at the end you feel that you could have tried a bit harder you have nailed it!
Thanks SideBurn, I did a 50km last year, Trail ultra, and it was great, run walk, and walking hills, running the down hills of course, lots of food on route and chatting to others, loved it!
When you said, 'second marathon' I was thinking inexperience!
You could give me some tips!!!
