its pretty chilly in biggin hill which isn't a million miles from tooting. and there is a nasty cold wind. i am hoping to pop down later tonight to watch/cheer and it just occured to me that i don't know where it is. i was assuming it was in tooting at the athletics track near tooting lido?
hi all back home, did my 60 miles and decided to head off for home to get out of london early, what a job trying to find our hotel ,NEVER AGAIN, was like a maze, when we found it we headed straight for the pub to calm my nerves, all the roads look the same, pub, church, big house, street after street. my heart goes out to anyone living in the big smoke. anyhow after my initial warm up of 30 miles i took up the pace and put the fear of god into the lead runners as i was putting in my 1:50 laps. was always aiming for 60 ( think i did 58miles) as a last training run before my easy weeks before heading off to the himalayas in 2 weeks time and didn't want to risk any silly injuries, felt strong at the end and was chatting to ian trying to keep his spirits up, he started off really well but had problems with his feet so was reduced to walking when i left him, even so he was well in the 70 miles at 13 hours, so could still hit the 100 if he carried on, timmy as ever was churning out the miles and after a brief rest had hit the track again, he had reduced his estimate mileage even after setting off steadier than he normally does but still is confident of hitting 100, 2 guys were neck and neck for the leader churning out 6mph as i left for 13 hours, should be a cracking finish and mileage if anyone in the area, great organisation and a very friendly bunch of guys, going for a few hours kip now then may do a few miles this evening to stretch the old legs, keep on chugging friends!!
Well done Paul, have been asleep after my morning bike- up Holme Moss, didn't feel in great form. but still did similar mileage to your running miles! How are Tim and Ian getting on, come on Shelley you're the one with the insider information.
Tim phoned about ten minutes after the finish to say he'd done about 90 miles. He said a lot of them had had a bad time for various reasons. He is on the coach on his way home now, but will no doubt give a blow by blow account when he gets back.
Just checking in to see how you went.Sounds like you were all going really well into the 2nd half, unbelievable efforts all around, great stuff. Can't imagine that nippy breeze we've had in the SE was much fun.Hope everything went well to the end.

Paul intended to run until 1 am then head on home. Anything can happen though in the wierd world of 24 hour track racing.
will be interesting to hear the latest... but i'll be out racing myself until they finish.
is Paul ok, why is he finishing early

Yes, I think the cold wind was the main problem and otherwise the conditions were good, ie dry!
