Just wondered whether I could virtually run the distance from home to Durban over the next 16 months, and make Comrades the last 50 miles, but it's 6000 miles so maybe not. Might be able to get as far as Chad if I don't get injured.
There are several variations of this one kicking around if you fancy it Stan. Not all as crazy in daily mileage, some do it by bike until the big day too. Me, I fancy a train
Seeing as you mentioned Chad I now have a new marathon list to contemplate, although I'm not sure I would attempt it, some dodgy countries in that list!
McHilly. Top Right on banner, to the left of your photo / right of the mail button, click on that image (looks like a globe), in there you can de/select etc.
lowrez, I'd love to visit the wine country, but I agree, a train or even a hire car would be a much better way to do it. Makes Carla's 9th place finish even more impressive, though the woman in 10th may have been disappointed to discover she'd been beaten by someone who'd just run all the way from Cape Town.
Anyone remember what we need to do to get an email notification when someone posts on here?
Maybe just selecting this page as a bookmarked page??? It is the star to the right of the 'Comrades 2022' heading. Greyed out if not bookmarked; yellow if bookmarked. Sorry I am just making assumption here and apologise if it is not correct
New shoes as an incentive to get out there, trying NB wide fitting, experimented previously with longer up to the point of being too big, got a superb blister right around the base of the heel.
Hopefully get the Centurion 100s Grand Slam sorted this year and settle down to do Comrades next year. (And perhaps Lakeland 100 if I can get a place - must keep an eye on that. And no doubt a few more as well.)
OK, so I've entered Virtual London (VVLM?) this morning. No problem registering so it looks like most of those who lost out in the ballot haven't taken up their preferential virtual places after all.
Good to see the '22 thread is up & running. Where has all that time gone? It's something I'll definitely be considering but will have to see how things work out in the 2nd half of this year. In Ireland at least I'm not seeing any possibility of running events 'til Winter at this stage. Still doing a bit of running to keep myself ticking over but nowhere near the distance needed to take on a marathon not to mind Comrade
Trying to decide what to do with some mince I had, came across a recipe for Bobotie... a traditional S.African dish I hadn’t heard of, having now made and eaten it, I can highly recommend it! Although I hadn’t heard of this specific dish, the taste and smells reminded me of other curry dishes I’d had in S.Africa.... made me appreciate that whilst Comrades is a run there are many other things eg the people you meet and experiencing local culture that make it so special, looking forward to returning in 2022 !

Have entered Yorkshire again as qualifier, in vague hope that in-person event could maybe possibly with a lot of luck actually happen in mid October.
My weight has ballooned in lockdown 3- it's going to be a long road to P'berg
