I've run the past two years but the loss of the horse jumps, hills and wading puddle at the end left me feeling a bit short changed last time (especially with the last 2-3 miles on flattish sand).
Yeah the T-shirts are good but for the price you pay I guess thats a minimum requirement.
That said if you haven't run this before I'd recommend giving it a go. I may run but it does clash with the Tadley Christmas XC mudfest, which is usually a good race.....
Didn't read from the start of the thread, so sorry if someone's already mentioned this, but the over-riding, lasting impression of this run is not the mud or the puddles.
IT'S COLD !
Have run this as a company event for the past two years, and it is GREAT FUN. Seem to remember it being a whole lot grimmer in 2003 than it was earlier this year. Agree with Dustin - the horse jumps and the wading pond made the whole event the first time around. Definitely in for this December, tho'.
Sleigh bells ring, Are you listening, Through the lanes, Snow is glistening, Wade through the pond, Where they filmed James Bond, Running in the Nike Grim 8 Run.
Imelda is working hard at convincing me to do this. I only start my run/walk programme this week. She points out that it's always good to have a goal to aim for which I am inclined to agree with. Am I being foolhardy? :-(
Being ex-navy I remember being forced to do this once a week every week with 'nasty' people hurling abuse at me. Am I likely to have flashbacks to a previous life? ha ha ha
Hiya, just entered and was wondering about spectators, etc. How user-friendly are parts of the course for spectators, well-wishers, people laughing and pointing at you, etc.
From what I remember, the course is pretty open to members of the public so theoretically, they should be able to stand and cheer and laugh almost anywhere, but the majority tend to congregate in the start finish area. You run through this about mid-way through the event as well as the course forms a figure of 8 (VERY loosely speaking). It's also where the car park is, along with the tea/coffee stop and the inevitable burger trailer.
There isn't a lot of shelter on offer, however, so if the weather's a bit suspect, they are going to want umbrellas at the very least (gazebo? marquee? tent?!!!)
Fantastic! Like the new date, nearly caught me out though. Missed the lake at the end of the race last year, far too civilised for my liking. Come on you organisers, make us suffer for our sport, you know we love it!!

I need convincing that this is a good way to spend £17 :-))
Actually, maybe not, I guess it isn't necessarily good value for money but I want to finally meet you :-)
I enjoyed it this year and am doing it again so I think it's an excellent way to spend £17. I mean, that's hardly going to buy any shoes, is it?
Just going to enter.
Will enter this week :-)

But I guess seeing as I have already said I would do Tough Guy.....this surely can be as bad as that!!!!!
Am I likely to break a nail??
Are we likely to nominate a pub for din dins afters??
(you probably won't break any nails, but you may not be able to feel your feet for a while afterwards!)
May be worth sorcing a pub out of the locality a bit if people are up for a spot of lunch?? there are some nice places out of the garrison??
I see the little leopard hasn't put her name down for this one, must go and give her a prod...
